A worthwhile investment
When I first received it, I was surprised by how small it was. I don't know what I was expecting, but read the dimensions before ordering so that the size doesn't surprise you and detract from the wonder of this toy. With that said, I understand WHY it is the size that it is - these little peg people are perfect for little hands! My 3 year old son plays with them constantly. They are always doing something, and I'm never quite sure what adventure they're going on. They go in his toy planes, toy cars, follow Bowser and Mario on quests to rescue the princess....He builds with his Tegu blocks and these people live in the houses he builds. I mean, it's crazy how much imagination they spark. The colors are vivid, the craftsmanship is off the charts. My daughter (1 yr old) mainly likes to throw them and chew on them. Which, is fine really, because they are so safe and made from such high quality materials that I don't fuss over it. She also enjoys putting not only the people, but other objects into the cups and carrying them/spilling them (which is also great, because this is a milestone and a concept that is worth celebrating.)I can't wait until she is a bit older and we can use them as a tool to teach colors, etc. It's a worthwhile investment, in my opinion. I'm actually looking at Grimm's other toys (the peg people sail boat, the little clothes for them, etc) because my kids love them so much.

They are a perfect size for little hands and my twins are both ...
I bought a lot of Grimm's toys this Christmas for my 11 month old twins. This toy is one of our absolute favorites. The peg people are not too small, if you are worried, in my opinion. With 3 other siblings my twins get a hold of much smaller items in the house all the time - you just should always watch your babies regardless of what toys they are playing with. Back to the peg people - they are not small. They are a perfect size for little hands and my twins are both fascinated with putting them in and out of their little homes. My older kids love playing with peg people and their imagination was sparkled like never before - they build houses and towns for them, they go for an adventure. I got small town blocks and 3 other large block sets as well as fairy houses and a flower. So between all of that peg people were well worth the price - I love how deliciously simple they are. They are so brightly colored that they are easy to find and put away as well. I am looking at other sets like boats that include some more of the peg people. My kids have to share now but they would love to each have more to put into their cities that they build for them. There is another set that doesn't include the little buckets but buckets are too much fun not to get though. Love Grimm's.

In constant use
Firstly, let me tell you the craftsmanship in this item is off the charts. Colors are vivid, applied precisely and are not wearing off. All items in this set are uniform in size, yet some how at the same time manage to appear and feel completely handmade. Amazingly, some of the cups have been stepped on and did not break. I am so happy to offer my toddler grandsons a wooden toy that draws on their ideas and energy and is the opposite of plastic toys engineered with computer chips designed to entertain with no interaction. The boys always want to play with this - sorting, stacking the cups, putting all the 'friends' into a school bus from their toy chest, setting up the 'friends' on every surface, using the tray to carry things etc - you get the idea. I can see using it in the future to learn different math concepts, organization and as background for wooden train sets etc. This is one toy that is well worth the money.

Unique open-ended wooden toy
Very sweet, great for toddler dramatic/ imaginative play. Exactly as pictured. Wood is so nice to handle. Pricey but style is unique. A great stand-alone which can be added to after you save up lol! Open ended play for children & other ages will join in happily. Pay attention to the stated dimensions. As others have stated, it is smaller than it appears. Still recommend!

Simple but engaging and fun
My 1.5 year old loves this toy! It's super simple and a little smaller than I was expecting, but he plays with it truly every day in a variety of ways- putting men in cups, stacking cups, hiding a man inside two cups sandwiched together, putting the wooden tray on different surfaces and spinning it or rolling it like a wheel, naming the different colors, etc. Holds up well despite being mouthed and treated not so gently. I don't really feel that this is a choking hazard, because the men are all one wooden piece (no risk of heads popping off), but I do supervise my son while playing with it bc the men are fairly narrow and do easily fit well into his mouth. Very glad I bought this despite it being pricey- we've gotten many hours of imaginative play out of it already!

Encourages a child to use his/her Imagination
These toys are cute, sturdy, colorful. They encourage a child's imagination, which is the reason for play. Through these beautiful, yet simple wooden toys, a child can safely explore the world. Play is the work of children, and no toys are better than those that inspire the use of the imagination for through the imagination, one can learn to solve problems. Bravo for a fantastic toy!

Choking Hazard
Ok so I am totally bummed I had to give this product 1 star, as I was very excited to get this for the kids in my child care center. Unfortunately, these little people figures failed the choking hazard test. I am not allowed to have any toys that fit into the mouth of my choke tester (see pic below). Anyone 3 years or younger really shouldn't play with this toy as it is small enough to get stuck in their throat, or just be sure to watch them closely as they play with the toy. The specs state it's ok for 12mo and older...but they need to amend that to state it's a choking hazard and should only be used by kids older than 3 years.
