Best Bye Ever
I cant believe I waited decades to have one of these. OMG! For all the woman & men out there that do a lot of cooking & have your own gardens to grow herbs/spices if you DONT have a Mortar & Pestle buy 1 NOW. For 20 yrs now I have had both an outdoor herb/spices garden plus during the winter months I grow them indoor in hydroponics. I would harvest my plants & then cut the leaves off & dice up & lay out to dry. I would crush them as best I could between my fingers. Ok it was fine but it was taking up space because I would have to use larger containers. This has greatly improved everything. It is also MUCH cheaper growing my own plants then buying the spices in the store. I still cut the leaves off & dice & air dry my plants but I now take those dried diced pieces & put in my mortar & grind them down. I can get them down to fine powder if I want or different stages of flakes, like parsley for a garnish. So I went all out. I made a 2 tier spice rack for across the back of 1 drawer that holds the regular size spice jars. I could then get 2 rows on each tier with of 16 bottles each tier (32 total) & then a single tier for the taller jars giving my 14 jars on that one. So that now took car of 46 different herbs/spices. I have saved all of my jars from store bought herbs & left the labels on to save making new labels & they are larger. Well I have completed my Herbs/spices Pantry. It took me 2 days. I went back & crushed up all of the home grown herbs. It then allowed me to clean out some of the large jars to smaller ones. I now have ALL of my herbs/spices AND all of my packaged sauces & gravies organized, labeled & grouped on 2 shelves of this pantry & I can see everything. I will say having the mortar & pestle made it much easier & now that everything has been crushed & placed so future use will only require small amounts of having to crush & grind down the plants. My thumbs & fingers were SOOOOOO sore the next day, for a wk from the crushing but it was worth it. Just for those that are wondering... The silver cap jars are all different types of Basil. There are over 150 different types. I actually have 5 more that are in the drying process. Then I will be about done with them. I will have more international spices coming & I will have a 3rd drawer to use for everything now. At the count to right now there are 98 different jars of herbs/spices in these 2 drawers. I use all of them but about 10 that just get used for very rare things I make such as pumpkin pie. :D I love to cook so I
