Check how the balun gets connected to your antenna.  I have a Winegard HD7698P Platinum Series Long Range Outdoor TV Antenna that I bought less than 2 years ago.  The balun that came with it started having intermittent connection problems (the snap together connection is not reliable).  I replaced that balun with this Channel Master CM-3203 High Performance Outdoor Balun a couple months ago and the intermittent problems went away.  It took a little rewiring to adapt the antenna connector to this balun, but the results are very good.  I did not get any more channels after switching to this balun (I get about as many as possible from my location with any antenna system), but I now have a solid connection and get a lot of channels.  (I also switched the coax cable between the antenna and the splitter in the attic from RG-59 to RG-11.  The RG-11 is a little stiff and harder to work with, but the signal strength increased so much that I no longer need a pre-amp at the antenna and get a very strong signal from all possible channels.)  YMMV.

regular f-type twist-on coaxial cable connector that come on the end of most cable wire.

Only option is to make your own adapter by using a small piece of coax wire with a good female connector on one side and a stripped back other side exposing the center inside wires, then using one wire inside to connect one of the two wires to one of the wires on the CM-3203 and then the the other inside wire to the second wire of the CM-3203. Use electrical tape to individually one at a time to cover the exp  oh send wires. As far as I could find there is no adapter to connect a male coax to the 2 wires coming off the CM-3203 you have to make your own but I’ve done it several times and it works just fine by making my own with s small piece of coax wire with a good female end to connect to the male coax fitting on the antenna.

What is the insertion loss of this balun typically?

I don't know specifically,  but I can tell you my signal strength went from 83 percent  to 100 percent  on a tower that is 64 miles away.  I would highly recommended this product.
