If loving yoga shorts is wrong, I don't wanna be right
I'm a runner who's recently taken up doing yoga at my local YMCA. I figured that since I had plenty of running shorts and shirts, clothing wouldn't be an issue. Wrong. Since I have a tendency to sweat, typical running t-shirts get wet fast, and there's nothing more unpleasant than a mouthful of wet cotton when doing a downward facing dog. The shirts I've found to be ideal are the subject of another review elsewhere. But I'm here to talk about my prAna JD Shorts. The first thing I found when trying to find yoga clothes for men is that there just aren't a whole lot of choices. Running shorts are either too baggy or too short, tending toward either more fabric than you want during a particular asana, or a "big reveal" when it's least desired. I found these prAna shorts on Amazon, read the generally positive reviews, and decided to give them a shot. From the moment I first put them on, I was sold. Although they don't have a drawstring (which, I think, would be a good addition to any 2.0 version), they are very secure. The fabric is wonderfully soft, and just stretchy enough to "give" but not so clingy that nothing is left to the imagination, if you get my meaning. There is no inner liner, so some sort of undergarment is in order; I like a pair of moisture-wicking briefs. These shorts are the next best thing to performing asanas in the buff, without all the embarrassing public nudity arrests. They are tight enough that nothing gets between you and your poses, yet not so clingy that you feel on-display in mixed company. I love my prAna shorts so much I immediately purchased a second pair. They're comfortable to wear even if you don't do yoga, but if you do, I encourage you to give them a try. You too may fall in love with your shorts. No one else has to know....

Well made for sweating; check the size! Recommended!!
First off, I was looking for a pair of yoga shorts, boxer cut, for my new hot yoga class. I had considered something more like running shorts but after looking around a tighter fitting pair became my focus; I didn't want something super slim and trim that some of the younger guys wear - here's my thinking and experience. I wanted something that clung to my body and grabbed the sweat, something that was stretchy, and something that gave me enough room for my junk in the front and back and handled my little bit of belly. I can tell you after using this pair for a week, I bought a second pair. The style is good, the stretchy-ness is good, the shorts cling to my thighs and don't ride up. I have a bit of a dad bod with a small belly and the elastic in the waist seems to be about perfect - it gently rolls over when it needs to in various postures and isn't too tight. I checked their sizing chart (yes I measured myself) and probably could have gone with a Medium, but I wanted something a bit "looser" so I didn't have any pinching in the front or back areas. I don't have a big thighs or butt, but I do like just an extra bit of room in the front. Yes, your junk will show in the front but given the color is black nothing really stands out too much, so don't be self conscious about it in a hot yoga class where everyone is sweating. So, I ordered a Large - just fyi, in a men's walking shorts, I wear about a 32-34 waist. The Large turned out great - it fits in all the right places for me - thighs, belly, butt, and front - and it collects plenty of sweat. Yes, they are soaked when I'm done; I toss them in the wash with the other yoga stuff etc and let the shorts air dry. So far, so good!

Great Workout Shorts
Fit's well, is comfortable, stays put, looks good, and has held up for the past 7 months being used weekly for Zumba and Pilates. Looks like they did when I first bought them. Very happy with them. I have a 33" waist and the medium fit me perfectly. The only negative is the price is a little higher than the same type of shorts from Yoga Addicts, which are equal in quality and comfortable as well. I've had a pair of those a month longer and there is little difference between the two in look, feel, and performance. Either one is a good buy.

Perfect shorts for Bikram or any hot yoga
As many reviewers have said, it is really difficult to find shorts for men that are designed specifically for the demands of hot yoga. After a year of wearing regular swim trunks (board shorts) to class, I knew it was time to invest in proper clothing. Man, what a difference! These shorts keep me so much cooler, and I don't have to constantly adjust the shorts, peel them off my sweaty legs, etc. These stretch perfectly so I can get fully into the poses, and the tight leg openings eliminate any risk of flashing my neighbors. I know some other guys wear tiny square-cut swim shorts to class, but those are a little smaller than I'm comfortable with. These cover me just enough to preserve my dignity, but allow me to perform comfortably. When I tried them on, I struggled a little bit with deciding if I was going to wear them solo, or with some kind of briefs beneath. I tried both ways, and I strongly recommend wearing them solo. They're form fitting, yes, but not indecently so, and they are much more comfortable without another layer beneath. I am very pleased with this product. Thank you prAna! I'm a 34" waist, and the mediums fit me perfectly.

Cotton to Synthetic?
I have worn these shorts for years. The first two pairs I have are/were great. Really comfortable, stretchy, snug and made from cotton. The new ones are nearly all synthetic and are way too tight, like a compression sock. Why did they change? I'm not looking for a spank. I even called Prana and the customer rep was 0 help.

Amazing -- and still amazing three years later!
Three years, 300+ hot yoga classes later, I just ordered two more pairs on sale for $38CAD! They're really really good, still stay put, moisture pulls away but they don't stink and dry reasonably quickly. After all this use, they've gotten a bit looser in the junktaculars and there's some minor discoloration in there, like a beige-ey patch where the magic yoga pixie dust has rubbed off. Maybe the thigh cuffs are stretched a bit as well, waist still holds in place well. Still a perfectly usable pair that I'll keep around as backup!Original review:Used once at hot yoga and I'm in love. They fit true, don't shift or bunch, comfortable, durable yet light for sweat. The seam down the front isn't a bother unless your boys somehow stick out front and center? Waistband is a bit thick and high, shows off more muffintop than abs/Adonis belt, if you care.

Great Hot Yoga Shorts
I haven't had these for long, but so far they are outstanding yoga shorts for Bikram Yoga. Really comfortable and a great fit. Also keeps everything where it should be and no need to adjust.

Great short
This is the first time I've bought yoga apparel online. These are great shorts, they're a perfect fit, they're functional and comfortable. They keep their shape and support in the more difficult yoga poses and you don't over-heat in them either.

Perfect fit and comfortable
I bought another one - that about sums it up. Easy to put on, fit right in waist and thigh, hold well in place during workouts
