Yum. Did I mention "Yum?" It's flaky, it's dense, sweet, and crumbly. A confection devoutly to be wished. It's usually made from crushed sesame seeds (tahini) and sugar. I first saw this package in a deli in Connecticut, and now I can just easily log on to Amazon and order tons. OK, that's an exaggeration...I'll order one or two at a time and try to make them last for a week or two. So simple and so delightful. AI tells me its earliest documented recipe appeared in a 13th-century Baghdad cookbook! They have not changed the recipe since, and I'm the happiest recipient. To boot, the box it's packaged in can work perfectly to house a small gift. And oh yeah...different flavors! But I prefer the original. Try it!

Wasn’t expecting the creamy texture. Had to slice into squares with a knife. With previous halva from other vendors it was a dryer brick and you could break off small chunks. I suspect the older products had less unnecessary ingredients/preservatives. Still not a bad halva if you can adapt to the creamier texture.

Syrian halvah is my benchmark. This meets all expectations.

I got the vanilla and chocolate chunk. Both tasted identical and both had the consistency of sand. Totally inedible. Do not recommend.

If you find tahini bitter, this is too. It is somehow both bitter and sweet to me at the same time and just was unfortunately unpleasant. I took a gamble since I saw mixed reviews, and wanted to try a new culinary experience, and that it was. The texture is not an issue for me, I enjoyed trying something new. It has a certain squeaky crunchiness to it, sort of like freeze dried candies or something, however, I would not consider this to be candy. I only ate a little and don't intend to have any more since the taste was just not for me. Unless you've grown up on halva, I doubt it is a taste most would enjoy. Sometimes I wonder if I just am sensitive to the bitterness in tahini. I find that odd since I love sesame seeds and Japanese gomi sauce too. I'm giving it a 3 star because I have nothing to compare it to and it seems that it is the flavor I should have expected. There is a decent amount of it, since I can't imagine eating a ton of it at a time, and sure it is pricey but it is organic, kosher, and vegan which is nice and it is an artisan specialty food.

Delicious but pricey. But I guess that means they are a special treat for sure....A small piece makes a nice little treat with an after-dinner coffee....Or crumble a little on top of ice cream....This container can last a long time if used sparingly....
