I've been burned by cheap stud finders before — the kind that beep randomly, false-positive on everything, and leave you guessing whether you're about to drive a screw into drywall or a live wire. The Zircon MultiScanner A200 is a completely different experience.Right out of the box the build quality is noticeably better than anything in this price range has any right to be. It feels solid in hand, the display is clear and readable even in dim lighting, and the controls are intuitive enough that I didn't need to crack open the manual once.The multi-scan capability is where this thing really shines. Being able to detect wood and metal studs, live AC wiring, and metal pipes in a single pass is genuinely useful — especially when you're working on older construction where you have no idea what's hiding behind the drywall. The AC detection alone is worth the price of admission. I've found live wires in spots I never would have suspected, which could have been a very bad day with a drill.Accuracy has been excellent. Edge detection is precise and consistent — I've verified it repeatedly by opening up walls during renovation work and the A200 called every stud edge correctly. No hunting and pecking, no second-guessing. Mark the edge, mark the other edge, find center, done.The deep scan mode is a nice bonus for thicker walls or when you're working through multiple layers of drywall. It handles that without complaint where lesser finders just give up.Battery life is solid too. I've had it in rotation on a multi-week project and haven't had to swap batteries once.If you're doing any serious work — hanging cabinets, mounting TVs, running cable, framing assessments — stop messing around with the $15 magnetic finders and just get this. It's reliable, accurate, and gives you information you can actually act on with confidence. Highly recommended.

I seem to go through stud finders about every 5 years or so. They just seem to stop working well after some time. I usually buy the cheaper models, so I guess I should expect that. This Zircon is a step up from what I usually buy. There are a few things I like about this model (A200) and a few minor things I don't. The things I like are the accuracy when it finds a stud and the red light on center. The ability to show electrical is great. This is a new feature for me. One great feature is the battery indicator. I have found that stud finders are quite particular about having a fully charged strong battery in them. In the cheaper models you don’t know the battery is weakening and you start having problems or difficulties. Usually, a fresh strong battery is the solution. This one is no different. I installed a “new” battery but right away it showed it was low and the device has some operational issues. I found another new battery that was strong, and the device worked fine. Seeing the charge level of the battery is a great feature.The things I don't like are the size.... it is kind of large in my hand. Also, it is a little touchy with regard to finding studs, sometimes it reads falsely, you really need to go over a suspected stud a few times to make sure you have a stud. This is no different than others I have used.Also, this has a metal search, great for finding pipes and such.Overall, this is a good device for the money. I wish it was a little smaller and didn’t get false reading like it does from time to time but these are minor issues.Positives:• Nice large screen• Full featured, electrical, stud, metal scan• Battery monitor when low• Clear lighted indication of center of stud• Reasonable costNegatives:• Rather large size in hand• Can get false reading sometimes.Honestly this is a good device. I think it could be made a little better, perhaps a rechargeable built in lithium battery instead of these 9 volts and a smaller more ergonomic design but again, this is a solid device that I expect years of service from, and my dislikes are pretty minor.Recommended 5 stars.This is my honest review of this item; I hope this it was helpful in your buying decision process.

This thing is so much more accurate than my previous stud finder. Every time it marks the middle of a stud, it is actually the middle of the stud. In some cases, I didn't believe what it was reading. Only to find out that the builder had put two studs an inch apart from each other. And this thing marked them both perfectly. I'm happy with it.

Best stud finder I have ever used

Used this to wall mount a TV. Worked flawlessly. Easy to read and understand.

I had a big round of remodeling coming up, so I decided to upgrade from my old studfinder (probably from Sears 20 years ago) and go with this one. It's about the same honestly. I'll give it points for the nice display; if it actually finds a stud it does a nice job showing the center, but my old one was fine too - just sweep from both directions and split the difference. This one performs about the same as my old one in terms of false positives and false negatives. I've had to resort to guessing, knocking, and drill-every-inch methods more times than I'd like in recent weeks having purchased this. If you don't have a studfinder, maybe this one is ok at its price point. If you do have a decent one, don't expect this to be an upgrade. I'm looking at the Bosch GMS 120 as a potential upgrade to this one.

I have had a similar stud finder to this for years. At best, it was a haphazard process. This worked easily and accurately. Very pleased.

Best stud scanner with deep scan. I like the large display. Not recommended for tight spaces as it's bulky compared to other stud scanners.
