Eat Smart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale, White Chrome

I am writing this review after 14 years of use. It finally died today after 14 years not because of old age or broken parts but because of leaked battery! I think this scale would have last more than 20 years, if it wasn't for bad battery.During 14 years of use, this scale performed flawlessly, simple & easy... especially with large mumber display for my aging eyes. I will buy another one soon.

I loved this scale when I first got it, and I planned to order one of the other colors for myself and give my mom my originial white/chrome one. Unfortunately, almost exactly 6 months after I bought it, it started turning on by itself and giving strange readings. I changed the batteries--brand new ones, right out of the package--and the next day found it powered on by itself again AND showing a low battery icon. I changed them again, and now it seems to work and not work at random. I still find it turned on several times a week--sometimes with and sometimes without the low battery alert showing (with the same set of batteries in it.) It's disappointing, because there are so many great things about this scale. The features are nice, a plate sits securely on the flat round base, and I love that you can zero it out as you add each new item to the plate so you can calculate your total calories for the plate. You can switch between the different units of measure with no problem. I love that it comes in so many nice colors. I just really wish it worked longer than 5-6 months and was a little sturdier. It is very lightweight plastic and has nothing to protect the battery compartment from moisture. To my knowledge, my scale has never gotten wet--but I have to make conscious efforts to keep any liquids away from it. I'm now searching for a reasonbly-priced scale with similar features and size for myself and my mom.UPDATE: I added a couple stars to my original review. The company emailed me stating that they had seen my review and wanted to provide a free replacement for the scale, which they believe to be defective. I don't know if I got a dud or if the scales wear out quick because they're so lightweight. But I do know that customer service like that is rare, where a company contacts YOU and offers to make things right. Usually you have to beg THEM and end up getting nowhere--or at the most they offer you a discount on the NEXT purchase you make from them. This level of customer service from a company is worth the benefit of the doubt and the extra stars, for standing behind their product and actually caring what their customers think and say about their experience. And as stated in my original review, I love the scale itself and the features--I loved it right up until it quit working. Whether or not I take them up their offer, their customer service deserves all 5 stars.UPDATE 2016: As of 4/28/2016, not only is this scale still working, it's still working on the original battery. I follow a strict eating plan and very specific nutrient macros, and this scale is the only way that I can accurately calculate and portion my own recipes and homemade foods. All the functions still work, grams, oz, pounds--as well as the Tare function to zero out the weight of your dish or container. I'm actually really glad I gave this company a second chance, and equally impressed with their customer service who sought me out to provide me with a great product. 5 stars, for product, service, and longevity.

We've had this scale less than 2 months (our old scale stopped working after several years).This scale works fine, but the text on the 'ON/OFF/TARE' button's is wearing off, nearly unreadable. I expect that in a week or so, there will be no text left on it! Odd!

Like others have said, pulling out of the box, it seems to feel cheap.The scale works exactly as it should, reads in smaller increments than many others and is simple enough to put a battery into a be up and working with it.Unfortunately, like a few others have had, the initial battery that shipped with the unit died early on, mine after only three uses. The battery died oddly, it didn't fade out the screen, no no, it caused the electronics to display all sorts of numerical oddities and then blank out, making me think it died. But, thankfully, I put in a freshly charged NiMH battery and its been going strong now for two weeks (used about 15 times now).I'm using it to measure out green coffee beans to put into my Behmor 1600 roaster. So far, its helped me iron out my inconsistent roast problems .. by measuring out .8 lbs, I can set my roaster for 1 lb, and this roasts my coffee perfectly.. its amazing how something so simple as a precise starting weight can influence a roast profile into perfection.So far, I give this scale a thumbs up, I would buy again if I needed to, and am giving this 4 stars because the initial battery died so soon after putting into use, and partly because the unit doesn't feel like its built solid enough to handle near its maximium load (11 lbs) in continous fashion. If it lives the year, I'll review again and give it 5 stars then.2011.06.15 EDIT:Well its pretty near one year, this thing has been solid as a rock. Every weight I've put to it has been as near perfect as far as I can tell. I've used this for weighing coffee as well as a few packages I've shipped, which proved that between it and a postal scale the accuracy was dead on! I've measured other foods, and even chickens obtained at Costco to prove what I thought I suspected, some chickens are barely 3 pounds, others closer to four (feel the weight difference when buying one, you'll get a bigger chicken). I've gone through four battery changes in the year, with roughly twice a week usage, using NiMH rechargeables.So I've upped my rating to 5 stars, this has been one of the best small purchases in a long time. I hope everyone else gets as good a use and longevity out of it as its shown for me.

Overall:If you're looking for a cheap scale that is accurate, includes tare, and multiple measurement units, this is the device to get.Pros:1. Accurate at all levels. I tested using several calibration weights ranging from <10grams to >1kg.2. Easy to use. Literally just two buttons.3. Accepts AAA batteries, unlike other scales which take expensive button cell batteries.4. Finish doesn't chip or wear down. As a messy chef, this thing really stands up to the damage I inflict on it.5. Cheap. At $30 this is a steal.6. Two year warranty. I haven't had to use this so I can't comment on whether it is a positive or negative.Cons:1. Buttons feel cheap/clunky and are kind of loud. Nowhere near Nintendo controller quality.2. Writing on buttons rubbed off within the first week of use. The writing should have been laser etched. dye sublimation printed, or double shot injection molded to prevent this. Considering the device is only two buttons and I've gotten use to using it, this won't really affect me.3. Batteries that come with the device are 'trial batteries'. I don't even really care if the device came with batteries or not, so not much of an issue for me.

Great little digital kitchen scale i use it a lot and it has been very reliable over the years.Recommended.

After years of use the labels wore off, but it continued to work. Great scale for it's price.

i would recommend this product to everyone who is following a diet or maintaining their weight....i use this everyday to regulate portion size with weight.
