It does what’s its intended for, this is not a metal finder but rather to tell if tour object you found is metallic or not. Look at it this way, It you found an item and your not sure if it’s metallic, then hover it over this unit, and it will tell you. Which is awesome I’m my opinion! Do not expect this to find loot underground, so don’t buy this is your looking for gold. As from my tests, it detects Steel, Iron, Brass, Copper, Zinc, Tin, Antimony, Gold, Aluminum.

This metal detector is very good for an economy handheld model. You can tell when you hold it that it's built solid, and the original batteries still work. I've had it for about 4 years and I keep it in the trunk of my car so it gets knocked around quite a lot but it doesn't have a scratch yet. The entire ring opening detects metal the whole way around and covers a nice sized area. The only negative thing I can say about it is that the detection distance is annoyingly short at about 1/2". I'd say it's better for security use, but I've successfully used it to find nails in the driveway so that pretty much makes it worth it right there.

OK so I work with reclaimed wood and hate hitting nails with my saw so I was looking for a reasonably priced metal detector and came across this one... did not like the battery that came with it, (no charge left) so I put in my own and turned it on, found a hidden nail in some reclaimed Oak that I didn't see that was right in my cut area, only problem(?) I had was I used it to close to a metal cart and it kept beeping, very sensitive. I would recommend this.

The GC-101H metal detector is as described size wise and not to bad for the price. It did come with a battery although the website said “not included”, be sure to remove it and peel off the plastic or your wand will not work. The sensitivity level is fair at best, certainly no High as indicated, you literally need to be 1-2 inches away before the sensor goes off making it a bit difficult to really detect anything further away than that which is disappointing. I bought this for my grandchildren to play with, we live on the beach but it’s not likely they will find anything buried in the sand so my son took a couple fists full of change and threw the coins in my yard so they could have a treasure hunt. Since they are only 3 and 5 they had no problem getting the detector close to the ground but as an adult not so easy. If you want to do any grown up detecting you probably should look for a stronger product. OK for the price.

It is very easy to use no programming, just install the 9 volt battery and it's ready to use. I use it to detect for metal in wood I reclaim ,before I run it through the planner to resurface the wood. It also doesn't scan big and wide . That way it's not picking up metal outside of the wood it pin points pretty good I really like it. I would buy it again in a heart beat .

This hardly worked. Not for anything small enough to be of use to me. I wanted to be able to find nails and screws in wood and immediate area. It wouldn't detect anything under a box of nails. It has a "fine tuning" function hidden under a sticker, but the directions don't match the screw head type. I spent an hour trying to machine file my own screwdriver to make it work. It didn't. I went through a set of small machine screwdrivers, and none of them worked. Worthless for anything other than pretending to be "security".

I bought this to work as a stud finder in the wall and also to find items dropped in the grass. Haven't been able to find any items on the ground yet as it only seems to have about a 1-2 inch detection range and it turned out to not be a very practical use, but it does very well at finding wall studs and determining some types of metal contents in items.

good little unit, does what it's supposed to not like the fancy expensive ones with all the settings than never seem to work, made a handle outta a broom stick and makes it easy to stand and walk around with it close to the ground, please with tthe purchase

Needed to be calibrated. Had to open it up and adjust pot so it did not go off without metal detection. Works great now.

Decided to try this detector after seeing a more expensive one used in a youtube video. Just tried it on a pallet board and was amazed that it detected a a tiny piece of metal embedded a 1/4 inch under the wood surface. This piece of metal was not visible to the naked eye. Dug it out with a chisel and saved my brand new thickness planer blades. Will be using this before planing all my used lumber from now on. Has the solid feel of a quality made product. Highly recommend to anyone using recycled wood.

This really looks and works like the "wand" detector they show you on border customs services. Auto calibrate, light, sound and vibration indicators. Even a child can figure how to use it without instructions. Me, I use it to locate metal (nails and cramps) in lumber to prevent damage to my blades. For the price, you can't afford to not buy one. Pays for itself after just one detection.
