It only helps keep the red color you have. It does not die your hair.

Will this cover grey roots?

No I use this it helps me go longer between die jobs but doesn't cover gray.

Is it just shampoo like it says?

This is usually used by redheads as it will enhance the red hair. I’m not sure if it would affect any other color of hair as I know it does contain a red dye for redheads. So I don’t consider it just shampoo and conditioner. When I found this particular one, I was searching for a shampoo specifically for red hair. Hope this helps!
