All Show and No Go
From the fluffy marketing words used to promote this product, such as "quality full-spectrum sound", "outstanding accuracy", and "unique asymmetrical baffling", you would expect that the Altec Lansing VS1520 2.0 Computer Speakers are at least listenable. They are not.Pros:The industrial design team got it right with attractive, modern styling. The bases hook together for a low-profile soundbar configuration that can sit just in front of a TV or a computer monitor.Slightly better sound than the typically terrible internal speakers of laptop computers. The AC/DC converter (mini power brick) must be quite efficient because it doesn't heat up much at all.Cons:The sound is so tinny that it makes voices sound annoyingly unnatural, like a bad answering machine speakerphone. Music sounds like telephone hold music. The amplification is so weak that you have to crank up the output from your source by several increments above normal to get adequate volume from these speakers. It's actually a blessing that they cannot get loud, because it sounds like AM radio. Before you even listen to these speakers the light weight is a clue that they used miniscule magnets inside, and that's part of the reason for the crappy sound. Conclusion:I waited too long to audition them and missed the return window. This model is now out of production (for good reason?). It would seem that their goal was to fool customers with empty marketing hype as they could easily have used better components inside but chose not to. Note that Altec Lansing is a division of Plantronics so you should be suspicious of any product under either brand. For me, it was buyer's remorse; once burned, twice learned.

Middle of the Road
The Altec Lansing VS1520 speakers are just okay - nothing special. You are getting what you pay for...$30 speakers. The volume is limited and the tone is tinny. They are fine for an office where you wouldn't want to turn the volume up very high and don't want to bother others. They are also fine for a laptop and do have a handy MP3 jack. All in all...3 stars.

Nice design and compact but light indicactor too strong
Received speakers fews days ago. The sound seems very good for my basic needs such as skyping and watching videos. I will leave the detailed sound analysis for others. My only comment is that the light "on" bulb is a strong blue which interferes with the visualization of the screen. Basically when placed below monitor as designed I need cover light bulb with, say, a piece of cloth. I'll probably try to tape it. Otherwise I like speakers a lot.

Works well, but sound is sub-par
After reading the reviews, I expected much more from these. After all, Altec Lansing is a respected name in speakers. The audio produced by the pair in our suite sounds horribly lifeless. Many other speakers in the same price range have a superior sound.

These speakers are just "okay"
I thought that I would get more sound out of these speakers based on the shipping weight. They sound "ok". Im a little dissapointed with Altec. The last speakers I bought from them were amazing!

still great for streaming shows and films
An improved version of an older model, this time the internal transformer has been replaced with an external 120v to 9v adapter, and there is an added aux out to go along with the headphone out. Still under 50 bucks, still great for streaming shows and films.

Comp. Speakers
Some people have dissed these speakers, "They sound like 30$ speakers". Yes they do but these were for work where I can't be too loud anyway. I am very happy with them and would suggest to a friend. I bet they would sound GREAT with a subwoofer!

Altec Lansing Compute Speakers
These speakers are just the right size for my desk computer, you just plug them in the back of your tower and turn them on. The sound is great.
