It was the third time I used it and everything was fine. There was the third time when normal I put the lavas to heat 3 minutes in the microwave and when I took it out they exploded on my leg causing severe burns.

My kids, although in high school now, still love a packed lunch. I have used these Brando of lunch boxes for a few years now. I love that it really keep food hot. As an example, I will pack them hot lunch at around 7:30am, and when they get back home at 3:30/4pm, if there are any leftovers, they are still warm. If you want the opportunity to have a hot lunch. This is perfect. I got tired of only packing cold lunches for my kids of myself. Specially during those cold months when you crave warmer foods.Examples of foods I’ve packed: spaghetti and shrimp, fried chicken, rice, beans and stake, wings, Chinese food etc…

I bought this for my son's grilled cheese lunches. I had to increase the time from the recommended 2 minutes (1000 watt oven -- and we are heating one pack at a time for 2.5 minutes, flipping and shaking in 30-second intervals. Tedious, maybe. But it works and that is all that matters!)We use the bottom compartment for his ice pack, drinks and cold/room temperature items; top for the sandwich and lava rocks (I place the sandwich in between the two lava rocks...like a sandwich ;) First week we've owned it, works perfectly, couldn't be happier.

I tested it to see if it actually keeps the food warm. I cooked some pasta, put the hot food in the lunch box together w heated lava heat pad at 11:30am. I let it sit till almost 5pm. I tried the pasta and it was warm, not fresh hot but warm enough to somewhat enjoy the pasta. I still put boiling water inside the lunch box and let it sit for 5-10 minutes while I was cooking pasta.I also bought a couple other highly rated and expensive thermos lunch containers to test them. They don't work as well (food at most room temperature) so I returned all the rest and keep this one. I think no matter how insulated the containers are, it is hard to keep the food warm for hours without a third substance to help keeping the temp. Having a lasting heated pad is the key. It is still not as warm as I want. I prefer hot food but for kids, this is probably the closest working thermos box to keep food warm enough without going to the next level - expensive battery powered lunch box. Battery powered lunch box is a great concept but kids most likely wouldn't remember to turn on the button 15 minutes to start heating their lunch before their lunch time starts. At least mine wouldn't. My son only has 20 minutes for lunch.

I bought my grandchildren these for school so they could have a hot lunch. The lava lunch box delivers they keep their food hot till lunch time and the food is still warm when they get off the bus. Read the directions in how to heat the lava rocks and you will have no issues. The lava rocks heat up on the inside so they appear not to be hot but they are. Do not over heat follow the directions. This is a great product I highly recommended.

My son is in Kindergarten and hates cold food. I heat up the blocks around 6:30 am and when he eats lunch 5 hours later he said his food is still hot! Definitely worth the money!!!I just wish there was a bigger option. It is kinda heavy so my son carries it and doesn't add to his bookbag.

This is my third lava lunch bag I’ve had, only reason we buy more is for the change in design. This bag is perfect for my daughters lunch. After her school refused to microwave her lunches due to a liability, we invested in these and they work great. Keeps her lunch warm enough till lunch.

This is a great little lunch bag. Pros: it keeps my lunch warm for about 5 1/2 hours. I microwave my lunch, then microwave the hot pack for the recommended time, and it keeps it warm. It's not steaming hot by the time I eat it, but more lukewarm. The double compartments work well and the bag itself seems durable. Cons: I wish it was a bit larger. It doesn't have a separate utensil pocket
