This is the real deal. Cork, leather, a buckle or two: these are the simple ideas that have made feet happy for over two hundred years, and that's the original Birkenstock. These shoes are made in Germany since 1774. No smoke, no mirrors, and no gizmos are needed. You walk, the shoe molds to your foot. The shape of the Original Birkenstock Footbed enables body weight to be distributed evenly over the whole foot, providing it with optimal support.

Love the Soft Birki!
I have pain in my metatarsal (forefoot) area; the older I get, the more padding I'm losing. A podiatrist recommended I always wear shoes with support, even at home. I used to wear slippers with some padding but that just doesn't cut it anymore & I think it led to damaging my feet. Birkenstocks were suggested & since I've had a pair of sandals for years that I love, I started wearing Birkenstocks all the time at home.I usually wear the traditional Birkenstock but I thought I'd give this soft version a try. This soft version is wonderful too.I like this slip on/slip off version because it's more like a slipper. They are also pretty much non-marking although you can leave a light mark on a floor if you turn really fast. The mark is easily wiped off with just a damp cloth; no scrubbing. These shoes wear really well. I tend to be a "stomper" & a fast-walker but these shoes can handle it.I normally wear size 7.5 (US size). My feet are average width. The 38 M (EU) fits me perfectly. My toes can wiggle & I can wear thick socks if I choose. There is some break-in time with these shoes but less than the traditional Birkenstock. The heat of your foot & your weight will form the cork to your feet. If you've ever tried on someone's Birkenstocks, you'll know what I mean. Some people have trouble with this & should wear them for a few hours at a time until broken in. I did not experience any pain with my break-in period & the extra cushion is heaven under my feet. I still like the traditional Birkenstock but these are a nice change & would be good for people who like a more cushy feel. You can have these shoes resoled, the liners replaced, etc. at a good shoe repair shop. People love their Birki's & hate to throw them away.

Love the Dijon color
I wish these had fit because I love the color and know I love Birkenstocks. I have been an avid Birkenstock customer for many years. I wear a 36 in sandals with an open toe, but I guess I need a 37 N in these as they were a bit short and too wide. So disappointed because I love them. They come in a 37N but unfortunately were all sold out in this color. They did have my size in the light brown suede which I love too, but not for the sale price. I will keep checking back, maybe they will get marked down someday soon. I can only hope so!

If you are a D width and a woman, shoe is too narrow.
Get yourself fitted on a brannock device if you can. If you are a woman and your feet are D width, the shoe will be too narrow for you and the sides of your feet will be aggressively jammed against the side of the shoe. This is a great shoe for people who need that arch support. I wish Birkenstock would make a special wide line.

A Little Different Fit for the Amsterdam vs the Boston
I do not often leave reviews but thought I would for my fellow Birkenstock fans who are thinking of trying this clog. I have a crazy kind of love for Birkenstocks and have lost track of how many pairs I have owned through the years. I have different styles for different seasons - some women have a collection of sassy heels; I have a collection of Birkenstocks. This year I thought to try the Amsterdam Soft Foot Bed and bought these specifically to use as slippers (I was wearing an old pair of Arizona's with thick socks as slippers but wanted something a little warmer this year). The soft foot bed is quite cushy making my feet very, very happy. I have both the Boston and London clogs in my regular size of 39M -the fit of both of these is perfect with enough extra room for a pair of thick socks. (The Arizona I have to punch an extra set of holes to make them tighter to give you an idea of the foot width on which I am basing my review). The Amsterdam, however, fits a bit differently and was much more snug across the bridge of the foot. My thick softs also clung to the suede and did not easily slide in place like they do with the other clogs I have in leather. The fit is fine with thinner socks but even barefoot or with very thin smooth socks there is still some drag and I cannot easily slide my foot in without pushing the shoe into place on my foot. I probably could have sized up on this one but I am sure they will stretch out a bit to give me a little more room and the suede will smooth out on the inside with a little more wear. Even given the slightly different fit I am happy with this clog and I would buy them again.

Beautiful shoe but too small
I normally wear size 41 but sized it up to 42 just to be sure. Much to my disappointment, the size 42 was too narrow and too short. Fortunately, it was a free return. The shoe itself is beautiful and up to the standards of Birkenstock, however the color was more of an orange rust color than what appears on my screen. I was very disappointed to have to return this shoe. As an aside, I recently tried on the Birkenstock Boston clog in the felted wool version and the size 42 fit perfectly.

Birkenstock-Amsterdam
Very disappointed. Ordered another in gray just before these & they are such a perfect fit that I ordered this one, same size (must have been mis-sized) because they are too short & arch support in the wrong place..If this had been my first pair of Birkenstocks I would never have ordered any more.

"Birkies" are THE BEST!!!
I have had a total of 4 foot surgeries (one on my right foot, and 3 on my left foot), so I MUST wear high-quality, supportive footwear. My podiatrist recommended purchasing a pair of Birkenstock sandals after my first surgery, and I have been wearing "Birkies" ever since! They offer THE BEST support of any shoes that I have ever worn! So, I purchased this particular pair of clogs to wear around the house, in place of regular, flimsy bedroom slippers, and I absolutely LOVE them! They keep my feet warm in cold weather, and still offer the support that I need in order to avoid foot pain; they make a world of difference in preventing back pain, too! They are always true-to-size, and the quality of the materials and construction are superior! It can definitely be said that "you get what you pay for" with these; they are worth EVERY penny!!! Just remember, always give them a "breaking-in" period of a few days, in order to allow them to conform to your feet; after that, they fit as if they were custom-made! EXCELLENT purchase!
