Very short version: Updating the firmware to v3.0 solves most of the problems. The camera works just fine. Very good results. A camera with its own character. Photo samples on the review.Short version: If out of the box you update to the v3.0 of the firmware all the previous problems and complaints are solved. Focus problems fixed, RAW+Jpeg available, Manual exposure in video available, improved touchscreen response, better JPEG processing (is still a little bit mushy but it will look decent for most of the users). I can't remember what other problems I read about but I haven't found any major flaws on the camera, it just works fine. If you have, or trying to get, a medium level set of photographic skills this is your camera (and get both lenses, the 42mm is just beautiful).Long version:I have been a Nikon DSLR user for the last 6 years. I am a photographer and I needed to renew my equipment but my budget was small. Decided to risk it with this baby and this is what I've found out so far (after updating to the V3.0 of the firmware):Very good things:Premium packaging, it's awesome to open the box for the first time.High end m 4/3 sensor. Very good dynamic range ( I haven't tested but I am guesstimating around 10 stops).Useful files up to ISO 6400 (if you shoot in RAW and you do some basic noise reduction in post).Very good color rendering.Access to M 4/3 universe (lots of lenses and adapters).Very good RAW files.Low weight.Full control trough your phone.Easy to operate.Software updates and a company that listens to its costumers (if you read the first reviews you can see they've been adding the features people was asking for with the new software updates).Good thingsBoth lenses perform as you could expect from a kit. The 42 mm actually a little bit above of what you expect, especially using the macro mode.USB charger.You can use the camera while charging, what means that you can use an external battery like the ones to charge phones on the go and never stop shooting.The guide to help models to pose.Real time preview on your phone.1080 (24p, 30p, 60p), 2k(30p) and 4k (30p) video.Manual controls for video.Not that great things:Focus is not super fast, but works good in most of the situations.It can be too small depending on your hands.No TTL option with external flash.It gets some time to get used to the touch screen controls if you are not a phone addict millennial.Things that can be improved:JPEG still a little bit mushy (too much noise reduction).Lack of accessories.Live HDMI output for external recorders.Manual WB control in video.Flat video recording to allow color grading.Control video recording from your phone, most of the phones would make a good external monitor to be honest.Release of API for the firmware so the community can develop the software too.Conclusion:Awesome piece of technology that have been improving every couple of months. You get an impressive 20mp Sony sensor, 4k video and a couple of very decent lenses under $400. Good job Yi.

Are you kidding me? At this latest price with the 2-lens kit, it’s great for anyone to try the M43 system. With the latest firmware, the camera gets the update and sync with my Android phone instantly! I have already tried both lens on my other M43 cameras and they all just worked! This is not just a camera for the new users! I’m a tinker in all kinds of cameras and this one is enjoyable to mess around. Yi is a Chinese company but this camera is “Made in Indonesia”! Looks like they have figured out how to play in the camera industry just like all the other big players.

I do enjoy this camera. I bought it for video, and still use it for that, but it’s a great still camera. Picture quality in photos are fantastic. Better quality than iPhone 8, which I’m happy with.

Works great after I updated to latest firmware. Minus one star for it being ‘used’ since there was a memory card left in there from a previous customer - though the unit was spot free

This camera takes great pictures. I am having a difficult time trying to find extra batteries. Does yi still make them for the yim1.

I bought this camera for indoor photography, the camera and 2 lenses were low priced and I liked it. It's nice that it's so easy to work with. Too bad there is no new generation but the updates were easily installed (a brief Google search and everything went really well).

Nice camera with some cool features but auto focus is just too slow for anything but nature. G

Easy setup and inexpensive components

sono sempre stato molto scettico su qst mirrorles, non per il marchio che amo, ma proprio perchè penso che per foto/video non ci si può improvvisare.. ho visto diverse recensioni e della qualità nn ne parlavano male.. a mio giudizio per il kit completo le corca 400€ erano troppe, ma con il codice sconto sono riuscito a prenderla per 250€ circs.. nn potevo farla scsppare.vi dico.. il TUTTO TROPPO TOUCH nob mi fa impazzire, come anche le funzioni automatiche e semi.. ma per il costo e la qualità non posso di certo lamentarmi.a prezzo pieno nn la consiglierei.. non li vale.. ma rimane comunque un ottimo giocattolino

Mirrorless di ottima fattura, leggera ed intuitiva, da non sottovalutare il doppio obiettivo, provata anche inncondizionindi scarsa illuminazione ed il risultato è più che soddisfacente.

Très bon rapport qualité par rapport aux autres 4/3 bas de gamme. Facilité d'emploi. C'est un 20 Mp. Ecran tactile.Le zoom 12-40 n'est pas extraordinaire mais n'est pas du tout ridicule par rapport au zoom 12-32 Panasonic.Le 42.5 F 1.8 est très bien. L'appareil a reçu de mauvaises critiques sur Internet lors de sa sortie (comme le Leica T dont il s'est largement "inspiré") mais la plupart ont été corrigées par mise à jour du firmware 3.2 (jpg+Raw, autofocus etc).Mes reproches: zoom 12-40 un peu encombrant, Autofocus un peu lent en basse lumière, lissage des jpg trop important ce qui pourrait être amélioré dans un prochain firmware par des réglages plus nombreux des jpg (bruit, ombre, lumière etc). Vu le prix pour un boitier et deux optiques il ne faut pas trop critiquer.

La disponibilità di due focali e la grande risoluzione delle immagini non compensano la scarsa qualità del sensore. Le immagini ottenute sono pari a quelle di uno smartphone di fascia medio-bassa.

Eines vorweg: Ich habe die Kamera in silber mit den beiden Objektiven zum Sonderpreis von 399.- € hier bei AMAZON gekauft. Für diesen Preis behalte ich das Set. Betonung liegt hierbei auf: Für diesen Preis! Wäre der Preis höher gewesen, wäre ich stark ins Grübeln gekommen und hätte sie wahrscheinlich zurück geschickt bzw. gar nicht erst gekauft.POSITIV:Der Versand erfolgt schnell und unkompliziert.Das Set ist wertig und sicher verpackt.Optisch macht das Set in silber schon was her, trotz Plastik ein gutes Gefühl.Liegt gut in der Hand, auch mit Objektiv gut ausgewogen.Einstellungen lassen sich gut und schnell vornehmen.Umstellung der Bedienung zu einer herkömmlichen Kamera geht flott voran.Bildqualitäten in JPG und RAW gehen in Richtung GUT.Videoqualitäten sind gemessen am Preis gut und erfüllen die Erwartungen.Setobjektiv besser als erwartet, 42,5mm-Objektiv sehr gut ab Blende 4.0.Nach Firmware-Update Quantensprung in Bedienung und Qualität!Akkulaufzeit geht in Ordnung.Zu Smartphone und App kann ich nichts sagen, nutze ich nicht.Autofokus über Display und Touchauslösung klappt überraschend gut.Allgemein ist die Displaybedienung sehr komfortabel und der Umgang mit der Kamera macht Freude.Sony-Sensor bringt qualitativ sehr viel.Akku und Speicherkarte getrennt untergebracht.Gewinde für Stativplatte mittig angebracht.42.5er sehr leicht - Tamronfertigung ( laut Internet ) - kann mit Olympus und Panasonic locker mithalten.Das Wetter spielt momentan leider nicht mit, daher konnte ich nur Innenaufnahmen bei ungünstigem Licht machen.Die Bildresultate sind gemessen am Preis-Leistungsverhältnis durchaus ansprechend.Selbst bei Aufnahmen ohne Blitz trifft der AF und die Farben werden sehr natürlich dargstellt.Ich habe über Photoshop bei 100% Ansicht die Aufnahmen kontrolliert und bin, vor allem bei der Festbrennweite, sehr zufrieden.Jetzt erklärt sich auch der Umstand, dass das 42.5er nicht separat angeboten wird.Bei besseren Lichtverhältnissen werden ich meine gesamten Festbrennweiten an der YI M1 testen und dann mit den Resultaten meiner PEN-F bei identischen Voraussetzungen vergleichen.Habe heute vier Aufnahmen gemacht: Bild 1 mit dem Setobjektiv; Bild 2 mit dem M.Zuiko 75mm; Bild 3 manuell mit einem 12mm und Bild 4 manuell mit einem 14mm ( Ausschnitt ).Die negativen Kommentare zum Setobjektiv kann ich nicht nachvollziehen. Es ist nicht besser, aber auch nicht schlechter als andere Setobjektive.Die Bilder 5 bis 9 wurden mit dem Setobjektiv gemacht. Bild 10 mit Festbrennweite/Graufilter64; Bilder 11 und 12 mit Setobjektiv/Graufilter ( Tanzlinde ! ).Setze jetzt öfter den AF flächendecked ein ( ca. 20 Aufnahmen ) und lege dann die Ebenen mit Photoshop aufeinander. Die Resultate sprechen für sich und das Fotografieren mit Stativ und Touch-Pen geht schnell. Kamera macht immer mehr Spaß!Heute das letzte Bild mit dem Setobjektiv- astrein!Bild 14 als Fokus-Stacking mit dem Setobjektiv 12mm.Heute konnte ich endlich die beiden Setobjektive an meiner PEN-F testen ( letzten 5 Bilder ).Nachtrag ( 5 Monate später ):Die Kamera macht noch immer große Freude. Ich benutze sie genauso oft wie meine PEN-F.Mittlerweile noch eine E-M5 MARK II dazu gekommen für mein 300mm Tele, das 12-100mm und das 7-14mm.An der PEN verwende ich das 17mm/1.8 und das 30mm Makro. An der YIM1 das 42.5 und 75mm mit 4K.Damit spare ich mir das Wechseln.Wer hätte vor 10 Jahren gedacht, dass sich das MFT-Format so durchsetzt!NEGATIV:Lieferumfang ist sehr spartanisch.Deutscher Netzstecker fehlt.Handbuch nur ein paar Seiten, nur in Englisch.Ladezeit per USB-Netzkabel dauert ein paar Stunden.FIRMWARE ( Kamera und Objektiv ) sehr veraltet.Keine Gegenlichtblenden.Keine Rechnung, nur Lieferschein ( polnisch? ).Firmware-Update ( manuell ) nicht ganz unproblematisch.Autofokus beim Setobjektiv nicht immer zielsicher, auch an anderer Kamera.Wärmeentwicklung schon nach kurzer Zeit- angenehm bei jetzigen Temperaturen.Manuelles Scharfstellen beim 42.5er nicht möglich.Lock-Schalter beim Setobjektiv ohne Funktion.Tragegurt zwar wertig, jedoch traue ich dem Verschlusssystem nicht- zu windig.Akku hält max. für 200 Bilder, hängt wahrscheinlich mit permanenter Display/Touch-Bedienung zusammen.

I bought this little camera to make videos in 4k with my manual lenses. I was afraid about the software, but personally I was surprised. The building quality it's impressive! I'm using with a tamron 15-30 f2. 8 which is a big fat lens for full frame. The body can hold it easily! The hardware it's perfect the software is laggy sometimes, but I can live with that. With some additional bug fixes this camera gonna unbeatable. So keeps going yi!
