Deer were dining on our roses. cypress shrub and flowers. We tried an older version of this deer scarer and found that it did work in keeping them out from the areas near the scarer. I have recommended this to friends. Just ordered 2 more so we will have four.I think the reason for the lower Amazon star rating is that the product lists all kinds of animals and birds that it repels. This shot gun approach to marketing is hurting the best feature -- deer hate the annoying high pitch screeching sound and flashing lights. One of our contractors was in the back yard and he set off the scarer and he thought it was a car alarm.The main thing to remember is that it requires a few days of bright sun to be charged. The best thing to do is put in new batteries right away. It required really small screw driver to change the battery however, so you might want to buy a screw driver with lots of snap in sizes of heads to get a small one.Honestly, after it is charged by really good solar panels it works for months and months. For example, the first one that we purchased was charged last spring and is still working a year later with no battery change.My impression is that it won't work much for scaring birds, dogs, cats or other varmints. But we've found that it does help with deer. Not as well as a shot gun, but it is the best we can do for now.

Received this the other day. Trying to scare deer away from my garden. I have it set on 5 and all it does is a blinking light once in awhile. No high pitched sound. If I set it on 3 or 4 it has the sound but it sounds all the time without shutting off so I can’t use those settings which I’d like so to scare the deer. If anyone knows if I’m doing something wrong let me know. If I can’t get the high pitched sound to work with the motion I am going to return it.

Worked Good for about Three Months and after that it went down Hill. Now it is Just down Right Pitiful.

I think it is helping keep raccoons away from my chickens. I saw a raccoon running away from my coop last night like it was scared.

I am using this for my backyard. we have had pretty bad animal problems such as deer,squirrel,cat,snake but now after using this product our garden looks like a maximum-security prison. pretty good product and works great.

The motion sensor seems as if it has too narrow detection zone if unit is fairly level it will detect from a distance but seems not to see anything as tall as a Squirrel in front of it if unit is turned slightly downwardit won't detect a human until you are 8ft in front of it, That said it has reduced the squirrel activity in the yard by a great deal but because of the detection problem some still get by without being effected.

This does not work on any setting available. I tried changing it multiple times and changing the direction by a few degrees multiple times. *IT SIMPLY DOES NOTHING TO REPEL DOGS*.Unfortunately, by the time decided I had given it enough time to work (which was apparently 31 days from day of order, as opposed to 30 days from day of delivery), the *VERY LIMITED TRIAL USE TIME WINDOW* had closed and now I am stuck with a $30 item that does not function as promised.BUYER BEWARE THIS IS A BOGUS PRODUCT THAT DOES NOT REPEL DOGS.
