There are a lot of ammonia (nitrite) control products available for aquariums, many of which I have tried, but I find ammo chips to be the best value for my needs. Using your filter, or a filter bag, you decide how much, how often, and where, in a simple to use medium that is easy to control and very affordable.Pros: 1) Inexpensive and very effective 2) Continuous absorbtion of nitrites, vice single treatment 3) Flexible solution, you decide how to use it 4) Treat your aquarium for months, or years, vice weeks 5) Natural absorbtion, vice adding chemicals to your tank!!Cons: 1) More work, however minor, when compared to single treatments 2) You need to reseal and store appropriatelySummary: I definitely recommend this product/approach to controlling nitrites in your aquarium. When coupled with a nitrite indicator of your choice, this product is flexible and highly effective. I change the chips when I change the aquarium filters, using a conservative measure of chips/gallons.

I have a holding tank for new fish - and the ammonia was so high. Did water changes, used Ammo Lock, the ammonia would not go down. Yes, I have a bio filter set up - but it is a new system so that takes a while. The bio filter is working - NItrites are at zero, but ammonia just wasn't going down. Found Ammo-chips, figured why not I have tried everything else to no avail. Yesterday before adding the chips to the filter the ammonia level was at 4.0 - WAY too high, I know. Well this morning - it was down to 1.0. Added an addition mesh bag with the chips in it to the outflow from the filter. Will test again later, but after weeks of using Ammo-lock and doing water changes every other day, the ammonia level is down, hoping for zero later but time will tell. SO happy to have found this - wish I had found it sooner!

My dad has been lookong for this brand and now I found it for a good price! He has cichlids and I have a tropical freshwater community tank. Both our fish are very healthy, and I think this helps.

Like the title reads: They are a good quality brand. However, they're are some down falls. I found a little too much power in the bottom of the carton. Also, I would love to have pellets! They make carbon pellets.. So why not Ammo Pellets!?!!?

Bought this a few weeks ago and my Ammonia level was between 4-6. VERY high. Did I 50% water change BEFORE I got the product and it was still around 4. My Ammonia level on Day 4 was ZERO. Yes ZERO! HIGHLY recommend this. It does actually REMOVE ammonia

I bought this for my 3 tanks. I measured out how much was needed for the size of the tank. I put it loosely in a knee high pantyhose and tied a knot. I put it in all the tanks, and when I took a reading of the water the ammonia levels did not change. You also have to regenerate the chips every 5 days in salt which is an extra step I don't know if it helps.

Had a extended power outage (4 days) after hurricane Isaac. Saved a clownfish in a small 5 gallon tank with battery aeration. My 100 gallon reef tank stunk after and had to wash rocks and sand with fresh water. Filled with saltwater and put the clown back in and ammonia crept up to a slight but unacceptable level. The chips worked fine. Within a day my ammonia and nitrite levels dropped to zero. Added some nitrifying bacteria and tank was ready for fish and corals in a week.

This stuff saved my tank my 10g tank has had awful ammonia levels forever, and I tried it all to fix it. I tried live bacteria, ammo-lock and many other things. and none of it worked but this stuff did! my ammonia levels have never been better!
