The Ha'Penny Place (Ivy Rose Series) Paperback – December 20, 2016

I am so in love with this series. After discovering the first book, I dove right into the second and third. And then I just kept re-reading them over and over again. I usually re-read my absolute favorite books once or twice a year, but only three series have me re-reading them constantly, and this is one of them. The other two are the Harry Potter books and the Singular Menace series from John Sandford and Michele Cook. I'm not saying that this series reaches a level of quality equal to the genius that is J.K. Rowling, or even the excellence of John Sandford. But there is no question that Gemma Jackson nails the combination of well-developed characters and interesting stories. I genuinely care about what happens to Ivy Murphy Ryan and her crew, and I cannot wait to see what happens next. I love the fact that I have no clue, because these stories are completely unpredictable. I cannot wait for the next one in the series, and hope it won't be too much longer before we see it.

Nine times ten I will put aside a book of this genre as too boring to read and I take a long time wading through the other ten percent.However, Gemma Jackson's Ivy Rose Series was beyond any book I've ever read in this genre and in the top percent of all the books I've read. It was exciting, not boring, had unexpected turns, not mundane, gripping scenes, not ho-hum ones. Where you wanted the bad guys to find their deserving deaths at the hand of some criminal, Gemma Jackson punished them far more severely and appropriately with a simple, unpredictable touch from a good character. Characters you thought would be evil, turned into angels, grouches and curmudgeons turned into pillars of support and strength in their community.I could not put down the Ivy Rose books, I read the entire Ivy Rose Series in five days. Gemma Jackson seized my imagination and squeezed it with love of Ivy Rose.

Having read the first two books (loved the first, was disappointed in the second), I wasn't sure how I would feel about this one. It was much better than the second book, but still not quite as good as the first one. The plot of this serial is good, the characters are interesting, and the research seems to be on point. However, there is too much filler: too much tea drinking, too many of the same ideas rehashed over and over, and too many descriptions of the same household chores (raking the ashes, putting on the tea pots, going out for the buckets of dinner, etc.) The three books could have been tightened to two books and made tighter, better paced read. There is one more book in this serial, but I will not be reading it. The story has dragged on a little too long for me.NOTE: This is not a SERIES of stand alone books. It is a SERIAL that needs to be read in order. It is actually one story divided into 4 books.

Bummer! I just read the last page of this last book in the series. The story ended in a most satisfactory manner, but I didn't want to stop reading about Ivy Rose and Jem and their friends. The characters in all the books in the series were so well developed that I feel as though I know them. This book began at a good pace and just kept picking up speed. There were some rather unexpected events and some others that the reader may have hoped to see. I can't say much more without giving spoilers. The author managed to weave together all of the various threads into an ending I think most readers will be pleased with. I highly recommend this book, and the entire series, to any reader who enjoys historical novels.

The Ivy Rose series by Gemma Jackson had me enthralled from the beginning. Ivy Murphy is such a unique and daring heroine with so much spunk and an attitude toward life that you can't help laughing and crying along with her. The characters that surround her are also so vivid and believable they add even more depth to a well written story. I loved these books and want to read more of Ivy's journey! I would recommend this to all, especially if you're a fan of historical fiction and even if you aren't. One of the best series I have read, and I read a lot. Thank you Gemma Jackson! Please write more about this wonderful and intriguing character!

This series is a must read. It holds one's attention and keeps the heart beating, waiting for the next event and turn which does occur. Amazing human nature at its finest and worst.

Ms.Emma Jackson's Ivy Rose Series is worth every second, minute, hour spent reading them. I've read all three novels in less than 48 hours. They contained every part of a good story one wishes to read. Drama, mystery, danger, vendetta, romance, humor. The characters were so well described that they cease being characters in books and become people who you want to become friends with. Ivy's life wasn't care free but she showed through kindness for her fellow man that she could share what little she had and made another person's life better. She become flesh and blood. Thank you Ms.Jackson for sharing your fictional characters of the Lane and I truly hope you shall continue the series, after all the villain should get his hard earned fall from grace.

I enjoyed reading this book mainly because it gives me a glimpse of how my grandparents lived in Ireland. Having lived the last 40 years in North America , I realize how hard past generations of my family had to work just to keep going. Ivy is a wonderful character and makes me feel proud to come from strong Irish peasant stock as my aunt once described me ! Having been to Dublin I can really imagine the story come to life on those streets. If you have Irish I your blood you will really it😀

I love the Ivy Rose Series. Has kept me entertained, always looking forward to what will happen with Ivy next!

The Ivy Rose books are very easy to read. Set in Dublin the story revolves around the life, And hardship that Ivy Rose endures to make a living mainly out of the recycling Of clothing discarded by wealthier classes and sold on at the market. The story draws you in pretty quickly Some really good characters are introduced throughout the story. Having read this first book I followed on with the other ones in the series.

Gemma Jackson has the unique ability to draw readers into the story from page 1. This book does just that!

Another amazing story in the life of Ivy Rose Murphy, she has risen from being beaten by her father to a smart business woman along with Jem, and Emmy, Anne marie and all their friends in the slum area of Dublin. I have loved every one of these books, the writter really gets you involved with all the various characters, from the boys in the Livery, the stall holders in the markets, the rich and the poor, and even the crazy priest. Highly recommend all 4 books in the series. An emotional roller coaster all the way.Jem
