The design principle is a circular base from which a stem extends upward to a larger circular top. The Tulip is available in a wide variety of sizes and is the single most celebrated design in a mid-century modern tables. In the design phase of Eero Saarinen earliest prototype, the Tulip Table stem and base were made of fiberglass. Before even going into production, Eero realized that while this ensured absolute color and sheen consistency, the fiberglass base would not support the table. He then switched to a Cast Aluminum base. Experimenting with Rilsan type coating over the aluminum, he was able to achieve the coordinating gloss and color of the fiberglass. * True To Original: Cast Aluminum supporting base scratch resistant Rilsan coated finish to match color and sheen level * True to Original: Cast Aluminum Top to base supporting stem with scratch resistant Rilsan finish to match color and sheen level * True to Original: Table top constructed of pure 100% molded high polish Fiberglass * Tulip table top dimension: (121cm) 48″ nominal, actual is 47.63″ * Circular Base Dimension: 22" Diameter * Floor to table top dimension: 30" Height * True to Original: Upper shell 100% molded fiberglass. 1.5″ thick * Circular Base Floor protector pads pre attached HISTORY OF THE ICONIC TULIP CHAIR & TABLES Does it get any more “Eero Saarinen” than the Tulip Chair and Table series? It should come as no surprise that an artists work is their signature. Comparing the tulip table and chairs, created in 1964/65 respectively, it is not difficult to see the relationship to Eero's other furniture pieces. A similar styling can be found in Eero Aarnio' ball chair. Not only did they share the same first name but a similar design flair. While available in many colors today, the original Tulip chair exclusively featured red wool fabric cushions. The chairs feature pure solid white molded fiberglass shells that rest on a aluminum cast base. Smooth with a gloss sheen and seamless appearing in design. The Tulip Chair went on to star in none other than Gene Rodenberry's Star Trek between 1966 and 1969. The bridge chairs were tulip chairs, with a slight modification. After the series ended, a few were salvaged. One recently auctioned for more than $18,000. History of the Original Designer, Eero Aarnio Eero Saarinen born 1910 was a Finnish American architect and industrial designer famous for his ability to master varying style. For example, he was accomplished in both simple, sweeping, arching structural curves and seemingly the opposite side of the spectrum, machine-like rationalism. He designed many important pieces of furniture including one of the most famous, the "Womb" chair and ottoman (1948). The "Tulip" or "Pedestal" group (1956), features side and arm chairs, dining, coffee and side tables, as well as a stool. Eero's designs were extensive, all were highly successful except for the "Grasshopper" lounge chair, which, although in production through 1965, was not a big hit.

LOVE
This took a bit longer than expected to arrive but it is totally worth the wait!! And the rep @ Kardiel was super responsive and sorted out the freight carrier schedule without a problem. This table is so beautiful and solid - the base is heavy and has a no skid padding underneath, so it will remain sturdy even if you plan to use it a lot. The finish on the table is perfection - no bubbles or other paint coat problems you read about with some of the other "inspired" products. It is seriously flawless. Now I haven't gone crazy with it yet so I don't know if that will hold up, but I am impressed at this point. The design is also very well done, though I'm no "mod snob", so I can't tell you how it stacks up to the original, but to me it is clean and streamlined, the base is a perfect weight against the table top, and adds elegance and simplicity to my breakfast nook where I really needed a compact pedestal table with some personality. I looked high and low for the right match, and was looking for a modern touch to what is otherwise quite an old but remodeled/remastered house, and this works better than I ever thought it would. I highly recommend it - I cannot believe that I ended up finding the perfect kitchen table on freakin' Amazon! It is just fantastic and I am 110% satisfied!!

Imperfect imitation
This table is a version of the classic "Tulip Table" that Eero Saarinen designed for Knoll in 1956. The manufacturer (Kardiel) says it is "Designed in Seattle, Made in China".The two pieces (table top and base) were heavily protected in bubble wrap, and were shipped in sturdy cardboard boxes that were further protected by an exoskeleton of plywood framing.Nevertheless the table top has a number of noticeable dings (see photo attached). Because the table top was so carefully packaged, I can only assume that these dings were a production flaw that was overlooked at the factory.Eero Saarinen would not approve.

Poorly made reproduction by Kardiel
The lesson to learn here is that you get what you pay for and this is a poorly made reproduction that chips easily.Spend the money and by one from Knoll.

Arrived quickly, great table. The width and height is perfect for a side table to a guest room. The quality is really good. It's a heavy table. Came very well packaged. The only issue was that the delivery was supposed to be 12-3pm and it came at 6pm. I had to wait for it since it needed a signature.

Eero Sarrinen won a world wide comeptition with this inovative design
This table met my expectations...solid, stable, easy to assemble. It is quite heavy and you might need two people to lift the top up onto the base. It has a very high gloss shine which surprised me a little bit. The hard to find 32" size is perfect for my small dining area.Delivery was quick and I was kept informed along the way. Packaging was very safe with bubble wrap and heavy cardboard. It was delivered on a wooden pallet.

Beautiful!
The table and service deserve 5plus stars. I chose this for my son's condo, it looks great! I am sure it will hold up to the "frat" boys. Thank you for the product, service, and communication.

arrived as portrayed
This table is sturdy and well-designed. I worried that it would not be a good copy of the original, but it is. It is not at all "tippy" and is working well as our kitchen table.
