Had high expectations and was NOT disappointed.
I bought the kiln hoody and wick boxers as my first few things from first lite. I had high expectations on them as its all you see online. Everyone claims FL has the best base layers out there. Having come from cheap walmart stuff.... the FL seemed expensive and like a waste of money...boy was i wrong. The value is reflected with the cost, both are high. After using my kiln for over a year i can say its my favorite part of my kit. If i feel like being comfortable i will have my kiln hoody on and wick boxers. I now only wear first lite and i am very impressed with the fit and comfort. Its hard to understand how nice merino is until you get some good quality merino. If its not you stay cool, if its cold you stay warm. The only dislike about all merino is the wet sheep smell you get once you start getting wet, but thats all merino. Otherwise there is nothing bad to say about how my kiln has held up in the last year.

a favorite all-round base layer and loungewear
Unsurpassed for comfort. High quality fabric that resists pilling (although I make sure to follow the wash instructions religiously because wool does need more TLC than synthetics or mixed fabrics). I'd like to find a heavier-weight version by this same manufacturer for colder weather and will order one if available.

Over priced hype
I can put this and a pair of gloves in my pants cargo pocket. Hood is worthless. This is adult size pajama thin. I should have read the description better.

Could be a bit softer. Would give 4.5 if I could.
I thought it would be a nice smooth to the touch feel on bare skin. It is still a bit coarse. If it were just a smidge softer to the touch I would give it 5 stars. On the other hand, it was very durable and kept my neck/head warm last season. I wore a T-shirt underneath most of the time and it was fine. Huge plus is blood washes out easily in cold water. I do think it helps with the scent control. I harvested three last year with this on. I’m a medium build and it fit great. Either I’m getting better as a bow hunter or this is my ninja outfit from now on. The thumb holes work well to cover the wrists. The Camo pattern is deadly in the fall. I didn’t even wear Camo pants and I was successful.

Not worth the money
I purchased this hoody for hiking the Appalacian trail in winter. I used it for a month (a little over 200 miles.) It's soft and very comfortable. I appreciated the hood, thumb hole cuffs and the extra long venting zipper. The reason it got a lackluster rating is it began pilling/fraying heavily at the seams. In the end I feel it wasn't any warmer than a $25 polyester fleece hoody, which would have been lighter, easier to care for and more durable. FYI, the manufacturer recommends hand washing and never using a cloths dryer, which I violated and probably caused my wear issues. A big motivator for purchasing wool was the stink. I've also discovered that really only applies to your underlayer. Jackets don't develop a B.O. stench so much, so spending the extra money wasn't needed.

Love This Hoody!!!
I wear this thing everyday! Wash it every so here and there. Very comfortable. Have used it as a top layer with 2 long sleeve shirts in 20 degree weather and was just fine. Wear it with a t shirt underneath down to 45. Very stretchy. Great for layering. Hood fits perfect. Wicks sweat nicely. The only bad thing I personally don’t like it how long it takes to dry once it’s soaked. It’ll dry quickly but feel damp for a long while. Probably be good for warmer months (which I haven’t used it any season but winter) overall 9/10 from me.
