Slip on Need a heavy-duty loafer that'll endure tremendous activity? This shoe is just what the doctor ordered--Dr. Martens that is. It has all of the attributes you've grown to expect from the brand: a bouncy rubber sole, a quality leather upper. However, this one is less like a combat boot and more like a great business-casual shoe. It's dual-goring and topstitching is perfect for slipping on and going to work and beyond. P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history. See more

Really good shoes but....
I'm 6'2" 250lbs, I wore these on my feet 10-14 hours a day 5-6 days a week standing on my feet a lot. Comfortable the second you put them on. The problem, I've gone through two pairs now(each lasted me just over a year) because the inside of the shoe where your heel is wore out and collapsed on both pairs I've had. The outside of the shoe has held up great, just the heel inside the shoe. I'm trying another highly recommended brand for people on their feet a lot, we'll see if I come back or not in a year. Also of note, other common shoe store brands I used to wear prior to Dr. Martens would only last me about 6 months and the outside of the shoe would be worn and falling apart. They're really good shoes, I was just hoping for more but maybe I'm unrealistic...

Wife reviews shoe with husbands first impressions
A few things before I start my review…Doc Martens are specially sized you do not wear your regular shoe size in a Doc Martin you will definitely have to go up or down depending on how your fit needs to be depending on the shape of your foot. I always size up as a rule and I see by most of the pictures the people that had the problems were people that foot was too big for the shoe. The telltale sign of that being that the shoe shape changes and warps. The other thing is the shoes are made to be worn with the Doc Martens Insole. They are made to be rubbed with the wax after each where. This you should slowly develop a darker color and a more rich leather appearance. If you see pictures of the shoe and the color is lighter or more matte it means that people did not wax them. About this for my husband because I wanted to shoot he could wear with a suit or a pair of jeans. These may be slightly too casual for a suit but you could definitely wear them with nice slacks and a button down shirt. Or jeans and a jacket. I think the doc Martens style yellow stripe is what makes this you see more casual. The fit looks good. No signs of bending or wrinkles in the shoes after months of wear. Must be the wax and the size we chose. I will definitely be going back for a pair of boots as well. As doc Martens is known most for their boots I feel like it’s a must. I’m really happy with the shoes. I know that his feet are healthy and his back is aligned in a quality shoe.- husband never bought this brand before and will buy againWife wins again!

Bad Insole Design Causes Padding to Fail
Caveat, I only wore this shoe for one day and I already found a problem with the design. The leather and the outer sole are good, the problem is that the insole is not removable and when I walk, the insole separates from the inside edges and the insole cushion material gets damaged with each step. You can see small pieces the light gray colored rubber cushion material in some pictures. The inside of my left foot had also been hitting the exposed edge when the insole gets pushed away or down from the side of the shoe. This edge is where the leather is stitched to the outside. I've attached a couple of pictures that show how my fingers push the inside of the shoe away from the insole. This effect is much more noticeable when walking since forces are greater than the finger pushing against the edge of the shoe add shown in the picture. This issue would probably be solved if the insole was designed to overlapped the inside walls of the shoe. This issue may also be solved by the purchaser by putting in a removable insole, however, the padding material for the insole that came with shoe will probably continue to deteriorate. The tongue of the left shoe also diggs into my foot so adding a removable insole may just be trading one problem for another. I don't know since I haven't tried to put a removable insole in the shoe (I've only worn the shoe today).

1/2 Size too big, photos of color are not accurate, weird tag sewn inside on the heel.
These shoes are comfortable, but they fit about a half size larger than my other Doc's slip ons. The photos of this shoe in the ad are also not very accurate. The shoes I received are definitely tan, but they are SEVERAL shades lighter than the photos and unlike the photos the leather graining is barely visible. There's a small leather logo sewn into the heel of the shoe that feels like something is in the shoe under my heel. I'm sure it's going to flatten out, but it will take some time.

These are my favorite shoes... period!
These Dr. Martens shoes may have been stopped being produced by the manufacturer now. I searched for a couple days before finding this pair to replace the ones I currently have... which I have now worn out due to everyday wear. My first pair was purchased because I was looking for something black and business like, but also with properties of being comfortable on my feet while spending 10-12 hours in the office. These are without doubt the best shoes I have found yet. If you can find a pair... buy them, you won't be disappointed!

Way huge! They don’t know sizes anymore.
I have had other Docs, all in size 12, but these are ridiculously large for a size 12. I don’t know what has happened to the quality control that they can’t make a shoe the size printed on the shoe. They’re nice looking and comfortable, but way off in size. I would recommend ordering at least a full size down, if not two. For slip on shoes this is ridiculous. Seriously, what good is a great name if you’re just going to trash it with attention to important details.

great, comfortable shoe
This is my 3rd pair of Tevins; one in each color. If you suffer from flat fleet, as I do, these shoes are wonderful! The inability to have an arch in them makes finding shoes difficult, but these are absolutely perfect. In fact, I prefer wearing them over athletic shoes. I am on my feet a great deal of the day at work and they are extremely comfortable and take a lot of stress off of my back. They look great with dress casual clothing or in jeans. As mentioned, for people who suffer from flat feet I cannot say enough positive things about these shoes.

Too big, which is too bad.
If these had fit, I think I would have really liked them. There were very solid (I'm not a fan of overly-light shoes). Unfortunately, they were very large. I usually wear a 11.5 or 12. Since they didn't have 11.5, I ordered a 12. It felt more like a 13.I had read the reviews that said they tended to be large, so I almost ordered an 11, but Amazon's recommendation was a 12, so I went with it. I ended up buying a pair of Timberland Barret Parks and am happy with them.

Most comfortable shoes
Excellent shoes, light and the most comfortable I've ever tried with Dr Marten, just a little too big, will order a size smaller in future, but I'll stick to this model.
