5 Metre Pack of Defender Narrow Plastic Bird Spikes

Very simple installation.
A while ago our local railway bridge was meshed over on the underside to stop the pigeons roosting there. Presumably the council got fed up with having to steam clean the pavements underneath every week to remove the droppings. Unfortunately the displaced flock had to find new stomping grounds to wreak their havoc and one of their favourite spots seems to be my garden fence. After weeks of cleaning their mess off of our garden bench and rhododendron I decided to give these spikes a go - so simple to install with cable ties. Whilst I was fitting them the pigeons were watching me from next door's roof and I could see them thinking 'Boll**ks!'

Keeping the pigeons away!
Arrived next day with Prime one day delivery and I installed these spikes straight away. I decided I needed to purchase some spikes as the pigeons outside my window were becoming quite brazen. They've taken to landing on my window sills, eyeing me through the window and one even pecked at my plant, it was virtually inside my property! Anyway I saw these plastic spikes and thought they'd do the job. I needed plastic as my windows open outwards so would inevitably hit the spikes and it made no sense for me to attach to the window itself as there would be no deterrent when the window is open. Fortunately these plastic spikes were easy enough for me to snip about an inch and half off the tip in order that the window opened without snapping the spikes off (and yes that already happened!) the spikes are not flexible, they are hard plastic. Shame there isn't a flexible plastic variety. Cutting some of the spikes slightly shorter so far has not had less effect. If needed, i would advise snipping to the desired height before gluing down. Applying the glue and spikes to the window sill wasn't too difficult. The row of spikes where the glue is placed however is very narrow. This is the only fiddly bit and then applying it onto the window sill. The No Nails waterproof glue I purchased took a while to dry but fundamentally it stuck the spikes in place well. I think the base of the spikes strip could have been made a bit wider especially for using glue but it hasn't hindered the application.Whilst installing the spikes the pigeons have tried to land and are immediately deterred so in that respect this product is working well. Aesthetically, as the spikes are made from a slightly opaque plastic they don't look too bad and not as severe as metal would be.

Stops the poo safely
I chose these spikes rather than metal ones as I quite like the fact they would simply snap off rather than impale someone should an accident happen. I bought these to go on top of wooden swing set which was getting COVERED in pigeon poo! They are actually quite flimsy (which is a good thing) as they are only to stop birds landing and I have to say it's worked perfectly. Been up for weeks and not one drop since! The pack is a good length, I just tacked mine Into the timber through one of the many holes (be careful using hammer as I missed and broke one spike off!) But overall they are descrete, safer than metal and work perfectly. Get them.

Don't think twice - these are the deterrent you need!
These really are the dogs danglies when it comes to pigeon deterrents. Just make sure you stick your rows close together and leave no gaps at the ends - those flying rats will happily squeeze into any gap if it provides them with a place to rest.Since I put these on my window ledges & balcony railings, the pigeons have stayed away from those areas. Result!(Top tip - it's much easier to use a sealant gun & apply the glue from the industrial-sized sealant-gun tube of glue. The small tubes of glue are VERY hard to squeeze & control the flow).

Does the job it's designed to do
Perfect for the job of keeping the pigeons off of your fence etc. Surprisingly obtrusive, given that they are clear plastic material, but that's the compromise you have to accept - a long line of theses thing sticking up, or pigeon muck all down your newly painted fence panels! Not sure I agree that gluing on, or screwing the only fixing method, as I used small non-corroding nails on mine, as this was more practical. I don't think the ones I received were not as displayed, as these are straight line as opposed to the zigzag configuration I saw. However, this doesn't seem to be a issue, as you get the coverage lengthways, if not quite the same width ways, which could mean you have to fit two sections on a wide ledge as opposed to only one. Nice and easy to split as the have convenient break points in them, so there's no need for a saw or knife to separate a section where it is too long for the ledge or fence top.One tip. If you have any trellis work that is above the fence line, don't continue on the fence, put spike on trellis, as birds will still sit on trellis if they can avoid top of spikes! Always go for the highest point of the area belong protected, even if it doesn't look quite as neat and tidy.Instruction video, interesting, but not really sure it's needed, given how simple these things are to install, but good on him for taking the time to do it, as some people may find it more helpful to see a demo than read a bit of paper.
