Great Book
Paul has a unique way of teaching bass. With a more hands-on approach to the process, you end up learning intervals and chord formation along with Jamerson's style.

Very well structured book learning no matter if you're a beginner or advanced
The book is well organized. All the sections in it are organized in a very logical manner and is done in both music and tablature. The book would be great for any level beginner all the way up to advance, there's something in there for everyone. I've been playing bass professionally for 34 years and James Jamerson was my idol so I even found stuff in there that I didn't even notice before. I have the original book standing in the shadows of Motown which actually pre-ordered before it came out because I have the famous Guitar World Bass issue that talked about it, I also got the CDs for the book when they became available and I spent all my time learning his stuff and figuring out how to incorporate it and playing heavy metal music. Very well done and I can't wait to get volume 4 as soon as it comes out.

Excellent Book
Excellent book. This particular authors approach to teaching is very good for hands on and practical learners. Every example you are shown a stripped down version for a fundamental understanding, then progressively ups the difficulty for complex and at tempo use. He does a good job of speaking about the music in a band context and how something sounds to the listener instead of just saying “it’s good because music theory says so.” He also gives the framework and examples of how you should be practicing what you are learning. You can email the author and get the recorded audio examples and backing tracks as well. I own Friedlands walking basslines, standing in shadows of Motown, and Hal Leonard’s complete bass method book but Paul Wolfes books have developed me more as a bass player than any of the others.

Great Learning Method!
When I decided to learn bass guitar, I searched extensively for a system that would work for me. When I came across Paul Wolfe’s 80-20 Device Method Book For Bass Guitar I thought it would be a good match for my learning style. After receiving the 50 Songs book and working through the first few Modules, I knew his method was the right one. The Two Finger Rest Stroke was the best method I have found for learning. I went on to order his Deliberate Practice book and then his two books on Blues and three books on Learning from James Jamerson. This system just works for me! I have tried other methods and systems with little success but I am now confident that I am on the right path.

Yuo CAN sound like James!
Obviously, this books takes off where Vol 1 started. I recommend you complete Vol1 and fully internalize it's contents before starting Vol 2. For me, the "magic" started about half way thru the book in that I was developng my own bass lines, based on the book's ideas, and guess what: started to sound like James himself without really thing about it; the ideas just "flowed". I highly recommed ALL of Paul's books. He has spent a lot of time separating the wheat from the chaf and giving you just what you need to take you bass playing to that next level.

This Is An Amazing Book
This is part 2 of the playing of James Jamerson. I have found nothing like it anywhere. It give an in depth study of Jamerson's playing and his ability to use his specific skills to create some of the best bass lines ever put together. It explains Jamerson's thinking and looks at all his work to analyze the specific thing he relied on in his work. I purchased all of the books in this series and recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning this kind of bass playing. Motown is my thing!!

Finally a great progressive analysis of James Jamerson basslines!
This series of “Learning From James Jamerson” is an excellent companion set to “Standing In the Shadows of Motown: The Life and Music of Legendary Bassist James Jamerson”. Full of ideas to take what’s in the book and apply to various musical playing situations.

Expanding essential tools for devising your own bass lines!
Volume 2 takes on where vol 1 left off, adding devices and building on where to use this in a real-world setting using JJ's lines as a reference material. Highly recommended! The payoff from this book is that there is additional online complimentary material available when you register, this gives other resources, including filmed application of many of the examples in the book.
