Enthralling!
The title of the novel is a little misleading, because the main character, Rosa, spends a relatively short time in Paris but it is the place where her highly successful career as a' haute couture' designer begins, mentored by Dior himself. Hers is a 'rags to riches' story, which takes her as a teenager from a small village in the Tyrol during WW2 via Paris and Brazil and eventually to New York. She recounts the story of her life to a female who is not identified till the end of the novel. There is an element of luck in Rosa's success but it is mainly due to her incredible work ethic and attention to every detail. The author gives us a fascinating insight into the changing world of high fashion over decades. Along the way Rosa finds love but there is also heartbreak which continues to haunt her throughout her life. The novel is very well written and I would recommend it to other readers.

Beautifully crafted novel of one woman's search to find herself
A beautifully crafted novel that draws the reader across the world from the Italian Alps of World War II to Paris, Rio and New York - from sexual attack to the world of high fashion and success. It is heart rending, spellbinding and enthralling and the reader can almost feel the sensual gloss of the fabrics at Dior, smell the perfume of success and hear every jazz chord in its haunting melancholy.. A story narrated by the main protagonist whose search for love and forgiveness tinges every action she takes and every thought she has. A truly wonderful novel.

Wonderfully absorbing read!
I very much enjoyed this absorbing novel Although following the adventure as it sprawls across three continents is a good bit of escapism in these locked-down times, it’s the a wonderful, relatable simplicity to the narrative that is this novels strong point. The author captures well not just the story of the dressmaker herself, but the predicament of a whole generation of Europeans, tinged both by war and humanity itself.Definitely recommended.

This book
I truly loved this book and could hardly set it down.I loved how the author wrote the story starting with the different use of cosmetics perfume etc and the reason behind each item and also relating her story to someone who turned out to be her daughter.A heart breaking story but a great story.

A captivating story -- must read!
I could not put this book down. The central character, Rosa, is captivating and her life story fascinating. There is drama, determination, tragedy, and humour. Rosa is a complex heroine whose life takes you from Tyrol to Brazil to New York and many places in between. Georgia Kaufmann is a gifted story teller and by the end you want nothing more than to be with her characters and dwell in the world that she creates.

A brilliant read - compelling, funny, honest
I absolutely loved this book and devoured it in a couple of days. I found it a fantastic read - funny, touching, clever - and Rosa was such a unique and wonderful central character. The glorious descriptions of the Alps, Paris, Rio and New York just cry out to be made into a film and I can’t wait to see it on screen. Strongly recommend!
