Our blind dog LOVES this ball......
This ball is a great toy for our cocker spaniel. She went suddenly blind (SARDS) around 4 months ago and doesn't find joy in playing with the toys that she always loved before her blindness. She loves to play with this ball because she can hear it rolling around on our deck. She will play with it, chase it, bark at it, and move any obstacle between her and it when it is running. It makes us smile to know that she has a toy which stimulates her and doesn't depend on her sight to know where the ball is. The down side is that the ball isn't as durable as it needs to be. We have had to remove the rubberized outer layer because that makes it much easier for her to open when she gets it in her mouth. This dog has never torn up her toys and has avidly played with them since she was a puppy, so it isn't a problem with her play style. We would really love to see this same ball made a little sturdier and more durable, with a button of some kind inside the ball (or even remote turn off). It would also be very nice to have the ball listed in such a way that I could order multiple balls in the same order and have a way to select a variety of colors. As it is now, Amazon told me that I would have to create multiple orders in order to receive different colors. That isn't customer friendly and I am looking for a new vendor to purchase the balls from in the future.

Fun but not Durable.
Got this (specifically) for our Cane Corso puppy. He likes to have toys that "play back" with him. At first it was wonderful, rolling around on its own, he wasn't sure what to think but was intrigued! Our boxer (fully grown) really liked it too as would chase it around. I had condidered buying another but after just a few short hours I changed my mind. The Good: The outer surface is firm but has some give that is nice and didn't tear when they picked it up or anything like that. It rolls around in all directions and will change direction if met with an obstacle. It doesn't move so fast that it's un-catchable but it also isn't so slow that it's boring. They both thoroughly enjoyed it while it lasted and I would have to put it away periodically so that they would not fight over who gets to chase the ball. The Bad: The problem with the Zany Ball is that it isn't durable. It came apart within a few hours of gentle play. The button to turn it off and on is easily pressed when they would mouth it and I would have to keep turning it on. It also split apart quickly. One of the pieces inside broke off the first time it was opened. It comes apart by turning the halves of the ball in alternate directions. There is no way to keep it locked in place and once our boxer realized that there was something inside she made it her business to try to get it open every time I gave it to them to play. Our dogs aren't destructive of their toys and don't chew hard on the softer toys (relative to Nylabone/heavy duty kong). We supervise them when they get a new toy just in case, especially when there is a potential for them to eat/choke on pieces and if I hadn't been watching one of them might have eaten the plastic that broke off. I would not buy this again. I do not recommend this product.

How i improved the Zany Ball!
I bought this product despite the many stories of dogs destroying the zany ball within moments of recieving it. I was pleasantly suprised because this ball works as advertised. It's great; the look on Homer's confused face as this ball sprung to life and began to roll clumsily around was priceless.>Homer my handsome beagle who weighs about 25 lbs began to rip the chewy rubber covering off the within minutes, and had even figured out how to unscrew the ball itself exposing the batteries. But it's ok. I have THE SOLUTION!!*First, i peeled the remaining rubber skin from the ball.*Second, unscrewed the ball, and gently applied a small bead of wood glue to the threads (school glue would work as well) and reassembled the ball. If you apply the glue correctly, this should make it impossible for dogs to unscrew the ball. (Dogs dont have thumbs!)>Next i noticed that without the chewy skin layer, the on/off button sticks out further than before. This causes the ball to shut itself off when rolling around (not cool) I used utility scissors to snip off just a pinch from the end of the button and Voila!!*Finally Homer has the tow of his dreams and i have got a happier puppy!

Keeps puppy occupied for a long time!
Three stars. This kept my Westie (8 months old) occupied for around 30 minutes non stop when I first opened the package. However, he tore a chunk of the rubber off in the first minute or so. Before he had finished playing with it, it had opened once (I closed it more firmly afterwards and did not have that problem again) and he had torn the rubber off of half of the ball exposing the plastic underneath. I wish this item were not so flimsy and were better quality. I am glad I bought it however, because my puppy seems to lose interest in toys quickly, but this one seemed to keep him occupied. Just monitor you dog closely to be sure they don't swallow the plastic that is easily torn off. UPDATE: He has torn all the rubber off and still plays with the plastic ball. However, the on/off button sticks out and he is constantly turning it off accidentally. It would be a better product with sturdier rubber construction and if the on/off switch were INSIDE the ball or not sticking out where it will turn off the ball so easily. Still a fun toy but a bit of a hassle. Update: It's been over 6 months since I bought this toy and he finally destroyed the plastic. It held up well and I wish it was available to buy a new one. My puppy loves this toy..or loved it. It's in the trash now.

not good at all
TBH, not good at all. My cocker puppy broke this within 5 minutes. I think the issue is that there's a poorly recessed on/off switch and when my dog gets his teeth in it, it breaks. Having opened it, it was apparent that the switch had come apart (there being 2 very small screws which had come-out inside the unit). The good news is that I got a full refund from the supplier, so far-play to them.As an alternative (albeit talking not moving) I got this as a replacement for a mere £4 and it's excellent and still not broken (http://www.wilko.com/dog-toys/talking-babble-ball-medium/invt/0303588)

Garbage
This ball opens up aftera few min of play leaving the insides and battery exposed. Only lasted about 5 min before it opened up and got chewed. A wire came loose too. No longer usable after 5 min! DON'T BUY

Not as Zany as Imagined
A little slow for my dog. I was hoping it would be faster like other battery operated toys for dogs/kids I had in the past. Dog gets bored and picks it up to chew on it rather than chase it around.
