One star
Good heavy metal and galvanization. After installation I found issues. The camming devices for locking the segments together broke and I had to have new ones shipped to me. These did not securely lock the segments together so I had to drill and insert a bolt through each joint. After I put the pole up it was crooked and I have not been able to correct it.

KEEPER! This thing is BUILT to withstand Ozark storms and wind!
I accidentally ordered a round pole for my S&H Martin House. It was 15 ft. I forgot and a couple of days later ordered this 12 ft Tri-tel pole. Once I realized what had occured I contacted the seller but the shipment was already on the way. They graciously said to refuse the shipment or return it AT THEIR COST. I figured out I could use an adapter to get the taller pole to work with the martin house for about $15. I had already installed the round telescoping pole from another manufacturer and though it was tall an relatively sturdy galvanized steel . It was a pain to assemble as the "locks" for each section weren't exactly as simple to install as the "instructions" (if you call them that) said.Once the the tri-tel pole arrived I wasn't home so I decided to have a look at it. I wasted my $ on the round pole. It is now going to be a flag pole or whatever else I can use it for. and the TRI-TEL is going up. The thickness of the aluminium side-walls of this product is absolutely amazing. I'm going to set a round pole in the ground to achieve the 15' height I wanted and slide the Tri-pole in but DEFINITELY use this for my bird house .Built better, LOOKS better!

cheesey locking mechanism
pole is a pole and seems plenty sturdy for the use. The "locking" mechanism is basically a friction lock. its not a positive spring button lock or a bolt through a hole type of telescoping pole. So will see this season how well that works.Came with "free" birdhouse gourd hanging rods, unfortunately this came with 2 sets of brackets, but none of the nuts for the enclosed bolts. Discovered this the day I'm putting up the house.

Modify this pole and it will do the job
I bought this for a 12 hole S&K plastic purple martin house. I was wary because of the reviews, but I couldn't resist the used price for one. The unit came in good condition and as I suspected, the sections had burrs on them from when they were sawed from the factory. I used Emory cloth and cleaned up the sections smooth and the pole now extends and retracts as it should. I didn't like the locking devices for the sections because they distort the tubing to form a lock, so i drilled holes and installed 1/4" bolts with nuts on each section. Now I have a nice telescoping pole to raise and lower my martin house. I should say I marked each section at 6" instead of 4" that they recommend. I lose 6" of total height but this gives total pole length better stability in my opinion.

Buyer beware! Terrible quality control. Stay away!
Let me just say that I really regret purchasing this telescoping pole. I dread every time I have to put it up and down. In my case, the bottom two sections of pole work fine - they are flanged a bit on the top and the poles telescope properly and easily. The locking mechanism isn't great but I got it to work. However, the top pole is a mess. The outside of the pole is VERY rough and the section below it is not flanged so getting those two pieces to telescope takes A LOT of effort. It's really frustrating and actually rather horrible. I thought I was going to give myself a heart attack one day trying to telescope the top pole out of the second pole. I'm not kidding! It's that hard to pull in and out! And I'm a young(ish) guy! To add insult to injury the pole that the top pole goes into is not flanged at the top which makes it even TIGHTER.I love the idea of the telescoping pole. If all of the sections were properly produced this would be a 5-star product. As it is, the quality control is seriously lacking. Buyer beware! Stay away!

Great quality steel and height; poor connecting system which renders telescoping capability obsolete.
Purchased two of the poles for bird house mounting.1. Love the height. 15' feet is a great height for mounting bird houses.2. Great quality. Heavy duty steel. If you properly install the sleeve into the ground (we didn't use cement), even without cement (and depending upon the weight of your house) it is very sturdy.3. Assembly. This is tricky. Despite the claim of an "innovative design" that "locks pole into place for desired height", it is basically a curved piece of metal that when bent, is supposed to put pressure on the upper pole to keep it in place. The problem is . . . if this piece, which rotates about 40 degrees, once clicked into place doesn't STAY in place, the pole sections will fall into each other and your bird house (or whatever is mounted) risks being damaged. None of the 6 metal pieces provided to hold our pole sections into place worked. None of them. However, since we liked the height and quality of the materials of this pole, once our metal pieces were put into place and clicked over, we wrapped heavy duty masking tape around them so that it was forced to stay in place. Unfortunately, this meant that the telescoping capability of our pole was obsolete. So - if we want to clean them, we will have to remove the entire pole.Buy this pole for its heavy duty quality and height.

I haven't used it yet
I haven't put up my Martin house yet to use this pole. I did take it out of the box and put it together and it seems to work very well. It's light and easy to put together. I will write another rating next year when I finally do get the Martin house installed in it's permanent home out in my yard. But I think it will work just fine.

Awesome product, easy install, sturdy support
Dig a hole, pour concrete/insert sleeve, mount birdhouse to pole and insert pole. Easy install. Sturdy support for our Purple Martin house. Great height to keep birds safe, and telescoping pole and lock system is to great take house down for cleaning/maintenance. Highly reccomend.

Purple Martin Bird House
Excellent Purple Martin bird house. It did take us some time to put it all together. But we are thrilled with the finished product.

Poor fit and finish.
Decent gauge steel, though poor fit and finish. Because of that, the poles do not easily telescope. I have yet to figure out how the key system works. No instructions included or found on the internet. Frustrating.

Sucks, dont buy
Poles are so tight its near impossible to get the thing to extend after being stored for the winter.
