Fix Your Firehouse: 7 strategies that produce a winning team

You need this book!
This is a WINNER! There is a lot of garbage out there and I don't usually promote very many books or programs unless they hold true value to "What We Do & How We Do it". My litmus test for these books...? Is it realistic and can it be applied equally across all aspects of the fire service? Very similar to the SMART Goals development process, the A & R must be in the mix to work...are they the items Attainable and are they Realistic? In today's fire service, there are so many books written on this topic, but a lot are very unrealistic and can only be placed into use in a limited number of departments. What John has put together here is outstanding, it requires no budget increase, capital projects, or manpower, only an enthusiastic team and the motivation provided by great leadership. This book provides it all. It's a must have for your "Officers tool box"! Great Job Captain Lovato.

The next great Fire Officer guidebook
This book is fantastic. There is no shortage of mentors in the fire service, you just have to know where to look. Often times, these leaders may not exist in our company, firehouse, or even department. I have spent the last year finding online training, attending lectures from Mark vonAppen, and studying leadership. It has taken me a year to understand and accomplish what could have been done by reading these 150 pages. This book is a must have for all company officers, or those with aspirations of promotion. Captain Lovato is not bringing something revolutionary to the fire service with this work, but is absolutely saying what needs to be said, and modeling the behavior of a leader we would all love to follow. His prescribed methods are clear, and firefighter proof. This is a great read, and a fantastic value. I can't wait to share this book.

Good book
Good book that covers many critical problems that arise in most fire departments across the country. I like that is straight to the point without a lot of filler.

A must for 1%'er fire officers!
This is an amazing book. I would rank it as a top 3 leadership book in the fire service. It's written in 'firefighter language' and has many practical take-home lessons you can put into play right away in your firehouse. I normally highlight profound statements in books I read. Let's just say.... my highlighter almost ran out ink! Oh, by the way.... it's only $10. This book should honestly be in the $50-75 range - it's THAT valuable. If you're on the fence, get the hell off and order your copy NOW! Wait, do more than that. Buy one for your fellow officers or senior firefighters.

Every 3rd day my husband goes to work happy, and returns even happier
My husband is a part of Capt. Lovato's crew and had me purchase the kindle version for himself. 2 days later he needed the hard copy as well. When I asked why he needed both, he replied, "so I can pass it along to probationary fire fighters that walk through the door". Every 3rd day my husband goes to work happy, and returns even happier. Capt. Lovato has boosted morale, productivity and efficiency within his crew while battling high call volume and meeting the demands of training. Excellent read for anyone in a leadership role.

WOW!! What a great book! By far a must have in your leadership library. Got the book on Sunday finished at the station Monday. If you have been an officer for 20 years or wanting to promote...you NEED this book. Cap. you nailed it in this book. Easy to read and can't wait to start the re-read where I can mark it up. Written by a fireman for firemen. It has earned a spot on my night stand reading pile along with Step Up and Lead and Pride and Ownership. Great job Cap!!!

A must read for Fire Service leaders!
This a book that every Company Officer should read. Not only company Officers but ones aspiring too and Battalion Chiefs as well. It gives you a very basic way to run your crew and how to keep crew ready to fight. I don't know John but I can tell he would an awesome officer to work for just by what he preaches. I do same, we have learned the same practices from some of the same people. I look forward to sharing your work!

100% Practical Relevance (English/German)
Finally there is a book far away from dry theories. Cpt. Lovato places special emphasis on his own experiences what makes this book unique. Strategies, to establish order among the crew in a firehouse. Although he is a professional firefighter, leaders of volunteer fire departments can also easily use his strategies. I strongly recommend this book! Unfortunately there are still many leaders who are not able to implement personnel management. Lovato demonstrates his 7 strategies - step by step. Besides the fact that Cpt. Lovato is an american firefighter, his plans can be implemented everywhere around the globe - because the fire in america burns like everywhere. Good Job, Captain! Tolle Arbeit, Captain!
