" ALRIGHT. I'LL TAKE YOU TO ... "
Season 22 certainly got about. Its Saturday night audience of between 7 to 9 million, journeying to Telos, Spain, The Industrial Revolution, and snow covered Necros. A carnival of vintage villains popping up at every turn, with the introduction of several classic new ones. ENTER : Sil and The Rani ! Colin Baker's original full length season - is simply his BEST. The Electric Doctor exploding onto the 80's scene, with Nicola Bryant's Peri, having to find her feet with her unpredictable vivid companion. Their friendship maturing and becoming more settled, by the time he ( nearly ) offers to take her to Blackpool. The middle season of the nine produced by underrated John Nathan Turner, Season 22 harkens back to the horror and dark tone of the Hinchcliffe years. Though not quite hitting that bench mark - what could? - Script Editor Eric Saward demonstrates that influence most spectacularly, with the story: Revelation of the Daleks. Brought chillingly to life by Director Graeme Harper. Fresh from his success on The Caves of Androzani. Harper's scene of the discovery of the GLASS DALEK, surely has to be one of the most disturbing and dramatic EVER presented under the WHO banner. Indeed, the master macabre himself - Robert Holmes - contributes to this above par run. His mouth-watering dialogue on Patrick Troughton's return, The Two Doctors, a particular lip smacking treat.Strong production values abound in this series. Set design, make-up, costume - and further inventive direction by Sarah Hellings often impress. WHAT a cliffhanger she stages for OL' SIXIE in The Mark of the Rani !! But like in ALL DR WHO, there are also elements which let the side down. The constant problem of time and money ( tied in with some sloppy writing ), presenting muddled plotting and the odd brightly lit environment. " Timelash " being the notorious weak point here ... though this new Blu-Ray collection goes some way in making it more exciting and fun. With the addition of modern effects.A solid, NO, at times, quite excellent run - Season 22 deserves much praise, and reappraisal.Once more, the trailer for this release showcases the now expected glut of must have extra features. The discs positively straining to bursting, with added WHO GOODNESS. With new interviews with Mr Sweet...A triple header Behind the Sofa ... and for such a history and planet trotting season, an appealing location trek with Colin and Nicola. The packaging alone a must! ... Limited? Yep : Don't miss out!

Almost Fantastic Season from an Underrated Doctor
Season 22 has some absolutely brilliant Who with “Mark of the Rani”, The Two Doctors” and “Revelation of the Daleks” being my personal favourites, in fact this season is only really let down by “Timelash” which is pretty awful (hence “almost” fantastic).I find Colin to be a really interesting and criminally underrated Doctor (particularly compared to some of the recent incarnations) and any chance to see Pat & Fraser teprising their roles as the second Doctor & Jamie is worth the price alone!

So much better than I remember
Maybe it's because the last few seasons of Classic Who are not generally considered to be the show's best years and have subsequently received quite a lot of negative comments, but rewatching Season 22 showed to me that it is so much better than I (mis)remembered. There are some cracking stories here (Revelation of the Daleks, Vengeance on Varos) and some okay ones (Attack of the Cybermen, Mark of the Rani), but all are very watchable, including the much-derided Time Lash. Sure, the sets and effects aren't the best, but then that's not what we watch Classic Who for. And Colin Baker's Doctor really finds his feet in this season. Some really great extras as well.

A new (and underrated) era for The Doctor!
1985 was an exciting year for Doctor Who fans. A brand new Doctor was back for his first full length season, a new, brave and exciting season. Many people believe this is the decline of Doctor Who, but to many (including this fan) this is an exciting, underrated and particularly dark season of Who. Colin excels as the 6th Doctor, and with a variety of different and intriguing stories, his Doctor really kicks off with a bang. The Daleks, Sontarans, The Master, Cybermen, The Rani, Sil, The Borad and even Faith Brown feature in this explosive season.A particular highlight for me in this season is Revelation of the Daleks and Vengeance on Varos, two particularly gruesome tales. Stories that should be applauded for telling grown up stories. It’s just a shame old Sixie didn’t have longer on TV but thank goodness for Big Finish and these new sets!Looking forward to the Behind the Sofa for this season!

BRILLIANT!!
A brilliantly underrated season from a brilliantly underrated Doctor. For my money, this is THE best season of 80s Who and Colin is THE best 80's Doctor. I truly hope his era gets reevaluated with this release.Colin is in top form here! He IS the Doctor. Vengeance on Varos and Revelation of the Daleks are two of the very best Doctor Who stories in the entire history of the show!! Yes, you read that right. They are the best of the best! Brilliant stuff!

Great, but my Vengeance on Varos Special Edition disk has coding problems
Around the hanging scene of the extended Vegenance on Varos, there is a lot of picture break up and distorted pixels
