How thick are these? Do they feel bulky?

They are thin out of the package but bunch up into several lumps while you wear them. Not only that they do not stick well to the underwear. They are terrible. Buy something good like Poise.

how do the "wings" work? How should they be placed?

They wrap on each side. A left wing and right wing. Very thick pad.
