At this point I have completed the Word portion of the course--pretty good!
I'm really decades out of touch with word-processing and publishing technology and have been increasingly aggravated by that fact. So I got this set of courses for my Microsoft Home on Mac, figuring I would use the Word and PowerPoint courses now and might use the other courses when I have the access and/or need.It was disappointing that the courses are not available as Mac-specific (although this is rare, hence my purchase), especially when the test questions sometimes pertain to elements that are not relevant to Mac, only to Windows (and so were already discarded from my mind). That said, for elements that ARE on Mac but appear somewhere else than they do on Windows, you can either search for them in "Help" or look for YouTube videos on them. And the effort made to find the alternatives may very well help you remember things better. However, I'm good at researching, and this added barrier might prove too cumbersome for some. There is also the wasted time when it comes to features that simply don't exist on Mac. If you're toggling between Word and Mac at home and office, it may be good to have seen someone do things on Windows anyway. For me, there were numerous moments in the course where I "finally" discovered how to do an activity more effectively (or to do it at all) after years of frustration, having known I was using Word in an absurdly convoluted manner. I also learned about many tools that would be appropriate for an office environment if my situation allowed for that form of employment in the future. The course is aiming to "cover it all" in some fashion or another, which has pros and cons. Sometimes topics are presented without offering any basic comprehension of why you might want to use that tool at some point or are missing some connecting info that would be absolutely key for a beginner somewhere in the process. But I can understand that different users come to these courses with different assumptions and needs. And to have really drawn out all of the connections PLUS covered all the advanced commands would have made some already-lengthy extras too lengthy, I imagine. I took those points in the lessons primarily as pointers toward what exists in the program and how much more there is to learn but also how achievable it would be in a context where one is regularly using interactive forms, advanced mail merge features, and so on. Also, if you're paying attention, you start to see patterns in how Word usually works in advanced features, and that should make patterns easier to recognize in future practice.I found that one chapter--that on tab stops--skipped over the basic premise and layered in all the extra details so thoroughly that I needed to look at a YouTube video to see how it would work (and that is a useful tool even for beginners; it's simply a weak point in the program, IMO). It didn't help that tab stops look very different on Mac.I completed the Word course online and really wish this came with a lifetime online access rather than only one year. Also, the videos are slow to load even on a super-speedy connection. Often that won't matter if you're noodling around in a document trying out tools from the last video you saw or taking notes. But sometimes it is a bit annoying. However, I never received error messages. All the videos DID function... in time.Although I tried to pay attention to everything in the course, I was especially looking for tools that I could use now or in the near future, recognizing that I'm not likely to remember some of the content where I have no possible thing to apply it to in the immediate future. Therefore, I do expect that I will be reviewing some of the videos at some point and just wish I could always do so online. It's not like most computers today even come with CD players! And if you have to attach them to your laptop via a corded CD player, that's a really messy set up. I trust my CD will work when I finally test that out (I just saw a review where that's an issue!).The quizzes were one question long and were easy for me except when they were about Windows-specific commands. The test was a little trickier, seemingly focusing on curious details at times. But honestly, you can take the same test more than once, and it was easy to ace on the second try. This also, however, means that employers cannot trust this certificate to mean an employee has really paid attention or even that they have watched all the videos. They could potentially just learn the right answers to quizzes and tests. But I suppose most such online courses are like that. And the application and deep learning of these tools is really most likely to occur in the office. The course makes you aware of every tool that is there and helps orient you toward them. It also offers some warnings about ways for documents to go sideways. But many of the tricky bits will only become apparent in use.I made a point of working examples of many of the tools covered into a document of notes I was typing up. For instance, I inserted icons, pictures, shapes, and word art into my notes. This way I have some initial practice with various components of the course. I was also happy to make a couple of templates and a macro for myself that I'll be using frequently. And really it's that kind of user application that will determine the level of knowledge one gains from the course. The certificate is a nice motivational factor and something that I was specifically looking for in a course. It doesn't appear to come in a version that you can readily attach to something like a LinkedIn account. I did, however, screenshot my certificate after printing, in case that image would be useful at some point.I'm so relieved to be oriented better in Word and to start to stretch my mind to encompass its more advanced possibilities, should the time come to use those. Since I'm dealing with an illness that substantially hinders memory and cognition and since I'm so far behind in technology compared to most Americans, I think it's safe to say that this course is suitable for an average intellect while still familiarizing folks with the existence of many advanced features. Not having the course available permanently online is extra frustrating in light of the aforementioned illness's effects. However, just knowing that the different tools exist and what they're called means I could look up YouTube videos on them in addition to referencing the CD in the future. When making this purchase and comparing the course to others, I put a lot of weight on the laminated reference guides as a deciding pro. The type is so tiny, however, and the guides so full of window's specific commands that I'm not sure how likely I am to ever really be referencing them. I also feel like the info that I'm most likely to need refreshers on is more in the "advanced detail" range than the guides are. So I wouldn't much weight on those guides if I were making this purchase now.As for pacing yourself, it's really hard to know in advance which chapters you might need to spend many hours in and which ones could be completed in a fraction of an hour. Perhaps it would be good if they listed the actual video lengths for each section, although the time you will or won't need to absorb and noodle with that section is another significant factor.

Rapidly shipped internationally but not working good at all
Rapidly shipped my MS Office software training DVD internationally to my recipient in the Philippines. But, the DVD failed to work and thr alernative option of training from within their web site where we had to select and activate the various training modules proved far to complicated. I would not recommend this product to anyone at this time.
