Slip on with top and bottom Velcro adjustments. Good brace with lightweight fabric behind the knee for comfort - no binding or squeeze.

I measured 2" below the center of the knee cap and got 14.25" to 14.5" . Would you recommend the L or XL?

Sounds like you're a "tweener." I'm 15.25 which puts me into the outside range of the XL and the beginning range of the XXL. I tried the XL for the snugger fit but the adjustable straps (that originate in the back) were pinching the flesh in the back of my knee... without pulling them tight at all. So I ordered the larger size, kept both for a week and compared that way. The XXL has stretched out a bit at the top and the bottom, which can be dealt with by tightening the straps. And when I do that, I don't get the pinch of the XL. My recommendation would be to buy both and return one. If that's not feasible, I can only say the larger size worked better for me.
