Limited edition LP on 180-gram vinyl. 2013 reissue. Rarely is one new album release so influential that it changes the face of modern music, but that is exactly what The Allman Brothers Band's self-titled release did in 1969. Fusing rock, blues, jazz and even hints of the gospel tradition, they created southern rock. It became a sound that is emulated to this day. Oddly enough, there were only 50,000 copies of the original album sold, but musicians and critics took note. The biggest attention grabber was Gregg Allman's "Whipping Post." In spite of it's slow start, "The Allman Brothers Band" did break into the Billboard 200 at #188. Now the album is so studied that it has been remastered from the original tapes at half speed and cut into 180-gram audiophile vinyl for a special limited edition release.

Legendary recording for a good, good reason.
Heavy, heavy tunes. I have intentionally overlooked the Allman Brothers for decades due a number assumptions. They always seemed to appeal to drunken bikers-so it never got a spin at my house. Thirty years later, I bought it merely on a whim, and I am glad I did. One thoughtful tune followed by another, with " Not my Cross to Bare" & "Whipping Post" real stand outs. Extraordinarily mature material which seems to bubble forth effortlessly from these young, young musicians. These are tunes that have, and will continue, to stand the test of time.

Mobile Fidelity, say no more
Have been a long time fan of Mofi and this is another stellar effort. Have listen to "Beginning"s for years but on this version picked up sounds never before heard. Sure you can get this and Idlewild South on Beginings for half of this disc price, and the sound quality is fine. However, if you understand Mofi you probably have the sound system that will deliver the goods on the difference in price.

One of the greatest albums of the rock era in the most powerful mix of them all. If you are a collector of the greatest albums ever recorded, do not miss this one in its master recording. What a treat. Truly the best I have ever heard this album, which I bought on LP long ago when it first appeared in its original iteration. Color me a fan.

dig it!
A great album. These guys brought so much to the table - the depth of emotion and the amount of class - for guys that young makes this a most impressive 1st recording for the band. I listened and played along with this for about 8 hours the 1st day I heard it back in th 70's.

Classic Southern Rock
I'll admit that I am NOT a big fan of "southern rock music," if by that you mean Lynyrd Skynyrd, but this bluesy 1969 debut album by the Allman Brothers Band is superb, even hauntingly beautiful, filled with sadness, passion, and soul. The SACD version sounds excellent and is well worth the additional cost. Highly recommended.

A great old favorite.
Once again MoFi did not fail. This LP is very quiet. All you hear is the music. I'm a big Allman Brothers fan from way back and have been buying MoFi's releases as they come out to add to my collection. You will not be disappointed.

owned
I think I've owned this album in all forms. I know for sure I had the 8 track. Just a nice timeless sound that you would think is from a up and coming musician if you didn't know better.

the Allman Brothers sooth the soul
I have loved this album since I was a young teen. It was made way before my age, but I always thought I was born too late anyway to enjoy them in their original youth. At least I get to ENJOY this album.
