A great alternative to Heartgard
To make a long story short, Vetrimec is a good ivermectin product. My dog tolerates it well, and the packaging and seals were all in perfect shape. When reviewing a product like this that's about all you can say. However, dog owners wonder why you might want to order a product like this. Here's why:Dog owners are constantly searching for ways to reduce the cost of pet ownership, and with good reason. Many of the supplies and items associated with pets are extremely overpriced, and if you own multiple dogs it's very easy for costs to skyrocket. One area where owners try to save money is in flea/tick guards and heart worm preventatives. Personally I believe that owners should stick with the higher end flea/tick guards because the cheaper stuff seems to cause a lot of problems in too many dogs. However, I do believe that owners can easily save hundreds of dollars in the world of heart worm preventatives. All heart worm preventatives contain ivermectin. Ivermectin is a dewormer that in dogs is a preventative again heart worms, and bottles of ivermectin, like Vetrimec, contain enough ivermectin for thousands of doses for a dog. Converting a bottle of ivermectin into a diluted solution for dogs costs about $75 total with all of the supplies (ivermectin, syringes, propylene glycol, and empty bottles), and it replaces about $300 of Heargard if you assume the ivermectin is good for 3 years. If you have 2, 3, or even 4 dogs you'll quickly see how the cost savings quickly adds up.With that being said, diluting ivermectin is not for everyone. It does take a little extra work and math on your part. On top of that, few owners will get support from a typical household pet vet because a vet's office makes money off the sale of items like Heartgard. However, if you're willing to stay the course I think Vetrimec is a great option. One thing to remember if you're diluting your own ivermectin - this is only a heart worm preventative. It is not a dewormer for things like roundworms, hook worms, and tape worms. There are some other alternatives to these medications as well, but that is information for a different review.

Great product, use with knowlege from a vet ONLY!
Ivermectin is excellent but you must know proper dosing for your dog. That information should comefrom your vet ONLY and for what reason it is being used For example, heart worm prevention, ear mites and worming dosages. Do not guess or take just anyone's advice. Speak to your vet only. If they don't know (they should) then do not use w/o speaking to a vet who does KNOW proper dosing.Realize this product is made for cattle, swine etc so do not follow those directions for a dog! PLEASE!!! Also, try to get the latest expiration date and watch the date. When it expires, best to purchase a new bottle. You will need diabetic type syringes and a needle to draw it up properly. For dogs, small amounts are used so please check with your vet and realize you're using mcg (micrograms) NOT milligrams!!! Get a weight chart from your vet for whatever the purpose is. Let the vet calculate or give you a dosage per every 5 or 10 lbs. Be cautious and it is a very safe medication administered properly!I use a small piece of bread, put the dosage in it then wrap in cheese or cream cheese as the flavor is nasty. Also wear gloves when handling it as it will go through the skin of a human or dog. Good luck and don't take just anyone's advice on how to dose your dog for different ailments!

A great drug for many uses when used correctly!
I have been using this for years and am so grateful for all of the money its saved me! I am golden retriever breeder with 12 healthy, heartworm-free, and mite-free dogs! This product, Ivermectin 1% injectable can be safely used ORALLY to prevent heartworms, as drops in ears to treat for ear mites, AND orally at a much higher dose to treat demodex, or demodectic mange (NOT sarcoptic mange), but it MUST BE GIVEN FOR A MINIMUM OF 8 WEEKS to treat demodex!PLEASE get dosing instructions from you vet before giving this to your dog for ANYTHING!Sadly, I have just read dozens of teviews along with dozens of Answers given to questions posted about what it treat, how much to give, and how often that not only wrong, but insanely dangerous!!!! NO, DO NOT GIVE IT TO YOUR BLUE HEELER!!! They carry the merle gene, just as border collies, australian shepherds, and collies do and ivermectin can fatal in even the smallest amounts in dogs with the merle gene!!! I dont care how big your dog is or what you are using this to treat for, 7mls is THREE TIMES TOO MUCH TO GIVE YOUR GIVE YOUR DOG, EVER!!!When used responsibly, with your vet's guidabce, this can keep your dog worm-free, mane-free, and mote-free, but used incorrectly it can be fatal!!!!

This saved my dogs life!!
WOW! i bought this because the guy at the local pet store recommended this for my dog who has had mange for over a year and nothing was working. I did the shampoos, the Nu stock creams, sprays, oatmeal baths, someone recommended even a used motor oil bath which worked just slightly, but by then i think i was so hopeful for anything to work that it looked like it did. Well my pit mix had about less than 200 hairs on her body literally! she had bad bloody sores and swelled up paws that was painful for her to even walk, i was going to put her down until someone suggested Ivermectin. the local pet store was going to charge me $15 every week for each injection. So buying the bottle is a HUGE savings because you only give the dog a small amount, its a 50ml bottle and i give my dog about 3 mL every other day, so it lasts for months. within 1 week hair was growing and everyone was surprised on how fast it grew back! within 1 month she went to having about 10% of hair to 90%!! her sores went away, and she is now a normal energetic dog, this literally saved my dogs life!! But make sure to read warnings and dosages!!
