Product Description Change by Sons Of The Desert .com The name Sons of the Desert recalls such classic Western harmony groups as Sons of the Pioneers and Riders of the Purple Sage. But the band, which came up on the Texas dancehall circuit in the late '80s, claims it took the name from an old Laurel and Hardy movie. Whatever. Change is the Sons' first release on MCA Nashville after a stillborn 1997 debut for Epic. Lead vocalist Drew Womack cowrote 5 of the 11 tracks, while brother Tim Womack took care of the electric guitar duties--most notably on a twanging, thick-stringed cover of John Hiatt's "Real Fine Love." On the album's best song, "What I Did Right," Drew Womack displays a set of blue-eyed soul pipes worthy of Michael McDonald. But too often Sons of the Desert settles for that bland, marshmallow country-pop sound--spongy on the outside, gooey on the inside--that has characterized contemporary country vocal groups from Alabama to Little Texas. Sometimes the more things Change in Nashville, the more they stay the same. --Rick Mitchell

BOY! WHAT A "CHANGE," BUT A GOOD ONE!
Good album. This one is certainly different than their first, "Whatever Comes First", but more modern & not so much country(but I still prefer their country stuff). I'll always be a SOD fan, and a Drew Womack fan no matter what becomes of their music, but i still like their first album better. And "YES" I'd buy this album again.

Change is good
After three years since they graced us with their debut WHATEVER COMES FIRST, Sons of the Desert returned with another winner, their album CHANGE. The first single "Everybody's Gotta Grow Up Sometime" is a fun upbeat song, perfect summer song. Songs like "I Need To Be Wrong Again", and "Too Far To Where You Are" show the bands romantic sides, and their willingness to write songs about acknowledging mistakes that have been made. "Ride" is a perfect song of escape. The album opens with one of the catchiest songs here, "Goodbye to Hello", a surefire hit expect country radio wont give them the time of day. Other highlights include "Albuquerque", "That's The Kind of Love You're In", "Blue Money" and "What I Did Right". Overall, it would be silly to compare their first album to this one, but they are both worth your while in checking them out. This is what country music is missing, find out for yourself!

"Change" is good
While their previous album played it a bit less safe, the production on Change truly sparkles. And they get to show off their beautiful harmonies more on Change. "Albuquerque" is truly spellbinding! It's so crystal clear and a song that equals their great "Leaving October" from the previous album. Many can relate to the why haven't I reached my dream message of "Everybody's Gotta Grow Up Sometime." It strikes a nerve. The arrangements on that one are rock combined with honky-tonk with a chorus sung like a barroom anthem. "Blue Money" and "Real Fine Love" are more up-tempo songs, and they combine substantive issues with wise perspective. More heartfelt vocals can be found throughout the album, with the spare ballad "That's The Kind Of Love You're In" being a great example.

I'm wearing it out!
Wow! I only just heard Sons of the Desert for the first time as backup to Leann Womack's "I Hope You Dance", but was taken by their talent. So, when I actually heard "What I Did Right" on the radio, while I was on vacation, I knew I had to have this CD, and man, was I right! They have such a beautiful, original, melodic sound that you will never get tired of listening to them. Starting with the first track, "From Goodbye to Hello", I was hooked. It's country without being twangy and so smooth that it's perfect to run in the background of any activity. The title track is poignant and touching without being preachy. I think I might just have to buy another copy. :)

Sons are incredible
I purchased the Sons' first album in 1997 and was thouroughly impressed. They immediately became my favorite band. I was wondering when they were going to release a new project and when I saw the Albuquerque single last summer, I bought it as well. I anxiously awaited the release of their self-titled follow-up and was very disappointed to find out that a disagreement with Epic cancelled its release. I didn't even know they had signed on with MCA, let alone released another album, but when I saw "Change", I immediatley purchased it and was not disappointed. The band is even better than before. My personal favorite song on the album is "I Need to Be Wrong Again." It's a great song and the guys really rock on it. "Too Far To Where You Are," "What I Did Right," and "Everbody's Gotta Grow Up Sometime" are great songs as well. The only disappointing thing is that I have yet to hear a song on the radio off this album. However, as country fans know, what radio says is good and what really is good are usually two different things.

Well done!
Well I don't need to write a long review, simply it is a great cd that is worth the cost! IT not the usual country cd with steal guitar al over just to say that it is "Country"! There are great songs on here! They don't get a lot of radio play because they are not the regular band that has catchy songs that are jsut fluff! SOD play all the music on this cd, they refused to let studio musicians do it because it would be "their sound"! My fav songs on here that are just great well written songs are, "Albuquerque", "To far to where you are", "I need to be wrong again", "thats the kind of love your in", "real fine love", "ride" and "Change"! I think that you'll be very pleased with this cd! I am!

Wake Up Conservative Country Radio
Being a former radio dj i know why great bands like the Sons of The Desert don't get the airplay they deserve..Because country radio station are all playing it safe on the music they add every week, nobody takes a chance and maybe break an artist..This CD is flat out awsome. Being a huge fan of their debut album, this cd improves on the debut disc..To wrap this all up if you have any musical taste, you will drop the money for this cd and i promise you this cd will never leave your deck. Sons are probably the best original thing coming out of Cloneville, TN ..Buy This CD!!! Oh Yeah, the background singing they added to Lee Ann Womak's Song Is the reason that song is such a hit..Great job guys..Hope to see you live again sometime soon......
