At last - incredible quality speakers which are SO easy to set up.
At last - incredible quality speakers which are SO easy to set up and use. There is a clear quick-start guide which actually works.Apart from the two power leads, these speakers are cable-free.The speakers connected to each other via Bluetooth straight away. There are simple buttons on the top of both speakers and I easily followed the directions on the quick-start guide. The speaker tells you that it is connected with an excellent clear and friendly voice. There are proper, clear inputs on the back where you can plug in other devices. I love this because it caters for those old devices such as MP3 player, iPod, minidisc player, record deck, all sorts - but it seamlessly syncs with your Bluetooth devices like your iPad, phones etc as well.iPad:The iPad instantly recognised Ustream One on Bluetooth and synced immediately. This means you can watch YouTube videos on your iPad but with really good sound while sitting on your sofa - as well as the usual platforms or your onboard apps. The whole of the iPad’s sound is transferred to the speakers. You can control the sound from the iPad and from the dinky remote. There’s a mute button on the remote which is very handy. E.g. irritating adverts at the top of YouTube movies can be muted! Hooray! The sound is amazing. Now then - switching between devices is also EASY.Phone:I have a bog-standard android phone. Nothing fancy. Again - EASY. You get the friendly voice telling you you’re connected via Bluetooth. You can then choose something to play.USB device via USB slot:When I plugged a USB stick into the speaker, the friendly voice said connected. Obviously, it plays what’s there but you can skip tracks using the remote. Very nice touch that!MP3 player via aux in:Easy. Same things apply. The remote is so handy for using USB and MP3 player in particular because once plugged in you can physically move away and use it to skip tracks and adjust volume from where you are rather than having to get up and use the device that's plugged in.SOUND:The sound is amazing - it’s clear and rich, has good bass, the separation is great, it has a lot of volume capacity - when the sound is low volume it is still distinct, when the sound is at high volume it’s still crisp - I'm SO impressed with the sound quality which, after all, is the top-most important thing. I tried playing all sorts of different music and they are all crisp and clear. And the massive bonus is not having to faff around trying to work out how to use uStream One.It is without hassle.I am a musician and these are going to be tremendously useful for me in all sorts of ways including listening for enjoyment.DESIGN:The speakers look really cool especially with the orange woofer but they are unobtrusive. Mine are 'piano black' and look great. They are also compact enough to fit easily on a surface or shelf or table but yet the sound is big. They are lightweight as well. This means I could easily decide to use them elsewhere.I know I keep going on about this but it is so EASY using these speakers. The trouble I’ve had trying to get supposedly ‘easy-to-connect’ devices to actually connect/sync in the past made me a bit sceptical about products that say they are. But this one actually works. And I haven't even explored all the other stuff these speakers can do yet. Think I might plug my deck in next...If you're someone who wants really good quality, hassle-free, work-straight-away-with-no-faffing speakers which connect to almost anything, then these are for you.

Give it time
As an experienced Hi Fi enthusiast I was excited about the uStream one when it was announced last year. Since lockdown my wife was getting a bit fed up with all my expensive equipment scattered about the living room and we decided to simplify my audio equipment and embrace streaming. I already own a pair of Ruark MR1's which I use with my laptop and I find them excellent if a little light in the bass. I was initially tempted by the Kef LSX but the £1000 price tag put me off.The £500 uStream one seemed to fit the bill for use with my newly acquired Philips OLED TV wich has a bluetooth output. I took the plunge and ordered one. On arrival setting up was simple (when the correct instructions arrived). On my first audition I was horribly disappointed. The treble was exaggerated causing speech to sound very sibilant. Trumpets and woodwind screeched horribly and finally I contacted Mitchell acoustics and was advised to return the speakers for testing. It turned out there was a faulty component causing the issue and a fully tested new pair was dispatched the next day. As soon as I turned them on I immediately heard the sound I was expecting if still not quite up to the standard I was used to but still very acceptable.I have now had the speakers for one month and I can honestly say they have improved day by day. All speakers sound a little harsh when new and need a "running in" period to achieve their full potential. The same applied to the uStream one and now the audio quality is on a par with my previous £3000 set up. There is also the added convenience of no wires (of which my wife is extremely happy) except the mains cables. If you decide to purchase these speakers please be patient and finally you will have a system that not only looks good but performs as well as much more expensive systems.

Heavy bass, some distortion
I unpacked the pair of Mitchell speakers, cleverly packed to protect from damage, when setting up, it was apparent that one of the power supplies was not working, I contacted the supplier through Amazon and Paul Mitchell himself rang to arrange replacement and a turn label for the faulty one. I was then able to set up and pair the speakers. Purchased to avoid the need to run a speaker lead under the fitted carpet in our lounge. The Bluetooth connection between the speakers worked well and was stable as long as nothing obstructed the signal, I did try moving one of the speakers into an alcove by the fireplace but then would not connect so line-of-sight is required. The sound is not well balanced, stereo effect was very clear but very heavy bass and sibilance for higher notes and percussion. I set up an old pair of Bose speakers for comparison - they were noticeably clearer.I have kept the Mitchell speakers to use with a TV and for connection to I-pad for music in our 2nd sitting room. I notice that the price has dropped well below £400 in the last week. Very disappointed ted with the units - looks like negotiations with my wife to run a speaker lead will continue!
