Great summary of Dudeism and being a Dudeist Priest
In his great new book, “The Incomplete Dudeist Priest’s Handbook,” our fellow Dude the Reverend Gary M. Silva spends roughly the first third of the book writing about what Dudeism is. It’s a great read that all interested in Dudeism will enjoy. Related philosophies and religions as such. What does it mean to Abide? And What do Dudeist do? From there he moves on to the practitioner side of being a Dudeist priest, stuff like wedding, funerals, even christenings, baptisms, and circumcisions. (Just kidding about the foreskin reductions.)I was particularly interested in Gary’s take on recreation as an essential part of being a Dude. Play is an important part of health, I think.Gary writes: “The Dudeist may even enjoy the competitive nature of games, so long as they do not take it too seriously. Friendly competition can be quite fun, when one focusses on the process of it all, and not so much on the winning. If someone becomes too attached to winning, they may end up pulling a gun (figuratively or literally) on the lanes. Keep your attention on the enjoyment of the game, not on winning and losing.”I have always been struck by the Dude’s participation in a competitive bowling league. What were the Coen brothers trying to say? In simple terms, I think, it’s to contrast Dude and Undude living. I’ve read that they shot film of the Dude bowling but didn’t use it in the movie, so we don’t know if he was any good at bowling or not. I think the Dude would want to bowl correctly and enjoy the process, but wouldn’t care much about the score. Walter would, of course, Walter the Undude. As Gary writes, the fellowship of friends is a big part of healthy recreation. The Dude enjoyed his friends, and they wanted to compete in league play, so why not? Walter the Undude was the contrast – over the line, score keeping, the whole bit. A study in Dude and Undude living. My thanks to Gary for the new book. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to live a Dudely life.

You want this book. You do. It will help you... in ways you cannot yet imagine.
After watching The Big Lebowski, I was drawn to learn more about the pop culture phenomenon, and the religion (really, it's more of a practice) that was inspired by the film. Say what you will, at least it's an ethos. In all seriousness, this book is a delightful encapsulation of the bones of Dudeism. Roughly the first half of the book is dedicated to the faith. The latter half provides guidance on various rites, ceremonies you might be asked to officiate and other situations you might find yourself in as a Priest of the Latter Day Dude. It's written by a LONG TIME Dudeist Priest Gary M. Silvia, a man who has clearly achieved. If you're already an ordained Dudeist Priest, this is the handbook you've been hungering for. If you're new to all of this and you just wanna know, "what the heck is this all about," this is also the book for you. It's a good read: heartfelt, but light (even when it's serious). To its credit, Gary never claims the book to be the "one true way," or the "be all and end all of Dudeism." He makes it PLAIN that it's incomplete, and that the true essence of Dudeism calls us all to engage in healthy (dare I say zesty) continued exploration of the path of the Dude. Enjoy.

Great book for newly ordained Dudeist Priests or Dudes who are curious about Dudeism. Filled with information about the “world’s slowest growing religion” that is both enlightening and fun. There are explanations as well as scripts to perform basic ceremonies such as weddings and christenings. Also has some great tips for getting pee stains out of your favorite rug. Far out.

A good read
I was going to call this a Dudeist Priest must have, but the whole point of dudeism is that there's no true rules, other than be a positive force, and no required text. So get it if you want or don't. I think it's some kinda eastern thing?

Great text for any Dude's library
This book contains important tid bits that most every Dudeist can use. I found the part about taking naps useful, but that's just, like, my opinion, man.
