So this is another great addition to the global tour of Carcassonne, and meshes some game dynamics from "hunter gatherer" and regular Carcassonne.jungles, villages and tributaries score you points much like fields, castles and roads did respectively, but the amazon river itself adds some new levels of chance. the immediate scoring of "river tiles" means that points can come out of nowhere for your opponent or for you when drawing one of these tiles. It adds a rather more race like feel to part of the game as you try to keep your boat in first place to get these points.absolutely wonderful game though, great art, and just wonderful to play. hope this review helped.

Although definitely very similar to classic Carcassonne, the new River Mechanic is quite different, not easily mastered , and unfortunately, not clearly presented in the rules. Well I mean it is explained, but you have to try it a few times to get comfortable with this powerful new method of scoring additional points. I am delight to see that Z-Man Games is maintaining the same excellent quality in the production of the Carcassonne series that was prevalent when Rio Grande Games had the USA publishing rights for it.

My family and I are huge fans of Carcassonne and have been gradually buying all the different variations. This one is a lot of fun with some unique mechanics like moving boats down the river. However, I do think this one is best played with more players (3 is okay, 4 is better) where as some of the others are a little more friendly to 2 player games.

If you like the original game you will like this game but we were also left wanting more. More of a challenge or more to the game. It's the same thing just with a building structure centered around the Amazon river. Maybe they will make an expansion to make it better.

Carcassonne: Amazon is the best version of the many Carcassonne there is, IMO. It has all the tile laying fun and strategy of the basic game, but adds a cool racing mechanic! It's great!

I feel like this is definitely different than the others, which is nice, but it also means not to expect the exact same play. The board is VERY busy and since you have to build the river, it means this is HUGE and very LONG. So be aware that this will take a LOT of table space.

We couldn't fumble our way through this game either of the two times that we attempted it. The cards have too many things going on, and the rules don't make it clear what the goal of the game is. There are too many special cards that kick in too many different events or actions or scoring, and the explanation for them is scattered too broadly throughout the rule booklet. If we wanted to understand this game well enough to play it, we would have to spend a very long time memorizing the rules in advance, because they can't be followed during the initial gameplay in a way that guides you through the game and you cannot look them up as you go.

This is a great stand-alone Carcassone game, fairly easy to learn and a fun variation to the original game. Big hit with the family at Christmas!

If you are into tiles placement games, this one is definitely the one you should dive into... This game is super awesome. Highly recommended for 2-4 players.

Das Spiel ist wirklich lustig. Es ist KEINE Ergänzung, sondern ein eigenständiges Spiel. Das wurde beim Kauf von mir übersehen, es macht aber trotzdem sehr viel Spaß!! Toll zum Verschenken und selbst bespielen. Kaufempfehlung!

We've played this a few times since giving as a xmas present and whilst its enjoyable there are better Carcassonne games (eg South Seas). For some reason every time we've played one player has stormed ahead of the other.

Not a bad game - basically the normal Carcassone, but you have to have a huge table to fully appreciate the game, as Amazon (the river) is the longest one in the world and it is the whole point to build it from the cards. Our 6 seater kitchen table wasn't long enough though.
