Great innovation
I previously bought one of their other plastic version cases, and loved it for quite a while. But about a month ago I got rid of the case for some dissatisfactions with the product and have been checking Ztylus's page for updates. I knew they are gonna figure out what is not perfect with the previous version and come up with something new, yet here we see it.I posted some pictures, and bases my review on the experience of the fat plastic version, the bare pencil, and this metal version. The problem with the plastic version, in my opinion, is that it is really bulky and heavy, for a pen. The designer of that case seems to be designing on the assumption that people are gonna use the pencil exactly how they use a pencil on a book: the book lying flat, and you write on it. Well, at least that's not the scenario for me. I use the pencil mostly to annotate PDFs when I am reading, with the iPad standing up. And the dimension of the plastic version made it really hard to grip in such a use case. Sometimes I even just grab it like a stick and use it.Another well known problem of the plastic version is the charging problem. When you try to insert the pencil into iPad to charge, pressure applied to the pencil within the case, the case tend to slide. Browse through the plastic version's review section and you'll see quite a few mentionings of this.Other than these above, I personally do not have any complaint about the plastic version.I just played with this metal version a little bit, and I gotta say the company has been listening and they did made some improvements.First, they changed some fundamental mechanisms. In the plastic version, the retracting feature is implemented by moving the pencil inside the case, and that mechanism is the root of the charging problem: the case can not possibly provide infinitely sturdy fastening on the pencil so that it does not slip when you grab the outside case, and push the inside apple pencil's charging tip into the iPad, using a indeterministic level of force. But in this metal version, the retraction is implemented by moving back and forth a part of the case. I tried to push, I gotta say the integration of the case and pencil feels much more reliable now. Also, due to the new implementation mechanism, you can charge now even if the tip is not retracted back into the case, which is not a significant feature in my opinion, but is not possible with the previous plastic version and for certain is worth bringing up.Secondly, the texture. The plastic version used some nice plastic, but still, it feels, well, plastic, and is not particularly pleasant to touch. This metal version actually looks better than the picture they post in the description, and feels even better. Solid aluminum, coated in good paint.Thirdly, since they reduced the dimension, the width, of the case by large, now if you are using an iPad case like Logitech create like me, it is possible to rest the case-ed pencil to the magnetic area of the iPad case now. The stability is not robust as you would see with a bare pencil, but it is a big improvement compared to what the plastic version can offer, which is basically goodbye to magnetic resting. Finding a place to put the pencil when I started to type, was indeed an issue that kept coming during those days.Lastly, the actual thing does not look so weird like the one in their pictures. It gives a cold black sight, which I do enjoy. And, yes, it is not perfect, here are some catches:1.the retraction on the metal version does not work so fast like in the plastic version. You have to twist much more circles to retract and extend the tip in this version. Concluding from a less than rigorous experiment, I would say the effort, measured by twisting circles, is 7 to 8 times of that required by the plastic version. I guess this is the price to pay for implementing the new mechanism.2.the pencil with the case still feels a little heavy, although the reduction in dimension does ease the grip and enhance the flexibility of holding to a degree.3.The price is somewhat intimidating. Sometimes I mock myself for spending half the price of the pencil on a case. Wait,,,, I bought two :|4.The built-in clip is fairly loose. It does its job, but it wiggles and revolves easily. I do not so far understand why they choose to make the clip removable, since it does not look like you can buy a replacement somewhere anyways.Overall, if you do want a case, this one is really pretty awesome.

Excellent Item!!!!
I was a tad bit confused when I took it out the box and believed it to not be for my first generation pencil because it seemed not to go in the holder. But after careful examination, I had to turn the top part and eventually it slid right in. I love this cover and have ordered a silver cap that should arrive today.

Pricey but good protection
The Apple Pencil is a great, expensive, delicate tool. For me, when it comes to purchasing anything, anytime "expensive" or "delicate" are involved so are protective cases. In this case it is a case/cover. I looked at a lot of case and cover options, some actual pencil cases, some rubberized sleeves and rubberized sleeves with magnets in them. (I love the idea of being able to magnetically attach the Pencil to the iPad when carrying them or to rest the Pencil while not using it. More on that later.) While researching cases and covers I was also conscious of hand cramps I got due to the narrowness and slickness of the Pencil. With all that in mind I gravitated to the Ztylus Slim Apple Pencil Metal Case.I love the fact that it is made of aluminum, offering great overall protection, outside of the exposed end cap. As others have noted, with the clip, rolling is not an issue. So there's another plus. The size (diameter) is good too. I initially had seen their plastic, earlier version and was considering getting that but the thinkness was a concern. I'm glad the research lead to the metal case because it offers a great in-between option that will take getting used to, but is closer to comfortable. I was hoping the texturized surface would help with the slickness issue, however it doesn't. I found when writing, which I do more than artwork, that I was still having to grip harder to keep my hand from sliding down. Not good for long term use. Applying a strip of gaff tape around the case, close to the point end was a huge improvement. (This is a tip for users if it helps, not a design change suggestion. Though improving the texture of the cover might be good.)By design the Pencil is long, longer than your normal pencil or pen. Adding a metal case to the long Pencil, which is thicker at the cap end makes the long Pencil top heavy. This is something for buyers to be aware of and users to get used to. The little rubber cap protector that is included looks odd and counter to the design of the Pencil and cover. I like the idea of it because I don't want to loose the end cap, but just don't like the look. In addition, the rubber is light with a loose grip so every time I removed the cap I had to readjust the loops as they slid so much. A little frustrating and not something I want to always to be conscious of when using the Pencil. I'm opting to let Apple's magnetic design do its job. Which brings me back to magnetic covers. It would be nice if Ztylus could incorporate a magnet in their design to be able to store the Pencil on the iPad. Though I'm aware with the added weight of the cover itself, it may have to be a sizable magnet which would just increase the bulk and weight of the case and not be an "improvement."Lastly, something to be aware of when installing. It comes with detailed instructions. If you install the Pencil and have the issue that it doesn't retract all the way, experiment with it taking the Pencil out and twisting the case in the opposite direction before reinserting the Pencil. It arrived in the opposite position from what the instructions said it should have been in, which lead to a little confusion when installing at first. In the end, the price may be a turn off. It IS pricey, but I like the case and am happy with the purchase.

Great value, weight, protection in a tiny package!
I never thought I would love a Pencil accessory as much as I love this. While I’ve only had it for a short time, I am very impressed by the quality. It gives the Pencil excellent extra heft and a great feel. I’m never longer worried about putting my Pencil in my bag’s pen pockets. It’s true that you have to turn it several times to extend and retract it, but I love having the peace of mind knowing that the delicate tip of my Pencil is protected from damage.I will update my review after having the case for a while.

Great Case But Better To Use A Pencil Grip
I wanted to use something to protect my apple pencil and this has done a wonderful job so far. The only downside unfortunately is that it does nothing for my carpal tunnel-- I ended up switching this out for a foam grip since my hand tends to get fatigued a lot quicker using this. Otherwise, great product!

Good workmanship and nicely finished product
I enjoy using this case as it is so nicely finished and I can feel quality when I hold the pen with the case on. This is a representation of one of the good engineering products at the current market. If you appreciated good quality, you will understand and don't mind at all paying a bit more for this case. Yes, it does add some weight to the pen which can be good for some users and bad for the others. This excellent case is definitely worth the extra few dollar in my opinion. Highly recommended,
