Great Device, but MUST get the first command correct!
I have been very excited to have the capability to operate something remotely with this GSM switch. I returned one of these because I couldn’t get it to work. I tried SIM cards from three different companies. Finally, I figured it out, and now I am very pleased. SIM Cards from UltraMobile (formerly T-Mobile PayGo), U.S. Mobile, and Speedtalk Alarm SIM each work fine. To benefit from my learning and to get to an operating switch more quickly consider doing the following.Essential first command where “1234,” is the default password: 1234#RESET#Then, I rebooted device by holding down reset button on back of circuit board next to SIM card for six seconds while power is reapplied. Once power is on and LED on back of circuit board lights, release the button. Then all other commands listed in the instructions worked fine. I needed to use “001” in front of phone number area code for each U.S. based SIM Card phone number. Now unit works as-advertised. It took me two weeks of scouring the Web to get the reset command and get going. Otherwise, 5-stars.

This Rascal Works!
This little rascal works! The instructions are pretty tricky to follow, seemingly translated directly from Chinese to English, but they're only a couple pages long, so it won't kill you to read through them slowly. Device is even smaller than the photo suggestss. Its about the size of a deck of cards. It does a "Momentary" relay closing for a duration which is adjustable up to 9.5 seconds. (I do wish it could be set for longer to hold the gate open a few seconds longer, but you can put an $8.00 12v Fuji ST3PF Off-Delay Relay inline to give you all the adjustable delay you need), OR it can be set to "Toggle" its relay, locking its contacts closed until you trigger the unit a second time to open the contacts. It CAN be set to trigger on ANY call from ANY number, OR it can be set to be selective among pre-programmed telephone numbers. You WILL have to provide your own 12v DC POWER SUPPLY. You DO have to buy a SIM card for this device to work. The $4.88 SpeedTalk Alarm Sim Card that's advertised below this product works perfectly and cheaply. It will trigger its relay without actually answering the voice calls placed to it, so your cheapo SIM card plan won't incur any per-minute charges. You can also send the unit Text Commands to open and close, but I personally have no use for that feature. All the parameters for the device are set through the App on your smart phone, and they're sent in the form of Text messages to the device. The Device will return confirmation texts to your cell phone each time. Brilliant little doodad here, and what a bargain of a price for what it does! You'd probably pay $1500 to a gate company or garage door company to do for you what this device can do for $25. Very happy customer here.

Great for turning on heater in hangar
Using it to turn on a heater in airplane hangar. Turns on and off immediately on phone call, and sends a confirming message within a few seconds that I have programmed to tell me that the heater has been turned on, or off. I was also able to program it so it will only react to phone numbers I have pre-authorized. I had to connect it to a relay that will switch the current required for the heater.

Actually A Great Little Device...Except....
This is a bit of a review and hopefully a bit of tech help. First, I suggest buying the SIM card suggested in the listing. It worked first time in my area and the others I tried did not. I have read most of the reviews here and asked a few questions about the unit and not much has been helpful. Most of the responses have been to "read the instructions" and then, upon failure after failure, 'send the commands the *right* way'. Well, I did, and I did, and I'm not a technical idiot. But the unit still was not operational. First, the SIM card I had from another company would not work, so I activated and used the suggested card. When you get the unit, in the box is a card with QR codes. Don't bother with the instructions QR code and don’t bother with using the product tech “support” (prompt and responsive but useless; probably a language barrier thing). Although not confirmed, I don't think the PDF instructions they offer even apply to the current firmware shipped with the unit—note on bottom of unit says “use latest instructions”--again, which are of no help. Scan and download the suggested app; the following notes apply to that app on my iPhone as in the photo and they offer an Android version, apparently. Install the SIM card, reset, boot up, and watch for the slow blinking LED to indicate it is connected and working. I confirmed operation by launching the app and using the "Signal Enquiry" and the "Relay Close Time" tiles both of which returned a proper SMS response to my phone. I set relay time for 0.5 seconds as this is for a garage door; confirmed with a response text. Now adding Authorized numbers was confusing and frustrating. Following the PDF instructions and texting the unit again got me nowhere (unless you need hookup instructions for the relay). Using the tile in the app “Authorized Call In” also did not work. Finally, I used the tile “Alarm Numbers” to add the accepted phone numbers…..and....it worked. You can confirm with the "Authorized Call In" tile and by calling its number and observing the Relay LED. More: it is working reliably. Adding the SIM phone number to the address book and then telling Siri to call 'Garage Door’ both my wife (from her watch) and I can trigger the door to open or close (of course, once the appropriate relay and switch connections were completed). Also note that the instructions suggest you to add +0xx prefix to the phone number. When adding numbers via the Alarm Number tile, this was not necessary--just the ten digit phone number with no dashes worked for me. I hope all this helps someone! Overall, I'm very happy. It was a bit of a trial to get there, however. Five stars are out of the question due to the poor documentation and support. Four stars because it worked!

A must buy if you need a remote switch
This switch works great and can be programmed for optimized use and security. Can work on cell calls and / or text (uses text for programming). Can be programmed to reply with a text to tell you it's status when turned on or off. Can also be programmed for various duration's depending on what you are using it for. Can be programmed so it will only respond to your calls or any caller you allow. Works with a pass code to prevent hacking or unauthorized calls or texts.

Canadian Users Read This
For Canadian users of this relay unit, in hopes of saving someone hours of futzing, here are the difficulties you will likely face. I am in Ontario, other provinces may vary.First off this is a 2G device so it WILL currently work (as of April 2018) using a Rogers Network SIM card but NOT on Bell.Second, for an unknown reason, it will not respond to texts sent from a Bell Network phone to the device. You MUST use a Rogers phone to configure it. Formatting was not an issue, everything was done the same from both phones. Simply no responses from the Bell phone - several different phones from both networks were tried, only the Rogers numbers worked.Otherwise it is well made and appears to work well once configured.
