The perfect compost bin!
After some research I discovered if you want a smell-free compost bin, it needs airflow, which means bugs can get in, which means storing it in the fridge (which also helps with smell). If you canโt store in the fridge, then get the food scrap bin which is airtight so bugs canโt get in, but it will smell. This bin is perfect in the fridge! The stainless steel handles doesnโt show fingerprints and is perfect for grabbing one handed if my hands are dirty or full. The lid is also easy to open one handed, which helps if you just have something small and donโt want to take it out of the fridge. Itโs easy to clean and the light color makes it easy to see what needs cleaning. I LOVE THIS BIN! It is so thoughtfully designed and makes composting easy!

Nice size and attractive!
I am a huge fan of anything Joseph Joseph. Their designs are very intelligent. This fits well on the counter and is not obtrusive. It is easy to clean. We use compostable bags and empty it daily, so smell is not an issue. The lid stands up on it's own and it is easy to replace the bags. It is lightweight, so it is easy to move around the counter if you have different food prep areas.

Great little compost bin
This looks really small, and that's just what I needed. It holds about a month of waste that I dump into the outside composter. There's no smell, the bags compost, I love it.

Looks nice on counter
I like this one, i like the shape, it saves space on the counter...if its curved it would be wasting space on the curved area... it works well... pricy but feels like good quality.

Great little caddy
This thing is great - you can flip up the lid and close it to keep the smell at bay - we rarely have food in it for more than 24hrs, so I don't know how well the odor gets absorbed. It stores easily under the sink and you can grab it easily with the handle. When you are ready to dump, the lid/handle comes off to dump with ease.

Nice tote, customer service doesnโt answer inquiries
This is the only countertop composter that I found that at first look, appears to be designed correctly. That is, air can come in through holes that start in the bottom and open into the inside, then the air goes out through the carbon/charcoal filter on the top, kind of like an attic ventilation system works (air comes in through the sofits and out the roof vents). This should allow the contents to dry out preventing bugs and mold, while at the same time not allowing any bad smells to get into your house. Units that only have the carbon filter on top, but no way for air to flow through, will attract bugs and mold, and if they are stainless steel, acid from tomatoes will eat holes in the sides of the steel. That being said, after buying and owning this for 4 years, I can tell you that it doesnโt work quite as well as I had hoped as far as not getting bugs. It does get a few fruit flies. The unit is made well, being sturdy and having a nice handle for transport. Now the bad: *It is SMALL (see submitted picture, and note the coffee maker as a reference for size). If you put alot of compostable waste in this it won't take long to fill up (see submitted picture). Stretch your space by only using it for organic waste. *It is ONLY ONE GALLON in capacity, so you pretty much have to buy the compost bags made by Joseph Joseph (and they are a little expensive at $15 for 50) in order to get a proper fit, since other companies with better prices have 1.2 gallon bags or larger, . *The carbon/charcoal filters from Joseph Joseph are ridiculously EXPENSIVE at $16 for two very small thin ones, but you should be able to buy less expensive ones and cut them to fit. *The cover over the carbon filter on the top is kind of HARD TO REMOVE. There are two release clips on the underside of the lid that you have to push to get it off to access the filter (see provided picture) and it takes a clip pushing, pushing up, pulling from the top action to open the filter case. All in all, I would recommend this item as a temporary way to store compost before transferring it outside to your large composter and avoid smells in your house in the meantime. UPDATE: I accidentally knocked off and broke the clips on the filter cover for this. I found that Joseph Joseph sells what appears to be the replacement part through their website. I wanted to be sure it was the correct part for my model, so I wrote them, and got NO RESPONSE. I am knocking this review down by one โญ๏ธ for bad customer service after the sale.

Nice countertop solution
I've been using this for about a week after being very resistant to saving food scraps. I like the size - it's perfect for daily use. Our city has us add scraps to our green/landscape bin so composting is fairly straight forward. The countertop bin they provided us was just absolutely terrible so I've been hunting for a decent replacement ever since. This looks really nice in the kitchen, you wouldn't know it was full of food scraps. It's a good size, it's small so it doesn't take up too much space, but roomy and really easy to clean. The lid opens up nicely and is lightweight so it doesn't tip the bin (like the city provided one did...) The metal handle is also a great upgraded feature. It just feels sturdy and well made. It's still winter so the bugs aren't out yet, so I'm not sure how well this will deter pests. I'll update if we end up with a fruit fly problem.

Makes Required Composting Much Easier
I purchased this compost caddy because composting is required by my municipality, and it has made managing food scraps much easier. I was initially worried about bugs and odors, but it has not really been a problem. Occasionally, I notice small gnats hanging around near the bin, but they are not able to get inside, which helps keep the compost contained and my kitchen cleaner. The size works well for collecting food scraps without taking up too much counter space, and the design helps keep everything organized until it is time to empty it. Overall, this is a practical and convenient compost bin. It has helped make required composting much easier to manage and has worked well for my kitchen.

Modern and chic
Bought this to replace the mulfunction small step bin. Feel relief seeing the little caddy sits neatly on the narrow counter top. It means, no more bending over to discard unwanted produces and vegetables.

Great little bin, perfect for small space, sleek and tidy!
This is a great organics bin, I've had mine for about two months now and not one complaint. It cleans easy, bags are easy to switch out and there's a spot inside the bin where a new bag can be fastened so it stays put and doesn't move around on you. It comes with a small carbon filter which is very good for not letting any odours escape the unit. The lid fits tight and sturdy, the handle tucks away behind the unit and the whole thing looks neat and tidy on the countertop and is the perfect size for several days of food scraps (for two people at least, we cook a lot at home so we do use it constantly throughout the day). The lid stays up and out of the way nicely when you open it to throw the scraps in without closing on you unexpectedly. Mine is the charcoal color and looks great, and the design makes it easy to tuck out of the way and fit against the wall easily. I'm super happy with it overall!

compact, practical, stylish -> could be a perfect solution for you too...
It took me ages to make up my mind about the choice of a little waste container to put on my worktop. This J & J waste container ticked all the boxes for me, except the price box! I finally realized if placed on the right hand side of my sink, not far from my dark grey and stainless steel kettle and toaster by Breville, the dark grey plastic and the stainless steel handle of the J & J compost container would match perfectly. I have to admit this was the last reason that made me go ahead with the order, (though not the main reason!) but I was still thinking the price was a bit high. I must say I am now DELIGHTED with the practical and stylish result on my worktop! Worth every penny of it! Liner bags? Easy to notice the way of fixing the liner bags was very well thought of. Even the bags I had (a bit too big), worked. I will eventually shop around at Amazon to buy the proper size of J & J liners for it. This little compost container corresponds perfectly to my needs. I have already got a dual Brabantia kitchen bin on the kitchen floor. It has 2 sections - one of which is for all our garden compost. We are vegetarian, we always make fresh soup and we eat lots of fruit & veg so, we get lots and lots of peelings going straight into that bin. When full, it's emptied into our large compost bins at the end of the garden. I needed a small size compost container on my worktop (instead of using a salad bowl covered with a large plate!!!) to fill up with items connected with food I do NOT put in my garden compost (bits of cooked food, cheese rinds, daily peelings of citrus fruit, large stones from avocados (take years to decompose!) & stones from peaches and apricots, plus coffee filters & tea bags). The Council give us a sort of good size brown bucket to fill up with stuff for garden compost + bits of cooked foods and whatever you don't want to dump into your own garden compost -- but all must be put in biodegradable bags. No place on my kitchen floor for this brown squarish bucket, and it is much too big (and ugly) to put on my worktop! I keep it in the garage. The "bucket" in question gets emptied once a week at the same time as our general rubblish bins. Every 5 or 6 days, I empty the contents of my little J&J container into that brown bucket. Perfect solution for me. I now could not do without my J&J compact waste container, sitting nicely on my kitchen worktop, next to my sink, looking great with other accessories, and doing a much much better job than my old salad bowl covered with a plate! A liner bag gets filled within just about a week and it never ever smells. I feel I have now completed all my efforts towards the recycling of food, in a very satisfactory and very happy way!
