Finally, a replacement stylus for the Omega
Originally, Ortofon did not offer a replacement stylus for the Omega. I remember reading somewhere that the cost of the stylus was not that much less than the combo and so they chose not to offer the stylus initially.I can see that point of view. Considering that at time of writing, a Omega cartridge and stylus go for around 37 dollars, this individual stylus is only 8 dollars cheaper than buying the whole kit. Still, why would I want to spend an extra 8 bucks just to get an extra cartridge when I already have one?The Omega really is a great cartridge. With compatibility with some of the higher end 'concorde-style' Ortofon styluses that use the same form factor, it's a great budget cartridge with a lot of upgradability. Of course, if you're on a budget, the basic Omega stylus isn't terrible either. Not everyone has a hundred bucks to drip on a turntable stylus.Of course, this review is about the basic Omega stylus. The basic stylus is certainly a decent one for its budget price. It's elliptical, putting it a step above cheaper conical style styluses. I have used several of these and I've read that there is a break-in period for these styluses. I would agree with that. They do seem to improve in sound quality with a little wear. This stylus is a bit bass heavy, but doesn't suffer from much sibilant hiss. It has surprisingly good sound separation as well. It tracks really well on most records, including worn ones, something I can't say about some of the other budget cartridge/stylus combos I've used.If you have a bit of spare money, look into getting a better stylus for your Omega... but if you don't, this stylus will suite the basic user just fine.

Sounds good for the price
A good value for the record lover on a budget. It is decent sounding but does not campare to higher priced stylii.

Great value, relatively durable.
Ordered the stylus, got an entire new cartridge assembly with needle cover and hardware. Not complaining about that. For under $30 it's great, sounds fine on my budget flea market setup. These needles are rugged as hell, this is my second one. Accidentally slammed the first one into the body of the turntable after letting it drag along the platter, not one of my finer moments but it still played. Replaced it anyway to be safe.

Great Intro to the Ortofon Line - the Omega
The Ortofon Omega been a great Cartridge for a long time. I use it mostly on older records and it sounds and tracks great. But as I stated I've had it for a while now and needed to replace the Stylus (got old). Bought the Omega 1E Stylus from Amazon and now it tracks good as new. If you love listening to records as much as I do (nothing like vinyl) you will come to appreciate Ortofon Stereo Cartridges. The make the best ones!

These sounded terrible. I bought two
These sounded terrible. I bought two, tried the first one, and thought something was wrong it. Then I tried the other one, same result. Music sounded weak and distorted. I can't believe they actually sell these.
