APC UPS 1500VA/900W Pro UPS Battery Backup for Office Electronics, BX1500M

Overall good UPS. I have purchased several of the same models. I use them for my computers and also my home theater system (amp, TV, PS5, subwoofer), and other electronics. However, all my APC units have the same defect in the self-testing mode or during a power outage at the house. Although, the defect during self-test is infrequent. Sometimes during self-test, unexpectedly the unit's alarm starts making a racket. I look at the display panel icon which indicates the battery is completely depleted. The first time this happened, I turned off everything connected to the UPS because I thought it would suddenly cut the power to them because the UPS thinks the battery was dead. The same issue could happen if there is a power outage at my house and the UPS switches to the battery power. After, I unplugged the UPS from the wall and cycled the power button off and on, the mysterious "problem" with the "failed" battery was self-corrected. The battery icon then showed it was fully charged: it had gone from full discharge to fully charged in an instant! Now that I know about this defect, when the alarm goes off and the panel indicates the battery is dead: I mute the alarm and leave my equipment on that is connected to the UPS. (There is no a power outage at my house.) It is a false alarm. In about 24 hours, the UPS mysteriously corrects itself and behaves normally. I can disconnect it from the wall socket and my stuff works fine and the battery level shows that it is fully charged but of course starts to show the remaining time left to depletion. UPDATE: June 2026 All of my APC UPS units have stopped functioning properly after about five years of use. I tested each one by swapping batteries, and the results showed either weak batteries or failure in the UPS hardware itself. For the APC units that still appear to operate, I chose not to purchase new OEM batteries. Instead, I invested in the GOLDENMATE 1000VA/800W Lithium UPS Battery Backup and Surge Protector, and it has proven to be a clear improvement over the older sealed lead‑acid APC models. When I pull the power plug from the wall mains to simulate a power outage, the GOLDENMATE provides noticeably longer runtime and keeps my equipment powered flawlessly. The APC units—when they were still functioning correctly—could do the same, but for a shorter period. The GOLDENMATE is also roughly half the weight of the APC SLA‑based units, which makes handling and placement easier. I hope this modern Lithium Iron Phosphate battery pack UPS will last longer and be less trouble‑prone than the APC brand.

Took a little time to setup as I'm using a smaller one for my Home Lab Network and this one for my daily Computer. Using NUT (Linux), I got both securely on the network and running smoothly with full readouts on both. Came already fully charged and ready to go immediately. Works great, no problem with the beeps, solved plug spacing by using small extension connectors. Really great value for the money and solid security against power outages and fluctuations. Smaller in size than you would think too but plenty powerful! Update: In my area storm outages are a pretty common occurrence, hence this became a true necessity not merely a convenience. Since purchasing it, setting it up and running live, we've had two outages for a short period of time (each) and last night quite a few blips (power fluctuations that didn't cut anything off). My network stayed up throughout it all perfectly (I run it 24/7/365), I was actually on my computer (only run as needed) when the second incident happened and it performed to 100% satisfaction. Lights went out, my computer and network both stayed running through it and I remained connected to internet also. That was the real-world test I needed. I'm a simple home user with a pretty good setup because I rely on it for daily use and learning. As a 40+ year computer user and enthusiast I stayed with APC because of their reputation, quality and reliability as well as my experience with their products. I bought my first APC back in mid 1990's and it was equally as functional and reliable even back then. For me it's tried and true. This (recently) was my first journey into building and running a full Home Lab setup so I chose to spend a little extra money to insure it's reliability and it's already paid off. It's very satisfying that I know when I walk out the door I can come home to a guaranteed working complete system everyday. I know when I push the computer's power button I WILL be on the net!

I’m happy I didn’t pay much attention to other reviews of this product. I’ve owned several APC BackUPS devices over the years. Once, I was persuaded to buy another brand (Cyber), but it turned out to be a disaster; the manufacturer even refunded my money without asking for return of the product. This time, I did my homework thoroughly. I researched this product and others carefully to make the best decision I could possiblye make. So many reviews on Amazon made me doubt their accuracy and veracity that I started to wonder if they were written by someone trying to sell something else. I noticed a lot of complaints about the noise (like a 2840Hz buzz and constant clicking of relays). So, I decided to buy this item mainly because of my past experience with APC (Schneider Electric). In short, this UPS is my silent hero. It just sits there on my desk doing exactly what it’s supposed to do, and it’s completely silent and doesn’t make any false noises. It even passed the test of two power outages (unplugged for a few minutes) by providing perfect power to all connected devices and smoothly and quietly returning to full operation when the power was restored. I’m not trying to sell anything. I don’t need the aggravation. I’m just an 82 yo man who retired well and believes in being honest. This product has every feature that I need and none that I don't. It is an excellent value. I like it well enough that I am going to purchase a unit for each of my two grandchildren in college.

Got it and had a big storm the very next day. Power went off 6 times and my internet, router, security cameras just kept going. Great battery time for the price

I purchased this APC model in 2014 from Amazon and replaced the plug in dual battery pack after 5 years in February 2019. No problems until 29 March 2023 when the internal power supply electronics failed. In Engineering terminology, this unit had an MTBF of between 8 and 9 years after first purchased by me. This new unit is about half the physical size and weight. The battery pack slides in without the use of a plug.. This unit can interface with WIFI via your PC and the APC Software which I have no intention of using this feature. The unit is much quieter than the previous model I purchased in 2014, but when I tested by unplugging the unit, the alarm is just as loud and can be muted. Based on my experience with this model, I rated 4 out of 5 stars, I have no experience with its WIFI usage or with technical support from APC since I never had a problem following the APC installation, operating, and troubleshooting instructions in their very small manual shipped with the units and available as a pdf on their site and on Amazon. Now for my conclusion. I graduated from Drexel University with a BSEE, MSEE, and MS in Engineering Management. I am a retired Power and Power Electronics Engineer with 43 years of experience working 11 years for Siemens and the remaining 32 years for the United States Navy. My experience working for the United States Navy involved the Systems Development, Installation, Operations, and Maintenance of small and large size uninterruptible AC-DC-AC regulated and signal conditioning power sources for the US Navy and Royal HMS Navy ships. In 2014, I purchased over 100 of this APC model for the Navy offices and the US Naval Ships. Those units are just starting to fail after 8 years of service and their internal batteries were replaced after 4 years of service upon my direction to do so, failed or not. The purpose of the UPS is to protect the equipment it supplies and to allow sufficient time for the operators and technicians sufficient time to save data and perform a controlled shutdown. The purpose of UPS Battery Backed up systems is for the above purpose, not to remain operational for long lasting power outages. For long lasting power outages, a combination of a fuel operated AC Generator and UPD can provide power to provide power to electronics systems. The APC UPS systems should never be used to provide inductive loads such as refrigerators, blower fans, and air conditioners. Inductive loads can be posted only by generators or very large UPS Systems designed for linear, capacitive, and inductive load centers.costing in the tens of thousands of dollars and higher. I recommend this APC model for supplying small size power to only electronics equipment. Any technical questions should be directed to APC technical support, not the sellers. When purchasing any equipment is always best to direct technical questions to the manufacturer and not the distributors and retailers. Any power electronics engineer is also a good source on what to buy and those with a lot of experience are a good source on from whom. Again APC is a quality company who backs this mode with a 3 year warranty. My guidance is that out of a 100 units, the older model lasted for at least 8 years before having a failure, and I recommended replacement as soon as they failed. Most electronics and power electronics equipment have a life expectancy of between 5 and 10 years and dependent on the quality and manufacture design. Large manufacturers usually have the better design engineers as well as the better quality control. My first 11 years was as a destructive test engineer to determine design flaws and life expectancy.

In the last 20 years I've had 4 Cyberpower UPS's and 5 APC's. All but one of the Cyberpower units died, I think it was the charging circuits. I still have all of the APC's and they still run perfect. This unit is NOT noisy, you can't hear it at all during day-to-day operation, sure, if the power goes off there's going to be fans and more noise I suspect but that's not the normal day-to-day case. This is a nice unit, I like what they did with the batteries and connectors. Display gives you all the info you need. If there are problems with this unit I will amend my comment. Otherwise, totally happy with it.

I've had this UPS Back Up, for two weeks now, decided to check out the software download. After installing, I run the self test and it failed, a small window popped up on my monitor instructing me to contact the supplier to purchase a new $100.00 battery, or skip that and just buy another new one. I ran the test a couple more times, same results. I even tried resetting and restarting it a few times, it kept failing the test. I sent the Amazon third party supplier an email and got back some kind of automated case letter. So then I called Amazon, and they sent the supplier a second email. This time they reply requested my shipping address, so we gave it. Next, day I get a reply from them telling me their UPS website is down and they will contact me again when its working again. So, at this point I had enough and called Amazon back. This time I filed a claim for the return of my money. They told me I should see a refund within 5-7 business days. I guess the supplier will eventually get around to sending a return shipping label if the want their defective merchandise returned. After the fact, I found out this model had be discontinued, even thought they said noting in their sales ad on Amazon about that; And they're selling a new model for twice the price. Hopefully, it will be a better product. Note: This is my second review since I purchased two of these units and both now have failed the battery test. Owning two of these has revealed a pattern which anyone purchasing only one of these wouldn't notice. These unit come equipped with an USB cable which connects from the Battery Back-Up to a computer, software is then downloaded and the user is able to monitor the operation, and perform periodic battery tests. They call this software 'Power-Chute Personal Edition' During the battery test of both units I noticed there was a button for 'Replace Battery Date' I clicked on it and noticed a replacement date of 3/18/21, and 2/18/21 on the other unit. This means as of this date of writing these batteries are already 3 years old! And I've owned these units for a only a few weeks. This would mean the seller is using Amazon to sell off his old warehouse inventory of batteries which have expired dates. The proof is the age of the batteries in these brand new units when tested. This poses a problem because the batteries have an estimated life of 3 years. And both batteries have failed the battery test. In the software, the seller states, "We recommend that you change the battery in your unit at least once every 3 years." If you are one of the unfortunate ones who ended up with one of these defective units, simply contact Amazon Customer Service and explain in detail what has happened here. Even though this is a third-party seller, Amazons A-Z warranty will reimburse you in the event the seller does not refund you if you act within the 30 day warranty period. But, they may even extend the period due to the sellers deception. Finally, based on my own experience with this seller, this seller will try to get you to pay for return shipping, don't do it. If he wants his defective merchandise returned then let him ship you a free shipping label.

This is easy to install and works perfectly. Compact and has enough ports for every use I need it for.

UPDATE: After talking more with customer support, they sent a replacement unit which has none of the problems my first one did. I still need a bit of gaffer tape to cover up the lights from the buttons, but other than that, it's perfect. APC customer support was helpful and communicated clearly. The original review follows: I STRONGLY recommend you get the gift wrapping instead of going with standard shipping in the original box that shows what is inside. The unit is about half the size of a PC tower and is it ever heavy. I'm impressed with the packaging being minimal, recyclable, and yet sturdy. The battery was easy to take out and turn around the right way to get the unit working. The sockets on the back are pretty close together and I'm only able to fit three plugs in the five sockets (computer equipment tends to have big plugs). When the unit is on, the screen turns off with inactivity, but the three buttons remain illuminated. When the power went out, I couldn't figure out how to turn off the screen and it remained on using up a small amount of battery. I had some issues with the unit, but the manufacturer is quick to respond (4 min from my first question) and worked me through some troubleshooting. I've been using this brand for years and I'm always impressed with their service. But this brings us to the parts I don't like about it. I live in a semi-rual part of Canada, and our island has more trees per km of electrical line than anywhere else in North America - or so the power company tells us every storm season. 6 months of the year is storm season and I felt it would be nice to have something to protect my PC better than a regular surge protector. I had hoped the battery backup would even out the electrical current but it doesn't. Even at high sensitivity, the light plugged into the battery backup still flickers when the neighbour is welding or using heavy equipment. It also makes some noise that most people probably wouldn't hear but are obvious if I'm trying to sleep in the same room as the machine. If I turn the unit off at night, it thunks when clicking back and forth to the battery backup due to inconsistent power from the mains... even though it is turned off, my computer is getting a flash of power when the unit makes this switch. I've given up keeping it off and used some black gaffer tape on the glowing buttons. On the whole, I feel this isn't what I expected. I got it with the idea that it would even out the issues with my local power supply quality - but these same issues seem to bother the UPS just as much as they bother the computer and lights. What it does best is to be a battery backup and I'm glad I got the larger size because if the storm is strong enough to knock the power out for more than a few days, it's too cloudy to use my solar panel to charge my gadgets. This will do the trick nicely.

The flip from local hydro power to your battery backup is instantaneous, so fast that my computer did not detect the sudden local power loss, though I noticed because all my lights went out! The audiovisual industry and corporate IT departments use these same APC-UPS units to protect their gear. This is the second APC-UPS I have owned. I retired the first one purchased in 2007 after 15 years of use, because the replacement battery was 75% of the cost of buying a new one! This newest unit uses the latest technology and bonus - comes with a 3 year warranty. The massive and heavy internal sealed battery typically lasts from 3 to 5 years. At least that was my experience with my first APC-UPS. The second battery lasted 7 years! My newest APS-UPS has run flawlessly since November 2022 even though, as I said, there have been four power failures. I highly recommend this product. Cheers! Frederic in Montréal.

Only had the unit a few days and Has made itself fully worth it already. bought it because we’ve had lots of shortages this year and I didn’t want my new comp to get fried. Was curious how much I could put into it and to see how long it would last and I can say I’m impressed. I have an 850w gold power source for my pc, a ps5 and a 43” Samsung tv because it’s hooked up to both systems. today we had a full on blackout instead of the usual blip. I heard the beeping and went into to check and sure enough my comp is still running (also still mining) and my ps5 was still in standby too. Turned on the tv shut down the comp and even turned on the ps5 to get to a save point in zero dawn then shut it all down too. Tested with all of that running at the same time it would give me 8 min which is great for little blips. Ps5 and tv only was like 52 and comp and pc wasn’t bad either. The screen that shows minutes and power load is great. To the ppl who plugged it in and said it didn’t work probably didn’t read the giant yellow sticker that says shipped with battery disconnected. Super easy to setup too. Very impressed. Will probably buy again to keep wifi etc running lol

Overall great quality you would expect from an APC / SE device. Runs and works great. Minor issue with the battery brong , had fo perform a minor operatin to correct a defective prong (left front in picture). Had to pull it out and glue a small piece in place to hold it otherwise battery wouldn't charge.

Our office is in the countryside where there is no cellular service. We rely on WIFI calling since we have no land line. Combined with Starlink, this unit is a great asset. It keeps our internet service working and we can recharge our cellular phones and our laptop during a moderately extended power failure. So far, it has worked exactly as advertised. Installation is very easy and it comes with basic instructions if needed. There are more than enough outlets in the back for our needs including coax, RJ45, USB and data plugs. It has a small footprint and it maintains a proper temperature. Recommended.
