DON'T BUY ANY HEAD PHONES UNTIL YOU HEAR THESE!
My old Sennheiser 202's fell prey to their usual affliction; one channel went out. I decided that I would replace them with something better and immediately set out on a search. I've tried the Sony 7506, ATH-M40X, and these and I like these best of all. The only thing that would make them perfect for me is if they were as comfortable as the AT's. The build quality on all three is excellent, but these things are tanks! Head phones are like women (or men, if you're a woman) in the sense that finding just the right one for you is not easy. There are so many things to consider like build quality, comfort, and, of course, sound quality. If it were all about sound quality, for me, these are the hands down winners. I have a very eclectic taste in music which runs from rock, soul, jazz, blues, country, classical, some rap, and even techno. Obviously, no one head phone is going to excel at all of those, but these come close. I like a bit more bottom end in my music than some and these definitely have bottom end! Kick drums really have an authoritative thump to them, but high-hats, snares, and cymbals are perfectly represented here. I've been singing for 55+ years, so accurate vocal representation is important to me and is not as easy to reproduce as one might think, especially when you add in a good dose of bass. The HM9's do an excellent job in the mid-range; you can understand every word, every vocal inflection, and every hear the singer take a breath now and then There is a particular piece of music from Jesus Christ:Superstar, "Gethsemane", performed by Steve Balsamo that will showcase these cans quite well. It has sonorous low notes, strings, and Steve has a vocal range that is nothing short of amazing. There are a few very high notes in this piece, and the HM9's really bring them home. It's very rare that I hear any sound reproducing device that does all three well. These cans do require some break-in time before it manages to perfectly separate the low bass from the mid-bass, but you'll hear it when it happens. So, if they're so great, why only four stars? These are the most uncomfortable head phones I have ever worn, and I really am sorry to have to say it. I keep hoping they'll stretch or conform to my ears, anything. Folks always told me I had the big head, so I guess they're right. These phones actually hurt my ears more than my head, so I may have to try a different set of pads.I really liked the M40X phones, but I couldn't get enough volume without amping them. The HM9's give me twice the volume with the same amount of power. In closing, if you haven't tried Brainwavz, give them an audition. They've got a two year warranty and they look indestructible and they sound great!

Impressive.
These are different headphones for sure, looks and sound wise, nothing better than a pair of headphones that have their own sound and build to where they stand out in your collection. These are well worth the price of $109 for sure. I'm not very good at explaining things to the T like many other reviewers can and do. I collect headphones, I've bought and sent back many headphones as well as bought and kept many headphones. For these to stand out enough for me to say, yay, I chose right and will happily keep these, is a big deal. These come with a wonderful hard case, a strap for it, three different wires, an airplane adapter and the headphones. The erapads are awesome, as you'd expect from Brainwaves, whom is known for their earpads. Sorry, I can't go into great detail about what the sound and build is like, maybe I'll come back when i have more time to try and explain. I can say without a doubt that these are great headphones all around.

Not built to last, and company can be shady.
*Edit* Don't buy these. They are extremely uncomfortable to wear for the first few weeks. After a year they fall apart. The mesh screens that cover the metal speaker parts fall out. This can cause extreme pain for ears to the point you can't wear them. Brainwavz claims to have a 24 month warranty so I told them the issue. They said send pics. I did. They said ship it back to them in Hong Kong and they would send me a replacement. Wow really? Brand new HM9's? Yes they assured me after looking at the pictures. So I shipped them back. It cost me $22.75. Cheapest possible option to Hong Kong. I packed and shipped them just as directed. Long story short this was very time and energy consuming. After a month no word. I contact them via email (they have no phone number, or refuse to give it). They say it hasn't arrived and to talk to USPS. Then later that same day they send me another email saying that they did receive it, but it was determined that they were damaged by wear and tear, and that they would not send the replacements after all, because the warranty only covers manufacturing defects. They said to reconfirm my address and they would send them back. They handled this all wrong. $22.75 down the toilet for over a month of waiting to find out I've been lied to. Very unscrupulous behavior on this one. I told them keep the headphones. They are unwearable with metal cutting into your ears. If you are still reading, don't just pass on these because of their lying and time and money wasting they did to me, pass on these because they weren't built to last.

The sound isolating has been excellent. I can lay in bed listening to music ...
First I'll do an individual rating. I bought these headphones mainly for two reasons. Supposedly the sound quality and the isolating capability. The sound isolating has been excellent. I can lay in bed listening to music at a fairly high volume and it doesn't disturb my wife. She can hear them, but the sound is low enough she can watch television or sleep and not be annoyed. The sound quality overall is OK. Some listeners might really like them, but the bass is just too strong for me. Depending on what type of recording I am listening to, the bass can be so strong that it passes into distortion. I know this can be a problem with isolating headphones, but the bass really does overwhelm over parts of the music. If the songs are not bass heavy, then they work very well. I haven't had a lot of headphones, but the 3 sets of Marley's I had before these, I enjoyed listening to much more. Even my $20 earbuds are better for some types of music. I would give the isolating capability 5 stars. Sound quality, 2 stars. The comfort of the headphones is ok. Because of the weight of the brace across the top, they continually want to swivel off my head, especially if I raise one cup off either ear, they'll just fall off. If I need to talk to someone, I must take them completely off and talk. I'll rate the comfort at 2 stars.

I'm sold out just with the included accessories.
Blown away by how much the manufacturer has thought everything out about these headphones.1st - the egg shell case with the velcro pouch inside with strap loops (strap included)2nd - the cable connection on the earcups is just immaculate. The easiest, no-fuss locking mechanism in any headphones that I ever saw.3rd - 3 cables included. Yes you read that right. Not one. Not two. But THREE CABLES!!!!My major gripes are:1 - I wish the phone cable is an L-shaped plug not a straight one which made this extra cumbersome when used with a mobile phone. You should be careful when using this headphones with your mobile phone / portable player in your pocket.2 - THESE AREN'T OVER-EAR!!! :( I wish I knew this before purchasing. I thought these are over-ear.and 3 - These doesn't block external noise as much as I need them to, it's probably because my head is quite small. I'm a guy standing 5ft weighing 120 lbs. Too bad because what I'm looking for is a headphone that would block noise well because I have a long commute to work everyday. But don't get me wrong, they don't do a bad job, they're actually are doing a good job considering a it's more of an on-ear headphones than an over-ear and with a lighter clamping force on my head but these just doesn't quite cut it for me. But I think in-spite of this reasion, if these were over-ears I would keep them because of the following reasons:SOUND QUALITY:I'm no audiophile but I'm an audio enthusiast and I've listened to quite a number of headphones. Appreciation of sound quality is subjective. But I really the appreciate the mid-range to these. I've never heard mids any better than these so far. With this it makes vocals really really crystal clear and rich and you can feel the details on the vibration of instruments.Sound profile is a bit warm but the treble can be a bit tinny although I think it might change after breaking these in which I wasn't able to because I will return them. But I really do think this headphone has a lot of potential.Bass has a lot of detail, not just a banging low end sound frequency. These aren't for the basshead but the bass is a bit forward with these.BUILD/COMFORT:Solidly built. Made with metal with some plastic parts that gives a bit of clanking here and there. The plastic parts are nicely rubber coated which adds a nice texture it. And these are so comfortable considering it's an on-ear headphones. Very good weight distribution.ACCESSORIES:Need I say more? ;)
