Blu G91 Pro Review: Good, but not quite Pro
First, let me tell you, I’m a Blu fanboy! I love their products and that they stand apart from the competition by providing quality unlocked devices at a budget price. Typically, you can purchase an unlocked GSM (T-Mobile, AT&T, etc.) phone for anywhere from $80 – $250. While the price is budget they provide a ton of value. Second, I purchased this phone with my own money and this review is not pre-approved by anyone prior to posting.Pros:PriceLooks goodGood screenPerformanceCons:SpeakersCameraLacking 5GDesign:We look with our eyes first and no one wants to walk around with a handset that screams budget. This isn’t like elementary school and I’m being forced to walk around in Bobos. Instead you’re treated with design language that references Apple and Samsung. Yes, the back is plastic, but it looks really nice. There are two colors, but only the Graphite version was available at launch. Blu has stated that Moonstone, a pearlescent silver/purplish color, will be available sometime in October, approximately a month from now. There’s a rectangular glass-covered set of cameras (4 to be specific) on the back as well as the fingerprint sensor, which is IMHO the best place to put it. The front of the phone is mostly screen with a hole-punch in the top center of the screen. There are two buttons on the right hand side, a power button and a volume rocker. Nothing unusual. And it also has a headphone jack, which I’m glad they kept.Display:Speaking of the screen, you’ll find a 6.7″ LCD screen and Blu boasts 91.4% screen-to-body ratio. Basically, like most iPhones and Samsung devices you’ll find today. The G91 had moved the hole-punch to the left corner and I think I liked that a little better. However, I’ve been watching a ton of content on the screen and I really haven’t noticed it that much. The display is FHD+ so it’s a little more than 1080p. The colors are vivid and can be adjusted. The screen refresh rate is 60 which is not surprising at this price. Movies and Instagram look great on this device.Performance:Performance is where Blu shines with their phones. Over the last 3 years they’ve taken steps to make sure their phones are just as snappy as midrange and even premium handsets. They’re rocking the MediaTek Helios G90 process. It’s a mild step down from the G90T in the G90 Pro, but you won’t notice a difference as they’ve bumped up the memory to 6GB. I didn’t experience any issues in normal use or gaming. I’m not a huge phone gamer, but I tried Fortnite and Asphalt 9 and the games loaded fairly quickly. The 128GB of storage was great for this as well.Audio:Sound is fine for phone calls, but a bit lackluster through the external speakers. Everything sounded great through headphones. I don’t have a lot to say other than this seems to be one of the areas that took a hit when it came to the budget for the phone.Cameras:Finally is the cameras I mentioned above. There are 4 cameras on the rear and 1 on the front. The rear cameras are a 5MP wide angle, 48MP main, 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor. You won’t get the quality of Google’s pixel camera or even some of lower spec’d Samsung and iPhones. If you want great photos you will need to either pick a more expensive phone or shoot in the RAW (which is supported… WOOT!) and edit the results yourself. The latter is a great feature that is not present in even some premium phones. I’m not saying the photos aren’t fine for average users, but if you’re used to a little more automation you may be disappointed. The macro lens could have been left off as 2MP does not provide much of an end result at all. The front facing selfie camera is fine in bright lights, just don’t expect much from it either.Summary:I really want to love this phone. My main issue is that I’ve been waiting for it since the Blu G91 was released. I expected more. The G90 Pro was a huge step up from the G90. It included the G90T processor from MediaTek, wireless charging, and “LiquidCooling” technology, whatever that was. None of these things was included in the G91 Pro. They stepped down the processor, have no mention of the “LiquidCooling", and missed something huge… 5G. I know it sounds weird, but with game streaming with services like GeForceNow and Stadia adding more content I would think a gaming phone would want a high speed connection. Price may have been a factor, but OnePlus has put out a similar priced device with 5G and 90Hz display. I think that we’ll see amazing things in the near future from Blu, but this isn’t quite it. Mainly they just wanted to put out a device for 2021 with Android 11 and more memory. Mission completed, but it’s hard to celebrate when some of the long-desired features didn’t quite make it into the Pro handset.

Why did I buy another one of these sucky BLU phones?
Hi Amazon folks. Where do I begin? I guess first off I need to tell you that over the last 8-10 years I have purchased several BLU phones and Products. I guess you could say I am the $200 cell phone purchaser. Way back when I first used BLU phones they seemed like a pretty reasonable phone and price. Over time it was reported that BLU phones had embedded Chinese spyware. This was proven and their phones were taken off of amazon for awhile. They supposedly from the news fixed the issue and resumed selling the phones on amazon. Then it came back up again. By this time I was not liking the thought of my data being shipped to China. I also did not like the fact that the phones were being made with a glass back. I am a hard working person and am very hard on my phones, thus the reason I have owned so many BLU phones. These two reasons were ultimately the reason that I stopped buying these BLU phones. Recently however I was in need of a new cell phone due to my mistake of buying a UMIDIGI F1 (china phone) that actually lasted almost 2 years (due to being replaced twice) but always has issues. I thought I would look into BLU again for old time sake. I found that the new G91Pro phone had a plastic back rather than glass and liked that. I also saw that the resolution was supposed to be much nicer, it wasn't. Stupid mistake on my part. This phone arrived last Friday and I set it up but it wouldn't transfer very much of my old phone, just my contacts. Everything else I had to reload from scratch. The other day the screen went crazy, like a blend of gray colors bleeding across the screen and would not go away until I rebooted the phone. I think the only real differences that I am finding with this phone vs. my old UMIDIGI phone that was my worst cell phone ever is, the screen is larger on this BLU phone, the Android version is nicer (11 rather 9) and I like the phone case (it will protect this P.O.S. phone from my rough handling). I really can not think of anything else that justifies me replacing this other cheap china phone. I see plenty of good reviews for this phone but this is most likely because people are intoxicated by the new car smell if you follow me with a somewhat euphemism? You might want to consider reading the reviews of people who have a lot of experience with BLU phones. We know a bit more about these $200 phones. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PHONE!!!UPDATE 12.24.21: I finally had to contact BLU again and they said it is in FACT defective and needed to be refunded. Now to search for a phone made after 2020 that is actually worth buying. They are all (in my opinion) using old parts due to the supposed electronic parts shortages.

I needed a second phone, I got more than I expected.
I didn't need much. Just something to stick a spare sim card in and use for emergencies. It was $159 unlocked. I expected something like a crick8t free phone or a trap phone. It's nice. Screens bright. Looks good, works well. Finger print sensor on rear is old school, works very fast and is fine. Has NFC. Very little bloat. Makes me rethink my last $700 phone, which I thought was a bargain at the time. I like this phone. At regular $249 I would have liked this phone. No one one will think you are broke when you whip it out.

Just a nice phone, nicely equiped without costing an arm/leg, etc.......
I had to search a long time just to find a phone that had advertised it had a valid warrantyusable, if necessary, in the USA. This one says it has a manufactures warranty, also stated ithad some other desirable features, I searched for, built-in, which are what I was also wantingto find. I do like aftermarket warranties that take over from the OEM brand when they runout. HOWEVER, when checking-out with this phone, " NO " additional warranty was offeredto me, at or before check-out, but through chat, I was told someone would contact me aboutmy new phone purchase and a warranty......"SURPRISE", a few days ago I did another "chat"only to find out that there was a thirty day time limit in which to purchase one, so now I'ma few days late........."THANKS A LOT AMAZON".....I should have been more skeptical inbelieving someone was going to follow-up on my phone purchase......NOW, I'm screwed, for all I have is the Manufactures' short warranty period ! I'm just PISSED because we can'teven believe an Amazon representative on what they tell us any longer.....it's difficult toreceive great service anywhere these days! Thinking of returning it and starting a lengthyphone search all over again....NOT VERY HAPPY with this new phone purchase NOW!Although.....it is a great phone!

Stop spending hundreds of dollars on cell phones
Great battery life, fingerprint reader is on point. Face recognition, I've never been a fan of, but it's okay for those who like this feature. For everyday cell usage this is great. If you're into using a lot of data, it depends on your carrier as with any phone, but this can handle it, so far at least. Comes pre-loaded with a ton of apps, many I'll never use, so I just delete them. It's slightly bigger than my previous BLU phone by 1/2 inch, very responsive and a ton of features I haven't tried yet. One word of caution: if you are a S.T. user, this phone will not work with the ATT sim card, but will work with the T-Mobile sim card. Overall this will should be able to switch over to 5G when it's available in your area, but check first.
