The worms are happy
The worms love this mat and burrow right into it. I don't think some of them ever leave. It deteriorates over time because they eat it, but for my bin I get two uses out of one mat by cutting it into pieces. What I really like about it is the moisture level is so much better by using the mat under the newspaper.

Winter worm bin matt.
It makes a great winter blanket for the worm bin, and they do devour it over time. It can also be used to grow wheat grass.
