Q: Are the 1/4" sticks soft enough to cut with an Xacto knife?

The stick can be cut with an exacto knife with repeated cuts. I prefer a hand saw with a fine blade or a small electric or power saw.

Q: Im wanting to make a puzzle frame, basically top and bottom only . Will these work? How wide are the strips? I see only thickness and length

It is a square dowel, meaning if the description notes 3/4 inch x 48 inches, The length would be 48 inches, and the sides of the dowel rash measure 3:4 inches. It would be perfect for the frame you wish to make. These dowels are excellent quality.

Q: Are they sturdy? Can I use them as a bed frame extension?

The dowel rods that I have are only 1/4 inch. They are not sturdy enough to to entend a bed frame. They can be easily snapped by hand. I use them to make crafts.
