Review for ROASTING GREEN COFFEE BEANS - does a fine job for small batches 8oz or less!
Great for a low-cost green coffee bean roasting solution. I have to say, it's well worth $65 just for roasting small batches of beans. That said - it's obviously not designed for coffee bean roasting. I also have a Behmor 1600 dedicated coffee bean roaster. The Gourmia isn't able to reach high enough temperature, and it doesn't rotate beans in an even manner in order to get a consistent and properly cracked bean, like the Behmor 1600 does. But again - for $65, if you want to roast small batches (5-7oz) of beans at a time - it's easier and more convenient than pan roasting or convectional oven roasting in my opinion.I got this the Gourmia to compare to other simple, cheap home-roasting methods. For comparison, pan and oven roasting is basically free if you have any kitchen hardware. The Behmor 1600 coffee roaster can be found for $250-350. The geek in me wanted to play around with this $65 rotisserie because it has all the tools to roast beans (including the rotary drum).I'll update more later if I continue using it with beans (the Behmor is just way better), but here's initial observations after a few batches: - Interior temp sits around 320-350F. The 575F claim is a bit off - the 2 heating rods might get to that temp, but not the air temp in the roaster. Air temp at top of roaster near the glass never got over 320F, and it sat around 375F just above the heating rods at the bottom. Since the drum rotates in one direction, the beans basically hover over only one of the heating rods - this is the biggest limitation with this design. Because the beans receive direct heat from only one rod, I believe this is an underpowered unit for roasting beans - but again, it's fine for small batches. - 10oz beans (ethiopia harrar) took around 40 minutes and the roast was uneven. The roast seemed to plateau (it didn't seem to change much between 40-45 minutes) - first crack didn't really even happen - the beans just looked roasted and finished - I quickly learned this device can only handle small roasts. - 5-7oz of green beans seems like the sweet spot on this roaster - taking 18-25 minutes to city roast. - after turning heat element off, it cools down in about 10-15 minutes to touch, and will continue to rotate without heat on which is nice. - doesn't produce too much smoke, but it does slightly smoke, mostly because of the chaffe that falls onto the bottom tray (some touches the heating elements) - there are 2 heating elements on the bottom near the sides, hovering just above the removable bottom tray (made to catch dripping oil from meat). I believe this is a 1000W unit, so I'm guessing 400-500W per rod (compared to the Behmor 1600 watts, utilizing two 525W glass heating rods on one side of the unit, with the rotating drum moving the beans over those 2 heating rods...trust me the Behmor pumps out way more heat) - the red metal exterior sides get HOT - it's definitely not insulated - it's a single layer of metal on the outside, so watch out. But it does retain enough heat for smaller batches. - I'm considering cutting a hole in the back side of the metal to point a heat gun into it - then I think it could handle 10-16oz of beans - I'm sure it'll improve the roasting, but then you won't be able to hear the bean cracks. - Bean visibility is okay - the mesh on the drum is pretty fine. It's easy to see the bean color in daylight, but not at night using a flashlight. The Behmor visibility is perfect with their interior light - very easy to see the transitioning color.Overall, totally awesome for $65 if you want a cheap and simple way to roast beans - but if you really want to experiment with perfect roasting, the Behmor 1600 is superior.

Does not work as described.
I tried to cook 4 different things with this, using each one of the accessories, and everything took way longer than expected; two were complete fails and had to finish cooking in my conventional oven.Pork loin, egg rolls, chicken nuggets, and French friesFirst of all the metal doors that enclose around the rotisserie handle are faulty and do NOT stay closed. They work their way open and release all the hot air.The second problem with this Gourmia GEO3000 Rotisserie Grill & Oven is that the thermometer does NOT work. This could have something to do with the door mechanism, but the heating elements rapid cycle on and off the entire time. The hottest temperature reading I could get inside of the rotisserie was 140℉. When I used toothpicks to jam the door mechanism closed from the top (don’t try that), the rotisserie heated up to a maximum of 325℉. Both of these tests were done after I realized the elements were not working correctly and I set the rotisserie on the highest setting, 525℉.The third problem I encountered was that as the rotisserie would turn, it would unscrew the handle on all the accessories baskets and that would make the basket pop off of the handle. When I realized this, I tried to get the rotisserie to rotate in the other direction so it would not unscrew the handle. That did not work either. The handle rotated off the track as if it was not made to rotate in that direction.Don’t waste your time.

Great device. Perfect for home roasting coffee!
The Gourmia quickly reached 525 degrees and cycled at that temperature just fine. I had it on the patio on an overcast, wind free, 50 degree day. I am experiencing the same issue with the door that closes around the rotisserie shaft but it does not keep the oven from maintaining set point nor does it affect cooking quality. With a heavy load like a basket of wings, it probably wouldn't do that. I was able to seat the shaft so the door stayed closed but I had to be "intentional" about it. That issue took the 5th star away. It seems to be a friction problem and I'll see how it progresses over time. It could get better as the metal wears into the slot or it could get worse. The quality of the product is fine for the price. As good as I'd hoped for. Cleaning is easy with the top glass door, side and bottom pans being removable. You can just pop them in the dishwasher if desired. The inside end panels (including the moving shaft doors) will probably get gunked up if you are cooking things that splatter, like chicken. I don't think you'll find many regular chickens that will easily fit but squabs and game hens will work fine. Overall it's a great counter top device. Not sure I would put a Filet Mignon in this but it does get hot enough for a true "roast".FYI, I highly recommend this for home roasting coffee which is what I bought it for. I just ran 2 batches of a Sumatra Mountain coffee bean through it. 200 grams to start. 525 temp. 31 minutes gave me nice evenly roasted dark bean to 2nd crack. French roast for sure. Dropped that to 26 minutes for a City(+?) roast. Being able to turn off the heat and leave the rotisserie turning makes for a perfect cool down in 30 minutes with the door open. The basket also separated the chaff so I didn't have to. It just fell through the mesh into the drip tray. When wife said she wants to use it for food, I told her no!Update 1/21/18:I've roasted a dozen batches of raw coffee through this device. No changes from my previous opinions except about the door on the rotisserie shaft...I found the secret to keeping it closed! Right leaf to center, Left leaf toward outside.Update 3/4/18:I like it more and more. Changing to 5 stars. The door stays closed when I pull the shaft left once inserted. Front door toward center and overlaps rear section.

Don't waste your money!
We did a pork tenderloin - over an hour at 475F and the center still was not at 160F and the surface looked like we had boiled the tenderloin (no browning, no crust just anemic looking meat). We had to finish the tenderloin in the microwave. The temp dial had resistance as I turned until about 425F and then the resistance disappeared to 500F. Did the oven ever reach 475F? I doubt it because as I took the tenderloin out of the basket (the spit has no taper on the end which makes it difficult to push through meat), I was holding the meat in my BARE hands. Needless to say, we're returning it.

Temperature not as advertised
I thought this would be a good purchase to roast coffee in as it includes a rotisserie cage and claims a max temperature of 525F. But I put a temperature sensor inside of it and i was only getting about 400F near the elements (less at the cage). As such it made a terrible coffee roaster as you couldn't even hear the beans crack. The issue is they installed a 315F thermal fuse in this machine which ensures it won't get to 525 despite whatever the thermostat is set to. I gutted the control mechanisms (timer, thermostat, thermal fuse) of this and replaced it with a $20 PID temperature controller, and now I am getting the 525F I needed and the coffee is cracking loudly and fully roasted in like 7 minutes for 200g.

Poor quality. 2.5lb. Chicken would not fit. Took 45 min. To cook fries on highest setting.
