and a good overview of basic Maya
Overall all it is well organized, and a good overview of basic Maya. The main problem, and it is a major problem for a tutorial based book, less than half of the downloaded project files actually work. Most of the scenes load, but do not show any of the objects in the view port. I was able to use some of the other scenes that did load and try the examples using this other scene, but this does not work for all examples.I am pretty new to Maya but I also have completed many other tutorials, and am familiar with the various ways to hide and unhide objects in the view port, but I am unable to resolve this issue in most of the scenes. If anyone else is able to get them all to work please let me know.

Not very creative...
The text only presents a basic function on how to perform the particular action as opposed to presenting an understanding what the functions are and why they would be used in one instance or another. for instance, there are pages that show how to use a basic function of a nurbs surface, but does not explain what a nurbs surface is.It feels as if the author copied the material from the help files and compiled them into a book.

I have no idea why my professors recommended this book
I have no idea why my professors recommended this book! They taught me the entire book in 2 classes and I learned more then what the book was teaching in one lesson on Lydia.Com...Director CMack

Not at all as good as Kelly's 3ds max book
I have Kelly L. Murdock's Autodesk 3ds Max 2017 Complete Reference so am disappointed that this book costs more and is half the size. I hear you say that this is a basics guide and the max book is a complete guide. Sixty quid is way too much for this book.
