Our American chart hits series now reaches 1954 and includes 25 classic tracks all of which reached the top on the American Hot 100. Rock and Roll was still a couple of years away and American pop music remained as king of the hill. This album presents the very best from a strong year and the track listing speaks for itself. The album starts with the stirring sounds of Eddie Fisher's Oh Mein Papa, and covers all aspects of early 50's pop with The Happy Wanderer, Stranger in Paradise and This Ole House. A lovely collection of tracks, from pop to light country, with the orchestral and the quirky, all finding a place side by side. The album also shows the increasing popularity and influence of TV in American culture and artists crossing from one medium to the other. With extensive notes featuring details of every song and performer this will be as popular as all the other volumes.

I LOVE THIS SERIES
All 25 songs on this volume were tremendous hits and are ones usually found on compilations for the greatest hits of the '50's. There is one truly hard-to-find one, however, Archie Bleyer's version of "Hernando's Hideaway." Other versions are usually used. The sound quality on this CD is as good as on any compilation I have heard costing much more. And at its low price, this CD is a real steal.(See my reviews of the other 5 volumes in this series.)Track Listing:1. Oh My Papa; 2. Secret Love; 3. Make Love To Me; 4. Wanted; 5. Little Things Mean A Lot; 6. Three Coins In The Fountain; 7. Sh-Boom; 8. Hey There; 9. This Old House; 10. I Need You Now; 11. Mister Sandman; 12. Young At Heart (Sinatra); 13. Cross Over The Bridge; 14. Hernando's Hideaway; 15. The Little Shoemaker; 16. Stranger In Paradise (Bennett); 17. Hold My Hand; 18. If I Give My Heart To You (Doris Day); 19. Skokiaan; 20. Changing Partners; 21. If You Love Me (Starr); 22. The Happy Wanderer; 23. Papa Loves Mambo; 24. Chapel In The Moonlight (Kallen); 25. Here.

" Stranger in Paradise" (vintage Tony Bennett) and "The Happy Wanderer. " "Skokian" is another fine addition
The collection arrived in a timely manner and in mint condition. It is well worth it if only for "This Ole House," "Hernando's Hideaway," Stranger in Paradise" (vintage Tony Bennett) and "The Happy Wanderer." "Skokian" is another fine addition. But I have one big objection on track number ten. It does not sound anything like Eddie Fisher. It's all right as I have what I believe is the correct version. Still it needs to be noted. At any rate I'm proud to have this collection. Thanks to one and all.

Loved this CD
Loved this CD, got it for my Mom's 60th Birthday and we jammed to it all night. It was very reminiscent of her parents, and old school innocent music. LOVE it, especially Papa Loves Mambo! & anything by Rosemary Clooney!

They loved it! It was so much easier than trying ...
We played the CD during my parents' 60th wedding anniversary party. They loved it! It was so much easier than trying to find songs from 1954 on my own and putting them together. The sound quality is excellent.

For some reason it is hard to find a greatest hits album specifically for the year 1954
For some reason it is hard to find a greatest hits album specifically for the year 1954. This was one of the few I could find. None of them were in digital/downloadable format.

60th Wedding Gift
I got this for my inlaws in celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary! They loved it! It started a conversation about the dances they went to and the music they danced to. Thanks!

1954 CD set - best bang for the buck
Bargain price for 1954 CD set. Songs are by the original artists. Most are in mono, some are in stereo. Sound good.
