Thrilled with purchase .. but note that price fluctuates a lot & quality can vary from skin to skin
I am thrilled with this purchase. It seems like a very high quality item and has very soft pile, about 1.25" thick. Baby loves it and just seems so comfortable on it. I primarily use it during playtime, when he's awake. Before he could roll over I also used it for naptime as well, but now that he's older I'm just using it when he's awake (since research/recommendations are mixed, due to potential risk of baby rolling over and rebreathing air in the sheepskin .. and I just didn't feel comfortable taking the risk). Still very worthwhile - provides a great surface for play, and also for changing clothing, etc. Baby can definitely go longer periods of time playing on his own without fussing when lying on this sheepskin.Note that because these items are one-of-a-kind (actual animal skins), the shape, color, density, and quality can vary quite a lot from skin to skin. Due to price drops, I ended up buying this item three different times, and some of the skins were a lot thicker/plusher than others. I was really glad in the end that I ordered multiple items because I was able to keep the best one and return the others. I'm sure the seller will hate me for recommending that, but if the item your receive does not live up to your expectations based on the other reviews, you might be happy if you were to reorder.PS: I mentioned that I reordered due to price drops. The price fluctuates on this item quite a lot, typically between $55 and $90, see below link for price history on camelcamelcamel dot com. If your need is not urgent, you can put a price watch on it, and pull the trigger when the price is at the lower end. That'll save you the pain I had of seeing it available later for a lower price![...]PPS: I was so pleased with this item that I actually bought the Bowron Lambskin Strollerfleece Cover as well. (Some people indicated in their reviews that they used this same item being reviewed here in the carseat/stroller as well, but in my opinion it's too large/heavy, and I wanted something that was specifically designed to accommodate the straps.) I don't use it in the carseat (since it's not supposed to be safe to put anything between baby and carseat that could compress in a crash), but I absolutely LOVE it for the stroller - keeps baby's back from getting sweaty like it used to, and I'm sure it's a lot more comfy to boot. I'm surprised that more people who buy this item don't buy the companion Strollerfleece as well.

Lovely
I almost returned this. I had the label printed off and the box ready to go. I was unconvinced it was needed and felt guilty about buying a sheepskin to begin with. The baby was playing in her playpen and the floor was drafty. I put her on it and she took a two hour nap (unheard of). When she was done playing, for the first time this winter, her little hands were not ice cold from the draft that lays low on the ground in our flat. We kept it. Sometimes I still feel a little guilty, but it's incredibly soft and fluffy and warm. She loves to run her fingers through it as she lies down. It's a really decent size for the money, smelled only so faintly sheepy (like wool) when unpacked, but not at all chemical, and I had picked the company because they seemed legit (no outsourced overseas labor). This is a beautiful rug. I'm glad we didn't return. We now carry it back and forth between her playpen, the living room floor, and the crib for play each and every day.Update:It is summer and I cut holes in this for straps to or it in her stroller as a liner. It's the only thing that stops her from sweating buckets and she sits and lies so comfortably on it. I may have to purchase a dedicated sheepy stroller liner at this point.Update:the now 17 month old kiddo uses this as a rug in her "playroom" (a glorified hallway nook with a toy chest and baby gates). It's super cushy. She loves to sit and lay on it while she smashes her blocks into the floor with gusto. I washed it once on a delicate/wool cycle in the washing machine. My mom actually did it with Meyers detergent, which I wouldn't have done, but it came out absolutely clean and fine, air dried over the course of 2-3 days and I brushed it out with a carding brush back to utter fluffiness. Mostly, brushing it out seems to do the trick on making it clean and new again. We only washed because of outright necessity (spills etc)

CHEMICAL DISINFECTANT ADDED!
I am upset and annoyed by this purchase. I saw the Oeko-Tex certification and felt good purchasing this, especially for the price. Then, I got it. The package was dirty and there was a dirt spot on the wool. I complained and was told I could return it. However, I am tired of the hassle of returning defective or damaged/ dirty items to Amazon! I am a busy mom. I just expect things I buy to be clean and as perfect as if I picked them from the shelves myself.BUT- I was willing to just wash the thing in Eucalan and move on with my life. (I should also add that the back of the skin isn't very smooth. It is 'pilly' like bad quality cotton or polyester. However, I was also willing to overlook THAT, though other skins I have seen have a smooth underside.)Then- I READ THE TAG. Maybe, like me, you assume Oeko-Tex means a clean baby item. In a leather item, I assume the skin has been tested for lead/ cadmium/ yucky tanning chemicals/ etc. But, as I am finding... a whole bunch of "new" chemicals are ok under the current Oeko-Tex label. So, this lambskin "contains biocidal substance: dimethyltetradecyl [3-(trimethoxylsily)propyl]ammoniumchloride"... Sanitized (R) is approved for use in babywear prodcuts under the OEKO-TEX standard 100, class I-IV. "Sanitized, Actifresh, experience the comfort, the built-in antimicrobial protection.I read up on this chemical. It hasn't been studied for long term effects. The short term studies show it isn't horrifically harmful, so it can be added to baby goods. I have read up on it now, and have determined I don't want my baby sleeping on it or snuggling it. How many chemicals seem fine, but 20 or 30 years later are determined to be problematic? I would have picked another brand of lambskin if I had known. Maybe you are ok with this chemical, but I assume other parents want to know what is in the baby items they buy, so they can avoid the annoyance of needing to return due to unexpected surprises!
