ISO 9001:2015 for Small Businesses 6th Edition

Read the intro, seems like a good book. Should have used an ISO9001 certified publisher though 🤣

The publisher's offered online resources are impossible to access. I followed the instructions exactly, and the page errors out. They have also made it impossible to contact them. This is a shame because while the book is good, I don't feel like I have got my money's worth.

Some time ago, when I had decided to put my company through the ISO9001 drill, I had purchased the 9001:2000 edition (time flies!). The book helped me to understand ISO, brought me from zero knowledge to the level that I managed to have my company ISO9001:2000 certified with no external assistance. More over, I also decided to become an ISO9001 Auditor! This was many years ago and now, in another company, in another country, I had to go the same route and naturally, I decided to use this new updated version. I must confess that although the 2000 edition was pretty good, this one is a much better work. It it very well organised, provides a comprehensive understanding of what the ISO 9001 Standard is in general but also what are the differences introduced in the 2015 version. I found very interesting the reference to other Standards, for different inductrial sectors. It helped me identify additional documents I need to seek because of the type of business we run. The Chapter presenting the background of the Standard itself, I understand will be very useful to students, and this is its stated purpose. For me, it was diving directy to the chapter presenting the structure of the new standard. This was very useful as there are material differences from previous versions and it is very important to understand the relations. Surely, I downloaded the electronic form of the example QMS and I found it very easy to adapt to the structure, organisation, and operations of my own company. It is a good starting point and its biggest benefit is that you have a full QMS there, and can play with it. It certainly gives a much better understanding of the application of the standard that just reading about it. Many people will consider this the main attraction to the book itself, but I would disagree and say that it is the book that has the most value. Its text and explanations, the authours hints and suggestions make the difference between a "dry" text complying to the requirements of the Standard and the deeper understanding of how to use it optimally. Agreed, the Example can save a lot of typing. Yes, it provides ready-made copy for processes, procedures even work istructions that are more or less the same across organisations. But this is far from being a copy-paste-done kind of example and I personally like this fact. You do not just use it as it is. It needs a lot of work and some adaptations are not as straightforward as people may expect. If I may add a comment/suggestion, I would have prefered the example to be in the form of a Draft, and not as a finished QMS. But this comment is not detrimental to the book's value and I have to declare here that it took me just one working day to adapt Part 1 (the Quality Manual) to accuratelly reflect my own organisation. I expect Part 3 and 4 will not be so easy but still, having a given structure as starting point is pretty useful. Overall, this is a very valuable guide and companion to one's journey towards ISO9001:2015 accreditation. But even if such an accreditation is not the goal, learning about QMS, applying it to your organisation even if selectively can considerably improve a company. There may be hundreds of similar books out there, there may even be free sources of information on the internet but what I can say is that this book provided me with the reassurance that I have one volume with everything I needed. I highly recommend it.
