Mikasa Cal Glasses

I decided to order these because I am building my collection of different drinking glasses and needed a set for cocktails "on the rocks." This set arrived to me in pristine condition. I have ordered other glasses from the Mikasa brand before, and have never had an issue with breakage or shattering during shipment. The glasses were shipped in a cardboard box with cardboard dividers. I inspected each one, and as I mentioned they were all in good condition. The lines going around the lower width of the glass are actually indents, which I like because it allows for a better grip. Each glass has a heavy bottom, giving it a heavy weighted feel that gives the user the idea that it is made of a great quality and craftsmanship. The glass narrows as it goes up towards a thin rim. This is also gives it a fine, elevated feel. I would be very careful throwing these in the dishwasher because of the rim, and I will be washing them by hand. These glasses are perfect and wide enough for large craft ice when serving drinks on the rocks. Price is on the higher end but that is to be expected with the quality and name of the Mikasa brand. These would make a great gift for whiskey drinkers.

Update: 12/23/2021These glasses are so fragile that even dropping an ice cube into them from 3-4 inches above can break the glass. This is exactly what happened to me today. As I dropped three cubes into the glass a large chunk broke off and now it's in the garbage. Unless you have time to individually lower each ice cube gently into the glass by hand, these are a waste of time----------------Original ReviewI have some Waterford highball glasses that I break out for special occasions but I use these Mikasa glasses every day and they look and feel great.At 17oz, these glasses are quite large. They don't really look large but they're just tall and wide enough to hold a lot.These have a gossamer design and I get nervous trying to use these with my ice maker. I fear the side of the glass will cave in and break so I usually push in the ice maker tongue with my finger and catch the ice with the glass.I put these in the dishwasher and they're holding up great.

APPEARANCE : Beautiful. Very clear and the swirls on the bottom look classy.DURABILITY : These are crystal not glass according to the product description at this time. Glass is more durable than crystal and generally crystal is not dishwasher safe but the product description states that these ARE dishwasher safe. I put them through the dishwasher and they came out looking nice. BUT... the sides of these glasses are thin. AND the pattern on the bottom is carved deep into the glass. The bottom is thick and heavy but the sides are so thin so I am not optimistic about how long these will last.FEEL : These are nice to hold. They feel expensive. They look stylish. When I ordered these four 17 oz highball glasses from Mikasa, I didn't realize the level of quality and beauty I was in for. I was really impressed when they arrived... the crystal glass is beautifully cut and visually flawless. The Mikasa name still means something good, and I couldn't be more pleased. As with any crystal glass, it's a good bit thinner than standard glassware so it feels like you should be careful in handling and using it. While that's always a good idea with high quality premium glassware, crystal is durable to a higher degree than its feel in the hand might suggest, so I'm not worried that normal use will damage it. This is definitely a set of glasses to care for and to use with pride. It would make a lovely gift for housewarming, holidays, and marriage or partnership events!

We really like these glasses a lot. They are an excellent size to be used for an old fashioned or other cocktails. 15.5 ounces is almost 2 cups – generous size. They also feel great in the hand & look great too. The stripes along the side are cut into the glass & frosted so they are very tactile & give grip. They go thru the dishwasher with no problems.The rims are thin & really pleasant against lips. The base is heavy & feels like a classic old fashioned glass, should.They were packed really well for shipping & all arrived in perfect condition. I have ordered Mikasa wine glasses & they were also packed great – Mikasa has shipping figured out. Yes, some may get broken in shipping but these have a really good chance of arriving intact.
